D AlençonFine Arts Museum and Lace Museum (Alençon lace is listed UNESCO World Heritage). Birthplace of Saint Teresa, Notre-Dame Basilica (15th century nave)

As you leave Mortagne-au-Perche, go through Saint-Langis-lès-Mortagne. Further on, from the “Aire des Carreaux” (at an altitude of 160 metres), you will reach an altitude of 216 metres. The scenery is a landscape of transition, an area of land set between the Perche’s rolling hills and the Alençon countryside, where traditional farmlands and vast agricultural fields blend.

The route crosses the river Sarthe near the mill of Ormois and does so many more times across the Natura 2000 site “High Valley of the Sarthe”. The view widens when approaching Mêle-sur-Sarthe.

The route runs along many groups of poplar trees, in anticipation of the nearby ponds and wetlands where wildlife abounds.

In Mêle-sur-Sarthe, cross a built-up area near the outdoor leisure centre to reach fields, then on towards the forest of Bourse.

You move from the forest to open fields onto the rolling plains of the major town of Alençon.
