4. MANAGERIAL EXPERIENCES August 2017 – August 2018

CEO of VIVE – The Danish Center for Social Science Research VIVE is a merger of SFI – The Danish National Centre for Social Research and KORA – the Danish Institute for Local and Regional Government Research. VIVE is an independent applied research center working within all major welfare fields. VIVE has around 200 employees specialized in economics, sociology, political science, anthropology and psychology. I was responsible for the merger process and head of the management team with 11 leaders.

October 2015 – July 2017

CEO of KORA, the Danish Institute for Local and Regional Government Research KORA was an independent research institution with approximately 115 employees and 45 student assistants. KORA’s mission was to promote better quality development, efficiency and management of the public sector. I was responsible for the development and execution of the KORA’s long-term strategy aligned with the national act for KORA and the efficiency of the day-to-day management.

August 2014 – Sept. 2015

Head of Department of Business and Economics (DBE), SDU I was responsible for the strategic development of the department with around 80 employees. The management team at the department consisted of five heads of research groups, one head of studies, and the head of the secretariat. I was responsible for overall personnel management, recruitment, allocation of department funding and monitoring of research performance. I introduced and implemented new department policies for promotion and a new strategy for the department. I was strongly involved in the strategic development at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences in collaborations with other heads of departments.

January 2012 – July 2014

Director of COHERE – Centre of Health Economics Research, SDU COHERE was the result of a merger of the Health Economics Research Unit and DBE. I was responsible, together with the former head of DBE, for initiating and executing the merger. COHERE had around 50 researchers from the two hosting departments; DBE and Institute of Public Health. I was responsible for initiating and implementing a new strategy, implementing a new organizational structure for COHERE with program leaders. I was, as personnel manager, responsible for around 30 researchers. I initiated a number of activities to promote COHERE nationally and internationally including seminars, debate conferences, newsletters, PhD workshops, recruitment of researchers etc. We established an applied research unit called ‘COHERE Analyses’ in 2013 performing analyses on external requests.

June 2010 – December 2011

Head of research unit, The Health Economics Research Unit, SDU The research unit was part of Institute of Public Health with employees from the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The unit had around 25 researchers including seven full professors. The unit focused on health economics and health services research. The unit had many cross-disciplinary projects with researchers

from health and social sciences. I was responsible for the overall research management and teaching allocation for around 45 courses for 15 educational programs. The responsibility also included recruitment, coordination of external funding, contracts with external collaborations, internal and external communication, homepages etc.

March 2008 – September 2009

Head of Department of Research and HTA, Odense University Hospital (OUH) The unit had eight employees and two associated units (with >15 employees in the two units). The department was responsible for implementation of OUH’s research strategy and monitoring of research output in clinical departments. The unit was also responsible for implementation of the research and data network called ‘Odense Patient data Explorative Network’ (OPEN). Researchers from the department supported OUH and other hospitals in Region Southern Denmark implementing Health Technology Assessment (HTA) for decision-making. The unit was also involved in tech transfer agreements, projects on user driven innovation and clinical quality databases.
