August 08, 2012I am involved in active research for the last forty years in the synthesis of novel bioactive Organophosphorus compounds. One hundred sixteen papers have been published and twenty two research degrees (Ph.D. and M.Phil) have been awarded under my guidance.

Even after my superannuation on June 30, 2000, I am continuing my research work and successfully completed two major UGC projects sponsored by UGC -Govt of India. Currently I am engaged as co-principal investigator for on CSIR project, and one BRNS of BARC, Mumbai and one DRDO project for Minster of Defiance, Government of India.

A research group in Organophosphorus Chemistry consisting of two faculty members (Dr. C.S. Reddy and Dr. C.N. Raju) and twenty research scholars has been organized. Active research is going on at present and I am continuously extending advisory support and overseeing their work. Ten of the Ph.Ds students are currently working as Post-doctoral Research Fellows in various Countries United States of America, Canada, Germany, Portugal, Japan and South Korea. One of them V. Krishna Reddy is working as JSPS Fellow at Kyoto University, Japan. Another person Dr. P. Vasugovardhan Reddy is working as Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, Germany.

Presently I am working to develop some new anti-tumor anti-Osteoporosis and also developing eco-friendly Organophosphorus Compounds and organophosphorus Agrochemicals .that act both as pesticides when admonished and subsequently degraded into organophosphorus residues that act as plant merits.

Thanking you

Sincerely Yours

(C. DEVENDRANATH REDDY)

15.BIOLOGICAL STUDIESa.Some of the compounds synthesized so far are found to be highly toxic to insects. With little more modification on their structure, they could be potential and environment friendly pesticides.

b.It is found that Thiophosphoryl compounds are less toxic than phosphoryl compounds.

Bulky sbstituents at the P-atom decreases toxicity and Presence of chlorine as substituent enhances the toxicity.

c.Some of the compounds exhibited good fungicidal properties

d.National Instittue of Cancer, USA is evaluating anticancer properties for some compounds (mustard derivatives 12 and 13) which are selected by computer screening.

e.Tuberculosis Antimicrobial Acquisition and Coordinating Facility (TAACF), Colorado State University of USA identified us as potential supplier of interesting chemical compounds likely to possess promising biological activity.

f.E.I. Dupont, Agricultural Products Division, USA has selected our compounds and is currently evaluating their biological properties as pesticides and drugs.
