Perform- ing on soprano, alto, tenor, and bass trombones, while dressed in Renaissance at- tire, the group will end with some selections you will tap your feet to! For our second show of the season, we are proud to welcome jazz trumpeter and vocalist Christine Fawson and her Trio to SHS. Christine Fawson is a trumpet player and vocalist. Her debut CD Happy Talk, featuring the arrangements of Phil Wilson received great reviews in Down Beat, Cadence Magazine and Singer Magazine. Since 2002, Christine has been a member of the vocal jazz group, Syncopation. e group has recorded three CDs; A New Dance, Of Blue and Wonderful You which have been widely success- ful both in the United States and Japan. Syncopation has been featured at festi- vals throughout the Unit- ed States and Japan. e group was featured with the Boston Pops Orchestra at A Year In Morocco AMHERST – In the third program of the February adult series, Faraway Plac- es, at the Amherst Town Li- brary, photojournalist and world traveler Barry Pell presents, “A Year in Moroc- co” on Tuesday, February 18 at 7 p.m. Mr. Pell recently re- turned from one year teach- ing English in Casablanca and traveling throughout Morocco. In this presenta- tion, he will take you on a journey through the coun- try’s walled cities and their ancient markets, across the rugged Atlas Mountains with traditional Berber vil- lages, and into the desolate and dune-covered Sahara Desert. e program, ac- companied by Mr. Pell’s Amherst Town Library 3rd Annual Hope for Gus Valentine’s Day Ball February 15, 2014 to Raise Money for Research of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy AMHERST – On Sat- urday, February 15, at 7:30p.m., the Hope For Gus Foundation will be hosting a semi formal event which will take place at the Radis- son Ballroom in Manches- ter, New Hampshire. e event is open to the public and will be a night of music, dancing, food and inspira- tion. 100% of its profit will go directly to the research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Tonya and Steve Dreher, a teacher at Souhegan High School, and residents of Pe- terborough, NH, are the Co-founders of the Hope For Gus Foundation. ey began this foundation in 2010 after their 4 year-old son, Gus was diagnosed with DMD. It is a terminal muscle-wasting disease that currently has no cure or ef- fective treatment, but the Zoë Garvey recently re- ceived an award in an essay competition organized by the Council for Youths with Chronic Conditions. Mid- dle school students were asked to submit an essay describing someone with a chronic health condition who inspired them. Zoë wrote about her sister Rosie who has cystic fibrosis. Senator Jeff Woodburn presented her with a plaque and a savings bond at the award ceremony at AMS. All candidates, opposed or unopposed, who have filed seeking to be elected to an Amherst town or school position are invited. The only contested posi- tion is Supervisor of the Checklist but it was decided to hold the event as educational so the voter can still learn about the candidates and their positions. The event can be seen live on ACTV20, the Am- herst Community Access Television station, or on your computer at http://pegstream.amherstnh.tv. It will be rerun at various times on ACTV20 until Elec- tion Day on March 11. It can also be viewed on your computer on demand at http://amherstnh.pegcen- tral.com, usually by the next day. SHS Fundraising Basketball Game On Friday, February 14 the Souhegan girls and boys basketball teams will hold a special Tony game to raise money for the Tony Barksdale scholarship fund. Games start at 5 and 6:30 p.m. at the Souhe- gan High School gymnasium. We need as many people to come as possible to help this great cause! SHS Hosts Open Climbing Wall Nights Come climb on Souhegan High School’s indoor rock climbing wall! Mondays from 6:30-8:30, Febru- ary 3rd – March 3rd, open climbing will be available for families and community members. Along with challenge and fun, safety will be a major focus with proper equipment use and belay technique a key part of the experience. Climbers will have the opportunity to challenge themselves to reach new heights or just play and have fun – while supporting others as they do so. All proceeds will benefit Souhegan’s 2014 Desert Rock Climbing Wintersession Course for sophomores. Ages 5 and up. $5.00 per person/$20.00 maxi- mum per family. All equipment will be supplied. “My Son Pinocchio, Jr.” Marks 10th Year Anniversary For the past 10 years, the AMS Theater Club has brought the community such great productions as “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “High School Musical” and “Dear Edwina.” “My Son Pinocchio, Jr.” is a re-telling of the classic tale from Geppetto’s perspective. The tale entertains us while exploring the universal theme of children and parenthood. You will be delighted with the music set, costumes, energy, and fun! AMHERST - The Souhe-gan High School Music De-partment will host the sec-ond Jazz Night of the year on Friday, February 14th at 7:00pm. This year marks the 12th anniversary of the Jazz Night series of con-certs hosted at SHS. For our second show of the season, we are proud to welcome jazz trumpeter and vocalist Christine Fawson and her Trio to SHS.

2nd Annual Amherst Candidates Night Hosted by AAUW
