a rear-facing child seat reduces the risk of injury in a head-on collision by more than 80 % when compared to a conventional forward-facing seat with harness system.* or to put it another way: guardian angels fly faster backwards.

statistically, the risk of injury in ece group i forward-facing child seats with a conventional harness system (9-18 kg, approx. 9 months to 4 years) is significantly higher compared to group 0+ rear-facing baby seats (0-13 kg, 0 - approx. 18 months), as the child’s head is still bigger and heavier in relation to the body. a baby’s head is equal to 25 % of its overall body weight and the neck muscles and spine are still not fully developed. in a forward-facing car seat with a conventional five-point harness system, the shoulders of the child are held back in a head-on collision, while the head is flung forward with enormous force. as a result, the cervical vertebrae can be stretched by up to 5 cm – with dramatic

consequences for the child; the spinal chord can become disjointed when stretched for less than 1 cm. head, shoulders and internal organs are also put under a severe strain, which can lead to dangerous injuries. in rear-facing car seats, the force of an impact is distributed evenly over a large area, significantly reducing the strain on the neck, shoulders, head and internal organs. The child seat works like a protective shield and protects the sensitive head and neck area. consequently, a rear-facing child seat reduces the risk of injury in a head-on collision by more than 80% when compared to a conventional forward-facing seat with harness system.*

whY rear-facing?

statistics from countries with mostly rear-facing group i child seats (e.g. sweden) show that the risk of injury in group i seats compared to seats in group 0+ remains stable. in markets with mainly forward-facing group i seats with harness systems (e.g. UK, germany) the risk of injury in comparison to group 0+

seats rises dramatically. doctors, accident researchers, as well as consumer and health organisations such as which?, german independent consumer-testing organisation stiftung warentest, and germany's biggest motoring club, the adac therefore recommend that children remain in rear-facing child seats for as long as possible.

in most countries car accidents are the main cause of death among children over the age of one. around 25 % of small children involved

in head-on collisions, secured in a forward-facing child restraint system, suffer serious to fatal injuries.

depending on their shape and size, older children may have insufficient legroom when sitting backwards. in this case, the cYbeX sirona can also be used as a forward-facing seat – from 9-18 kg (approx. 9 months - 4 years). in the forward-facing position, the child is protected by an adjustable safety cushion. This system works like an inflated airbag, which absorbs the energy of impact over its entire area. compared to a conventional 5-point harness, the strain on the neck is significantly reduced. what’s more, in case of an accident, the cushion’s new active response Technology (a.r.T.) ensures that the child is intuitively secured within the safety zone of the seat (patent pending). Thanks to the new integrated fastening system, it is also unnecessary to fasten the safety cushion with the car seatbelt (patent pending).

TeLescopic Linear side-impacT proTecTion

whether rear- or forward-facing, the sirona’s adjustable linear side-impact protection system (L.s.p.) increases the level of safety in case of a side-impact collision (patent pending). The L.s.p system can be individually adjusted to the position of the seat and the type of vehicle and absorbs the force of a side-impact collision in combination with the head and shoulder protectors.

a clever 360° rotation mechanism makes it easy to change between the forward- and rear-facing positions – without having to take the seat right out. getting in and out is also easy as the seat can be turned to the side with one simple click.

seaT-To-chassis TechnoLogY

The cYbeX sirona is secured using the car’s isofiX system and requires no further fastening. a prop at the front helps to absorb the force of impact in case of a head-on collision and provides additional stability.

The innovative seat-to-chassis technology creates a direct link between the seat and the chassis. in case of an accident, the force of impact is transferred straight to the chassis, which simultaneously activates the safety features of the car and the seat and thereby initiates the process of distributing the force at the earliest possible stage of an accident.

QUaLiTY TesTed

all fabrics used by cYbeX are stringently tested for toxic substances by independent test institutes. They are colourfast, extremely

durable, and light- and temperature-resistant. The covers can be easily removed and washed with mild detergent on a gentle cycle at 30° c.
