Billingham & WolvistonA circular ride to Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park, via road,woodland and off-road tracks, returning via Wolviston Village.

Start: Billingham Forum Car Park Route distance: 7 miles/11.2 Km – 1 hour !! - Caution, no crossing point

From Billingham Forum car park, jointhe cycle path crossing over theCauseway. !!

Turn right and then 1st left downMelrose Ave.

Continue to the end of Melrose Ave,turning right onto Rievaulx Ave.

At the end of Rievaulx Ave turn rightonto Marsh House Ave and then 1stleft onto Low Grange Ave. !Caution– cross at the designatedpedestrian crossing points!

Go past the school and turn rightonto Hollinside Rd.

Take the 2nd right down Redworth Rdand then 2nd left down Gilside Rd.

Look for the cycle track (NCN14) onyour left just after the first row ofhouses. The track runs along thehedge line and then bends off to theleft to follow the train line. Continuealong the track until you reachWolviston Back Lane.

Cross Wolviston Back Lane andcontinue along a tarmaced track. !!

Follow a short twisty single tracksection on your right shortly after aleft bend in the road bringing youout at the A1185. Cross over andtake the path to the left headingparallel with the road. !!

At the end, cross over again andrejoin the track on the other side. !!

Cross over Low Grange Ave and joinWolviston Back Lane directlyopposite.

Carry on, crossing over Marsh HouseAve. !!

Continue along the cycleway directlyopposite, crossing Longfellow Rdand eventually reaching a largeroundabout.

Dismount here and follow the patharound to the left, carefully crossingthe first two roads before joining thepath to meet West Hartlepool Rd.

Continue on, turning left onto theHigh St at the end. Next take the 3rdright onto Wynyard Rd.

Take 2nd left onto Mill Lane. Crossover Sandy Lane W and ontoWolviston Mill Lane. !!

Take the 3rd right turn onto SkripkaDrive.

Turn right into Kielder Close andfollow path at the end to cross overLutton Crescent and onto LangtonAve.

Turn right at the end of LangtonAve and continue along Sandy Lanethrough the golf course until youreach Wolviston Rd.

Cross over Wolviston Rd and ontoMalvern Rd. !Caution –cross at thedesignated pedestrian crossingpoint to the left of Sandy Lane!

Carry on along Malvern Rd crossingPentland Ave and eventually turnleft up Grampian Rd to meetKingsway.

Turn right down Kingsway (!!) andthen first left onto Moreland Aveleading back to Billingham Forum.

Hardwick, Roseworth & Thorpe ThewlesA great circular ride that can be extended to include the delights of WynyardWoodland Park.

Start: Redhill Road Shops Route distance: 5.4 miles/8.7 Km – ¾ hour Longer route distance: 6.8 miles/10.8 Km – ¾ hour

From the Redhill shops car park turnleft down Redhill Rd towardsRagpath Ln. Turn left and followRagpath Ln until you reach JunctionRd. Join the cycleway to the left justbefore the junction

Follow cycleway to crossing point;cross over and follow the path toyour right, turning in to BlakestonLn.

Continue along Blakestone Ln untilyou reach the junction with Wynyard Rd.

From here you can either take a righthand turn up Wynyard Rd and ontoWynyard Woodland Park, or followround to the left where the roadturns into Durham Rd and eventuallygoes under an underpass.

After the underpass follow the roadaround to the right and take the firstleft turning you come too along atrack down the side of a field,signed ‘NCN1’.

At the end of the track the trail loopsoff to your right and then doublesback to your left after a tight bend.NOTE: Restrictive access controls onthis section of the route (betweenpoints 7 & 8) will make access forchild trailers and tandems difficult.

Now continue straight ahead onNCN1 eventually crossing overHarrowgate Ln. !Caution - nocrossing point!

After Harrowgate Ln take the secondcycle path exit off to your leftleading in between two rows ofterraced houses and onto Tithe Barn Rd.

Follow Tithe Barn Rd around to theright and continue along taking yourthird right into Cornforth Cls.

Now take the second left intoCowpen Crsc, continue along untilthe end and join the cycle path toyour right.

Continue along cycle path until youreach a mini roundabout and take aright down Ketton Rd, rejoining thecycle path to your right at the end ofthe road.

Follow the path to a crossing pointover Durham Rd. Cross over andturn right onto Rothwell Crsc.

Follow the road around taking aright onto Ruislip Rd and then a leftonto Ragpath Ln. Finally followRagpath Ln back to Redhill Rdshops.

A great family ride. Taking you on a short loop around Ingleby Barwick. You couldeven end the ride with a visit to the new Romano Play Park!

Start: Myton House Pub, Ingleby Way Route distance: 4 miles/6.4 Km – 35 minutes

From the Myton House Pub car parkturn right onto the cycle pathadjacent to Barwick Way, travellingaway from Ingleby Road.

Turn left at the junction and go throughthe Barwick Lane underpass, followthe cycle path turning right ontoBranklyn Gardens until the junctionwith Felbrigg Lane. Cross FelbriggLane and follow cycle path to the left.

At the junction with Haresfield Wayturn left and carry on through theIngleby Way underpass, then bearright along Ingleby Way crossingover Lowfields Avenue andcontinuing until Thornaby Road.

Turn left at the roundabout andfollow the cycle path parallel toThornaby Road until you reach thepedestrian crossing immediatelyafter Cunningham Drive.

Turn left along a footpath at the endof the houses and just before thesports fields to join MiddletonAvenue. Carry on along MiddletonAvenue for about 450m and turnleft into Burniston Drive.

Carry on to the end of BurnistonDrive and turn left onto LocktonCrescent. At the end of LocktonCrescent, turn left again ontoBassleton Lane and follow down tothe dead end where you should seea cycle path to your right.

Follow the cycle path to the end andthen turn left onto the cycle pathadjacent to Queen Elizabeth Way.Follow the path, crossing LowfieldsAvenue and eventually turning rightthrough the underpass. Turn left andcontinue along until you reach thejunction with Blair Avenue. Crossstraight over.

When you reach a cross roads in thecycle path, turn left passing behindTesco’s supermarket and then leftagain just before the underpass toreturn to Myton House Pub car park.

Another great family ride, completely off road and all on cycle paths. There are also three crossings of the Tees without even getting your feet wet!

Start: Tees Barrage car park (North side) Route distance: 6.1 miles/9.8 Km – 50min - 1 hour

Portrack Loop

From the Barrage car park cross theBarrage to the south side of the Teesand turn right to follow the cyclepath along to Infinity Bridge.

Turn up the ramp leading onto thebridge and cross over to the Northside turning right onto the cyclepath leading to Portrack Lane.

Turn right onto the cycle pathalongside Portrack Lane and crossover at the cycle crossing point justbefore Asda.

Follow the cycle path along HolmeHouse Road bearing left at thebottom to go past the prison.Towards the end of the prison, lookout for the red cycle path on the lefthand side and follow it.

Eventually you will come to somelarge stones in the middle of thepath, take the first rough track to theright after these (signposted 14).Follow the track round until youreach a tarmaced cycle path and turnright heading alongside the A19.

At the roundabout, cross over at thecycle crossing point towardsHaverton Hill and then crossHaverton Hill road to follow thecycle path towards Newport Bridge.

Just before Newport Bridge, take theleft hand cycle path leading backround and under the bridge. Followthe cycle path alongside the riverback to the Barrage.

Starting and finishing at Ropner Park, exploreWest Stockton on quiet roads and cycleways

Start: Ropner Park, Marlborough Road Route distance: 5.4 miles/8.6 Km – ¾ hour

West Stockton Wanderer

From Ropner Park, turn left downMarlborough Rd (heading North)until you reach Oxbridge Lane.

Cross over Oxbridge Lane and ontoSheraton St. !Caution - no crossingpoint!

Continue down Sheraton St andonto Grangefield Rd eventuallyturning right into Gray’s Rd just aftera bridge over the beck.

Continue along Gray’s Rd turningleft onto Bishopton Rd and then firstright onto Patterdale Ave - !Caution- no crossing point!

Continue along and turn right ontoCommondale Ave. At the end turnright again and then cross overBishopton Ave - !Caution - nocrossing point!

Take the path leading throughNewham Grange Park and emergingout at Darlington Lane.

Turn left down Darlington Lane andthen first right onto Humbledon Rd.

Bear right, and follow the roadaround to the bottom of HamsterleyRd and bear left to join thecycleway.

Continue along the cycleway,eventually reaching a row ofterraced houses. Follow the path tothe right & then turn left ontoCowpen Crsc. Take the next rightonto Cornforth Close and then thenext left onto Tithe Barn Rd.

Keep on Tithe Barn Rd past the bendat the bottom and turn left(signposted NCN1). Turn left ontothe cycleway, cross Darlington Laneand continue on to another crossingon Elm Tree Ave. NOTE: Restrictiveaccess controls on this section of theroute (between points 10 & 12) willmake access for child trailers andtandems difficult.

Cross over onto Moston Rd and pickup cycleway on the left crossingover Bishopton Rd West (!Caution -no crossing point!) and carryingalong the cycleway.

Keep going straight ahead on thecycle path until you reach DarlingtonRd. Cross over (!Caution - nocrossing point!) and go through thesmall fenced walkway leading ontoSpringfield Ave.

At the end of Spring Ave bear leftonto Linden Ave and continue onuntil Hartburn Lane. Cross over(!Caution - no crossing point!) andfollow Marlborough Rd back to thestart point

A gentle ride along the banks of the Tees, crossing bridges – old and new.

Start: Tees Barrage Longer route distance: 5 miles/8.2 Km – 45 minutes Shorter route distance: 4.1 miles/6.6 Km – 35 minutes

Riverside Rambler

From the Tees Barrage car park(North side) drop down to theBarrage and follow the cycle pathheading east along the river towardsNewport Bridge.

Carry along the cycle path goingunder the A19 until you reachNewport Bridge.

Go under Newport Bridge andfollow the path to the left leading toNewport Bridge Approach Road.Bear left and cross the Bridge.

Turn left down large cycle path rampon the South shore before the railwaylines. At the bottom of the ramp turnright and head back in the directionof Stockton. Follow the cycle pathpast the Barrage to Infinity Bridge.

For the shorter route. Cross InfinityBridge and turn left onto the lightcoloured cycle path leading backdown to the river. At the bottom,turn left again and follow path backin the direction of the Barrage.Follow the cycle path off to the leftjust before the boat club house toreturn to the car park.

For the longer route. Cross InfinityBridge and continue on until youmeet the road. Then turn left andimmediately right to follow cyclepath up Dugdale Street. Keep on thepath until Portrack Lane and bearright. Cross over Ross Road andcontinue on to Marston Roadfollowing the path to the right againpast Asda.

Take the next right after theentrance to Asda and follow theroad until you get to the cycle pathon the left. Follow the cycle path tothe back of the Talpore Pub and turnright onto White Water Way untilyou reach the junction with TeesBarrage Way.

Turn left and then immediately rightonto the cycle path leading back tothe Barrage.

Central Stockton LoopThis is a great ride to find out just how easy it is to get around by bike in Stockton.Commuting from anywhere on this route will always save time over taking the car!

Start: Bishop Street Car Park, Central Stockton Route distance: 7.8 miles/12.5 Km – 1 hour

From the Bishop St car park travelEast past Thistle Green and onto thecycleway leading to the crossing overMaritime Rd. Follow the cyclewayalong North Shore Rd. Cross the nexttwo crossings and keep going pastInfinity Bridge until you reachPortrack Ln.

Follow the cycleway to the rightalongside Portrack Ln until you reachthe cycle and pedestrian crossingpoint just before Asda.

Cross over Portrack Ln, bear right andthen first left down Holme HouseRoad. The cycleway eventually goesoff to the left and runs parallel to theprison.

Carry on straight ahead and followthe cycle path under twounderpasses following the signs forNCN Route 1. Eventually route 1turns to the right alongside therailway line; follow this, crossingtwo roads until you reach RomseyRd.

At the end of Romsey Rd turn leftonto Ragpath Ln and then right ontoRuislip Place (you may wish to walkthis small section along Ragpath Ln).

Bear left onto Rothwell Crsc andcarry on until you see a cycleway(Route 1) on your left. Follow this,crossing Durham Rd and follow tothe right. At the end of the path turnleft down Ketton Rd and straightover the roundabout to rejoin thecycleway.

When you reach a row of terracedhouses, follow the path to the right,then turn left onto Cowpen Crsc.Take the next right onto CornforthCls and then the next left onto TitheBarn Rd.

After the bend at the bottom turnleft (Route 1) & left again onto thecycleway, cross Darlington Lane andcontinue on to another crossing onElm Tree Ave.

Cross over onto Moston Rd and pickup cycleway on the left. Turn left atthe first designated cycleway left turnyou come to, and follow until youreach Oxbridge Ave. Cross straightover onto Grangefield Rd and keepgoing past the cemetery until youreach Tynedale St which forks off tothe left on a bend in the road.

At the end of Tynedale St join thecycleway leading through the railwayunderpass and onto Dovecote St.Continue along until you reach theHigh St turning left and then 1st rightonto Silver St. Follow Silver St toreturn to Bishop St.
