Mae gofyn bod yna ddrws agored i’r diwydiant i bobl o gefndiroedd amrywiol, ac mae angen rhoi cyfle i’r rhai sydd yn y diwydiant ar hyn o bryd i uwchraddio eu sgiliau’n gyson.

Mae Cyfle wedi bod yn weithgar ym mhob un o’r meysydd hyn, gan dderbyn clod uchel a chyson am safon yr hyfforddiant mae’n ei ddarparu a’i drefnu. Yn bwysicach na dim, mae yna gydnabyddiaeth fod hyfforddiant Cyfle yn berthnasol iawn i’r byd gwaith a bod safon yr hyfforddeion sy’n dilyn y cyrsiau yn gyson uchel. Unwaith eto, mae’n braf nodi’r canran uchel o’r rhai fu ar gyrsiau newydd-ddyfodiaid Cyfle sy’n llwyddo i gael gwaith yn y diwydiant yn dilyn eu cwrs.

Yn 2009 fe fydd y drefn o ariannu hyfforddiant gan y diwydiant yng Nghymru yn newid, gyda chyfraniadau ariannol aelodau TAC ac S4C bellach yn cael eu cyfeirio at y Fframwaith Hyfforddi o dan adain Skillset Cymru. Fe fydd yna her newydd i Cyfle, wrth i nifer o’r swyddogaethau y bu’n gyfrifol amdanynt yn y gorffennol gael eu gweithredu gan Skillset Cymru a Thasglu’r Fframwaith. Swyddogaeth Cyfle o hyn allan fydd darparu hyfforddiant i gyfarfod â gofynion y diwydiant, gan gynnig am gyllid ar gyfer ei gynlluniau trwy system dender. Bydd adeiladu ar y berthynas gydweithredol dda gyda Skillset Cymru yn bwysig, fel hefyd y bydd y gwaith o adnabod gofynion cwmnïau unigol, gan anelu at greu atebion hyfforddi ymarferol a chost effeithiol i sefydliadau sydd â disgwyliadau sy’n medru amrywio llawer. Fe fydd dealltwriaeth arbennig Cyfle o’r angen sydd yng Nghymru am dalent sy’n medru gweithio drwy’r Gymraeg a’r Saesneg, yn sylfaen bwysig i’r gweithgareddau yma.

Mae’r llwyddiant i greu gwarged ariannol bychan yn 2008 yn galonogol er mwyn wynebu her y dyfodol yn hyderus ac fe hoffwn ddiolch i Iona a’r tîm am flwyddyn o weithredu egnïol ac effeithiol ac i Fwrdd yr Ymddiriedolwyr am eu cefnogaeth gyson.

There has to be an open door into the industry for people of diverse backgrounds, and those already in the industry need to be given the chance to update and enrich their skills regularly.

Cyfle has been active in all these fields, receiving high praise for the quality of the training it provides and arranges. Most importantly, there is widespread recognition that Cyfle training is highly relevant to the world of work and that the quality of its trainees is consistently high. Once again, it’s good to be able to note the very high proportion of those following Cyfle new entrants courses who succeeded in gaining employment in the industry at the end of their courses.

2009 is the year when the mechanism by which the industry in Wales funds training will change, with the financial contributions made by TAC members and S4C now being channelled to the Training Framework under the auspices of Skillset Cymru. For Cyfle there will be new challenges, as several of the core functions for which it has traditionally been responsible now transfer to Skillset Cymru and the Framework Taskforce. Cyfle’s role henceforth will be to provide training which meets industry needs, bidding for funding for its schemes through a tender process. It will be important to build on the excellent relationship with Skillset Cymru as well as to continue to identify the needs of individual companies, with the aim of creating practical and effective training solutions for organisations which may have a wide range of expectations and priorities. Cyfle’s particular understanding of the importance in Wales of talent which can work through Welsh and English will underpin these activities.

The success in delivering a small financial surplus in 2008 is a heartening basis from which to face the challenge of the future with confidence and I would like to thank Iona and her team for a year of energetic and efficient operation and the Board of Trustees for their consistent support.

Prif thema gweithgareddau craidd Cyfle yn 2008 oedd ein cynlluniau arloesol i ddarparu hyfforddiant aml-lwyfan ac i ddatblygu hyfforddiant mewn meysydd blaenoriaeth newydd:- Ymddiriedaeth a Chydymffurfiaeth; Amddiffyn Plant; Ymarfer Proffesiynol mewn Animeiddio Digidol ac Arweinyddiaeth a Rheolaeth. Cyflwynwyd hefyd gyrsiau newydd ar gyfer cynhyrchwyr ffilm a chwrs oedd yn hwyluso mynediad pobl anabl i’r diwydiant. Llwyddwyd hefyd i gynyddu’n darpariaeth ar gyfer pobl lawrydd ac i barhau i gynnig hyfforddiant trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg.

Bydd y cyfnod o 2009 ymlaen yn creu sialensiau pellach. Bydd y dulliau traddodiadol o ariannu’n newid mewn hinsawdd economaidd ansicr, ac wrth i’r diwydiant ddod i delerau â realaeth newidiadau cyflym y byd digidol.

Mae yna bwyslais sy’n cynyddu’n gyflym ar ddatblygiad proffesiynol parhaus, yn arbennig felly mewn meysydd megis technoleg ddigidol, syniadau creadigol, a sgiliau busnes a rheolaeth. Rydym hefyd yn nodi angen cyflogwyr am welliant yn y sgiliau sylfaenol sydd gan y gweithlu yn ein diwydiant ni, fel mewn sawl diwydiant arall. Maes arall pwysig i’w ddatblygu yw’r un sy’n cael ei adnabod fel “llythrennedd yn y cyfryngau” - arf hanfodol i alluogi unigolion a chymunedau i ddatblygu sgiliau ar gyfer bywyd a gwaith yn yr oes ddigidol. I gloi, rydym yn cymeradwyo ymrwymiad Llywodraeth y Cynulliad Cenedlaethol i’r iaith Gymraeg ac edrychwn ymlaen at ymwneud yn gadarnhaol gyda’i Strategaeth ar gyfer Addysg Trwy Gyfrwng y Gymraeg a gyhoeddwyd yn ddiweddar.

Mae angen i Cyfle fod yn greadigol, arloesol, â’i nod yn glir wrth ymateb i’r sialensiau a’r cyfleoedd hyn. Fe wnawn hyn trwy weithio’n agos gyda Skillset Cymru a’i Fframwaith Tasglu Hyfforddi a thrwy gynnal ein perthynas gref gyda’r cwmnïau annibynnol a’r darlledwyr yng Nghymru. Fe gydweithiwn gyda sectorau addysg uwch a phellach yng Nghymru a datblygu ein rhaglenni estyn allan i gymunedau. Byddwn yn bwrw ymlaen yn egnïol i ddatblygu’n rhaglenni hyfforddiant aml-lwyfan arloesol, sy’n canolbwyntio ar anghenion y diwydiant, a gyda golwg ar y farchnad fyd-eang yn ogystal â’r farchnad leol, ac fe fyddwn yn sicrhau y bydd staff Cyfle ei hun yn cael y cyfle i ddatblygu eu sgiliau hwythau er mwyn ateb y gofynion hyn.

The key themes of Cyfle’s core activities in 2008 were our innovative multi-platform training provision, the development of training in new priority areas such as Trust and Compliance, Child Protection, Professional Practice in Digital Animation and Leadership and Management, as well as new courses for emerging film producers and the targeting of disabled people into the industry. We were also able to increase our provision for freelancers and continue to offer training through the medium of Welsh.

2009 and onwards produces further challenges, as traditional funding processes change, against a background of an unstable economic climate, and an industry that is coming to terms with the realities of a fast changing digital world.

There is a rapidly growing emphasis on continuing professional development, particularly in areas such as digital technology, creative ideas, and business and management skills. We also note the requirement of employers for improved basic skills amongst employees within our sector as in many others, and the importance of media literacy as an essential tool to enable individuals and communities to develop life and work skills for the digital age. Finally, we applaud the Welsh Assembly Government’s commitment to the Welsh language and look forward to engaging positively with its recently published Welsh Medium Education Strategy.

Cyfle needs to be creative, innovative and highly focused in its response to these challenges and opportunities. We will do this by working closely with Skillset Cymru and its Training Framework Taskforce and by maintaining our strong relationships with the independent companies and broadcasters in Wales. We will collaborate with the Higher and Further Education sectors in Wales and develop our ‘outreach’ programmes to communities. We will forge ahead with our innovative, multi-platform training programmes, focused on industry needs, with a view to the global as well as the home market and we will ensure that Cyfle staff are given the opportunity to develop their own skills in order to meet these challenges.

Mewn cydweithrediad â BBC Cymru, llwyddodd Cyfle i ddiwallu’r gofyn am sgiliau newydd gododd yn sgil llwyddiant Doctor Who drwy hyfforddi chwe unigolyn mewn meysydd arbenigol. Roedd pob swydd hyfforddi yn para chwe mis, gyda dyddiadau cychwyn amrywiol.

Derbyniodd yr hyfforddeion hyfforddiant ar-waith gyda thâl wrth weithio ar y gyfres enwog. Ariennir swyddi hyfforddi’r Hyfforddai Adeiladu, Golygydd dan Hyfforddiant a’r Cydlynydd Ôl-gynhyrchu dan Hyfforddiant o dan gynllun Cydraddoldeb gan Lywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru. Roedd y meysydd eraill yn cynnwys Rigiwr dan Hyfforddiant, Trefnydd Lleoliadau dan Hyfforddiant a Golygydd dan Hyfforddiant.

Ers cwblhau’r cynllun, mae un hyfforddai wedi derbyn cytundeb gan BBC Cymru ac mae un arall wedi gweithio’n llawrydd ar nifer o gynyrchiadau cyn derbyn swydd barhaol gyda Theledu Telesgop. Mae tri o’r hyfforddeion wedi cael gwaith llawrydd rheolaidd o fewn y diwydiant, gan gynnwys BBC Cymru. Mae hyfforddai arall yn dilyn gwaith o fewn y cyfryngau creadigol gan ddefnyddio’i sgiliau trosglwyddadwy mewn sectorau eraill sydd â gofynion tebyg.

In collaboration with BBC Cymru Wales, Cyfle addressed new skills requirements created by the success of Doctor Who by training six individuals in specialist posts. The duration of each post was six months, with different start dates.

The trainees received paid, on-the-job training whilst working on the award winning series. This included a Construction Trainee, a Trainee Editor, and a Post Production Co-ordinator, who were part of a Welsh Assembly Government funded Equality scheme. The other posts included a Trainee Rigger, a Locations Trainee and a Trainee Editor.

Since completing their scheme, one trainee has secured a contract with BBC Cymru Wales and another trainee worked as a freelance on various productions before securing a permanent post with Teledu Telesgop. Three of the trainees have found regular freelance work within the industry, including BBC Cymru Wales. Another trainee is pursuing work in the media industry and using their transferable skills within neighbouring sectors.

Cwblhaodd chwech o hyfforddeion o Orllewin Cymru a’r Cymoedd y Stiwdio Hyfforddi Animeiddio Digidol yn 2008. Roedd y cynllun yn rhedeg mewn cydweithrediad â chwmnïau animeiddio sydd gyda chomisiynau gan S4C, sef Calon, Dinamo a Griffilms. Nod y Stiwdio oedd darparu hyfforddiant i safon y diwydiant drwy gyfuniad o hyfforddiant stiwdio a lleoliadau galwedigaethol yn lleol ac yn rhyngwladol. Roedd Bwrdd Llywio gyda chynrychiolwyr o’r diwydiant lleol, yn cwrdd bob chwe wythnos i lywio’r hyfforddiant.

Roedd wyth mis cyntaf y cynllun yn cael ei redeg yn y stiwdio hyfforddi, lle’r oedd yr hyfforddeion yn derbyn hyfforddiant arbenigol i ddefnyddio pedwar prif becyn meddalwedd animeiddio’r diwydiant: Toon Boom Studio, Flash, After Effects a Maya. Cwblhaodd yr hyfforddeion gyfanswm o chwe phrosiect unigol a phrosiect grwp yn ystod y cyfnod hwn mewn ymateb i friffiau wedi eu gosod gan y diwydiant. Dilynwyd hyn gan leoliad gwaith am fis gyda chwmni animeiddio o Wlad Thai, Imagimax Studios, ar gynllun cyfnewid diwylliannol i rannu gwybodaeth ac arferion gorau. Daeth y cynllun i ben ym Mehefin 2008, wedi i’r hyfforddeion gwblhau gwaith ar leoliad am dri mis gyda stiwdios animeiddio lleol yng Nghymru. Roedd yr hyfforddeion yn derbyn lwfans hyfforddi wythnosol trwy gydol y cynllun. Ers cwblhau’r hyfforddiant, mae dau hyfforddai wedi cael swyddi llawn amser mewn 2D gyda chwmnïau animeiddio lleol ac un arall bellach yn cynllunio gwaith animeiddio ar gyfer cwmni graffeg symudol. Mae tri o’r hyfforddeion yn gweithio ar gytundebau animeiddio llawrydd.

Six trainees from West Wales and the Valleys completed the Digital Animation Training Studio in collaboration with S4C’s commissioned animation companies Calon, Dinamo and Griffilms. The aim of the Studio was to provide industry level training through a combination of studio based learning and local and international vocational industry placements. The Studio was steered by a group of local practitioners who met every six weeks.

The initial eight months of the scheme was spent in the training studio, where trainees received expert tuition in the use of the four main animation industry software packages: Toon Boom Studio, Flash, After Effects and Maya. In total, six individual projects and a group project were completed by the trainees during this period in response to briefs set by industry. This was followed by a month long industry work placement with Thai animation company Imagimax Studios, a cultural exchange to share knowledge and best practice. A three month work placement with local animation studios in Wales concluded the scheme in June 2008. Trainees received a weekly training allowance throughout the scheme.

Since completing the training, two trainees have secured full-time work in 2D with local animation studios, one trainee now designs animations for a motion graphics company, and three trainees are busy with freelance animation contracts.

Hyfforddiant llawn amser gyda thâl mewn pedwar maes arbenigol ar gyfer ffilm: Cydlynydd Cynhyrchu, 3ydd Cyfarwyddwr Cynorthwyol, Gweithredwr Bwm a Chynorthwyydd Adran Gelf.

Cychwynnodd y cynllun gyda chwrs rhagarweiniol dwys am gyfnod o fis yng nghanolfan hyfforddi Cyfle, Caerdydd. Yn dilyn hyn, derbyniodd yr hyfforddeion hyfforddiant galwedigaethol ar gynyrchiadau ffilm ar hyd y DU yn ogystal â chyrsiau byrion allanol. Ar ddiwedd y cwrs, trefnwyd rhaglen gloi oedd yn cynnwys cyngor gyrfaol ar ysgrifennu CV, sgiliau marchnata a negydu a chyngor ynglyn â bod yn weithiwr llawrydd. Yr hyfforddeion hyn oedd ymhlith y cyntaf o hyfforddeion Cyfle i weithio tuag at Dystysgrif Ragarweiniol City & Guilds ar gyfer y Diwydiant Clyweled.

Ar ôl cwblhau’r cynllun hyfforddi, llwyddodd un hyfforddai i sicrhau cytundeb chwe mis gyda Tornado Films ac aeth dau ymlaen i weithio’n llawrydd ar ffilm nodwedd Skellig. Aeth y pedwerydd hyfforddai ymlaen i weithio ar ei brosiectau ei hun a cheisio am waith llawrydd.

Full time paid training in four specialised film grades: Production Coordinator, 3rd Assistant Director, Boom Operator and Art Department Assistant.

The scheme started with an intensive month long induction course at the Cyfle training centre in Cardiff, followed by vocational, on-the-job placements on film productions UK-wide and external short courses. An exit programme, which included careers advice on CV writing, marketing and negotiating skills and advice on becoming a freelance worker, took place at the end of the course. The trainees were amongst the first Cyfle trainees to work towards a City & Guilds Induction Certificate for the Audiovisual Industries.

After completing the training, one trainee secured a six month contract with Tornado Films, two trainees secured freelance work on feature film Skellig and one trainee worked on his own projects and sought freelance work.

Yng Nghyfrifiad Cyflogaeth Skillset 2006 tynnwyd sylw at dan-gynrychiolaeth unigolion o gefndiroedd croenddu a lleiafrifoedd ethnig yng ngweithlu’r cyfryngau newydd a theledu. Roedd y cynllun llawn amser hwn yn rhan o gyfres o gynlluniau mewn cydweithrediad â BBC Cymru, Boomerang, S4C a Skillset er mwyn ymrafael â’r diffyg yma.

Dros gyfnod o 12 mis, derbyniodd pedwar Hyfforddai Cynhyrchu Aml-Lwyfan ac un Hyfforddai Camera, hyfforddiant yn canolbwyntio ar ofynion y diwydiant. Ar gyfer yr hyfforddeion aml-lwyfan, roedd hyn yn cynnwys saith wythnos o hyfforddiant mewnol gan weithio i friff pwrpasol ar gyfer Doctor Who a Torchwood. Aeth yr hyfforddeion ymlaen i ddefnyddio’u sgiliau newydd ar leoliad gydag adrannau amrywiol yn BBC Cymru a gyda chwmnïau cynhyrchu yng Nghymru. Daeth y cynllun, oedd yn darparu lwfans hyfforddi wythnosol, i ben ym mis Medi 2008.

Ar ddiwedd y cynllun, sicrhaodd dau hyfforddai gytundebau gyda BBC Cymru, mae dau yn derbyn hyfforddiant arbenigol pellach ac mae’r Hyfforddai Camera wedi bod yn gweithio’n llawrydd.

In 2006, Skillset’s Employment Census identified the need to address the under-representation of people from black or minority ethnic backgrounds within the new media and television sector. This full-time scheme was part of a series of collaborations with BBC Cymru Wales, Boomerang, S4C and Skillset which aimed to address this under-representation.

Over a period of 12 months, four Multi-Platform Production Trainees and one Camera Trainee received industry focused training. For the multi-platform trainees, this included a seven week, in-house training period, which involved industry briefs for Doctor Who and Torchwood. The trainees then went on to use their newly acquired skills on work placements with various BBC Cymru Wales departments and with selected production companies in Wales. The scheme, which provided trainees with a weekly allowance, finished in September 2008.

On completion, two trainees gained contracts with BBC Cymru Wales, two trainees went on to receive further specialised training and the Camera Trainee has been working freelance.

Mae’r cynllun llawn amser, sy’n para 12 mis, yn cael ei redeg mewn cydweithrediad â chwmnïau cynhyrchu annibynnol Cymreig gan gynnwys Mwnci (Grwp Boomerang), Cwmni Da, Green Bay, Indus Films, Presentable, Rondo Media a Theledu Telesgop, sydd wedi eu lleoli yng Nghaernarfon, Caerdydd ac Abertawe.

Yn ystod y mis cyntaf, roedd yr hyfforddeion yn cymryd rhan mewn cwrs rhagarweiniol dwys gyda’r cynhyrchydd profiadol Sue Jeffries. A vocational TV training scheme for nine Welsh-speaking trainees which includes a weekly training allowance. The 12 month, full-time scheme is run in collaboration with Wales’s independent production companies Mwnci (Boomerang Group), Cwmni Da, Green Bay, Indus Films, Presentable, Rondo Media and Teledu Telesgop, based in Caernarfon, Cardiff and Swansea.

During the first month of the course, the trainees were involved in an intensive induction programme with established producer Sue Jeffries. The remainder of the course will see the trainees specialising in their chosen fields, which include six Trainee Researchers, a Trainee Editor and Post-Production Operator, a Trainee Production Co-ordinator and a Trainee Production Secretary. The scheme will provide the trainees with individual training plans, mentoring by industry practitioners and a training budget for external short courses. They will also work towards a City & Guilds Induction Certificate for the Audiovisual Industries.

A 12 month, paid on-the-job training scheme for two Trainee Assistant Editors and four Production Trainees. The aim is to address the under-representation in the TV sector of disabled people and those from black or minority ethnic backgrounds, a need identified by Skillset’s Employment Census 2006.

Starting in December 2008, the six trainees completed an intensive five week induction course. During this period, the trainees completed the City & Guilds Induction Certificate for the Audiovisual Industries and also worked on a practical project. The remainder of the training will be vocational on placement with production companies and facility houses in Wales, including Mwnci (Boomerang Group), BBC Cymru Wales and Green Bay. There will also be an opportunity to attend off-the-job, formal short courses as well as receive mentoring from industry professionals. The course will conclude with an exit programme.

Based on the pilot film scheme for new entrants, a second training scheme started in December 2008 for eight new entrants from the UK. The scheme includes paid, vocational training on UK-wide film productions for two Production Trainees, two Archive Trainees, a Trainee Script Editor, a Trainee Assistant Editor, a Trainee Costume Assistant and a Trainee Hair and Make Up Assistant. Placements will include: Mr Nice, produced by Independent Film Company, The British Guide to Showing Off by Living Cinema and Patagonia by Malacara Limited. All eight trainees followed a five week industry induction programme during which they completed the City & Guilds Induction Certificate for the Audiovisual Industries and worked on a practical project.

Throughout the scheme, the trainees will receive a training budget for specialised short courses, mentoring from industry practitioners and an exit programme. At the end of the scheme, the trainees will be equipped with transferable skills for both the film and television industries.

Labordy Hyfforddi Animeiddio Digidol oedd yn cynnig lwfans hyfforddi ar gyfer chwech o bobl broffesiynol o Orllewin Cymru a’r Cymoedd. Roedd hwn yn gynllun peilot wedi’i gynllunio er mwyn darparu hyfforddiant ar lefel uchel i animeiddwyr 3D a 2D mewn cynhyrchu gwaith digidol, gan ddefnyddio meddalwedd Flash, Maya ac After Effects yn bennaf. Roedd yr hyfforddiant yn digwydd mewn amgylchedd stiwdio ble roedd yr hyfforddeion yn cydweithio ar gysyniad creadigol, o’r sgript i’r sgrin. Roedd y diwydiant yn arwain y cynllun, gyda hyfforddwyr arbenigwyr yn darparu’r hyfforddiant, yn cynnwys Rick Villeneuve, Matt Leonard a Tim Allen. Erbyn diwedd y cynllun, cynhyrchwyd Lloer Leidr, sef animeiddiad pum munud o hyd a all gael ei gyflwyno i wyliau ffilmiau byrion, ynghyd â’r fersiwn Saesneg, Moon Pirates.

Ar ôl cwblhau’r cynllun, enillodd un hyfforddai le ar gynllun Insight Out NESTA, sef rhaglen fydd yn rhoi cymorth i gychwyn busnes animeiddio. Mae un hyfforddai bellach yn animeiddio ar gyfer y diwydiant hedfan, un arall yn creu ac yn dylunio ar gyfer stiwdio gemau a’r tri animeiddiwr sy’n weddill yn gweithio’n llawrydd gyda stiwdios lleol.

A paid, three month Digital Animation Training Lab scheme for six professionals from West Wales and the Valleys. This was a pilot scheme designed to provide advanced learning in the production of digital animation for 3D and 2D animators, primarily using Flash, Maya and After Effects software. The training took place in a learning studio environment, within which the trainees collaborated on a creative concept, from script to screen. It was led by industry and delivered by specialised tutors, including Rick Villeneuve, Matt Leonard and Tim Allen. The end result was the production of a commercially marketable five minute animated film, Moon Pirates, which also has a Welsh version, Lloer Leidr.

After finishing the scheme, one trainee successfully secured a winning place on the NESTA Insight Out Scheme, a programme to assist in setting up an animation business. One trainee now animates for a company working in the aviation industry, another trainee creates and designs for a gaming studio and the remaining three animators are working freelance with local studios.

Yn ystod y cynllun, cafodd y pedwar hyfforddai gyfle i ddatblygu eu syniadau eu hunain, mynychu dosbarthiadau meistr arbenigol a chymryd rhan mewn rhaglen Dysgu ac Addysgu. Roeddent hefyd wedi cymryd rhan mewn amryw o weithgareddau cynhyrchu yn ogystal â mynychu Gwyl Ffilm Cannes.

Mae’r cynllun wedi darparu’r pedwar unigolyn gyda’r sgiliau i gynhyrchu eu gwaith eu hunain yn ogystal â gwaith pobl eraill. Ers cwblhau’r cynllun ym mis Tachwedd 2008, mae un hyfforddai wedi gorffen saethu ei ffilm ac mae hyfforddai arall wedi bod yn gweithio ar ffilm ficro. Mae hyfforddai arall yn datblygu ei ffilm nodwedd ei hun ac wedi sicrhau lle ar raglen hyfforddi broffesiynol uwch tra mae hyfforddai arall yn canolbwyntio ar ei gwaith ysgrifennu a hefyd yn defnyddio’i sgiliau trosglwyddadwy o fewn y diwydiant teledu yng Nghymru.

A 10 month, full time training scheme for emerging producers, in collaboration with Boom Films, the film arm of the Boomerang Group. During the scheme, four trainees had the opportunity to develop their own ideas, attend specialised master classes and take part in a Learning and Teaching programme. They were also involved in various production activities and attended the Cannes Film Festival.

The scheme has provided all four individuals with skills that will allow them to produce their own work as well as the work of others. Since completing the scheme in November 2008, one trainee has finished shooting their first film, one has been working on a micro movie and another is developing their own feature film, having secured a place on an advanced professional development programme. Another trainee is concentrating on writing and using their transferable skills to work in Wales’s TV industry.

Roedd yr ail Labordy wedi’i selio ar lwyddiant y Labordy Hyfforddi Animeiddio Digidol cyntaf. Gan gynnig lwfans hyfforddi, cynyddwyd hyd yr ail Labordy i bedwar mis, ac roedd wedi’i gynllunio unwaith eto ar gyfer bobl broffesiynol, y tro hwn o Gymru gyfan. Ymwneud y diwydiant â’r cwrs oedd prif ffocws yr hyfforddiant unwaith yn rhagor ac fe’i darparwyd mewn amgylchedd stiwdio hyfforddi. Roedd y tiwtoriaid arbenigol yn cynnwys Matt Leonard a Dom Stevens, gyda Rick Villeneuve yn mentora rheolaeth y prosiect. Un datblygiad yn y cynllun oedd gweithio i friff gan gleient, sef Autism Cymru. Cyd-weithiodd yr hyfforddeion ar y prosiect hwn gan ddefnyddio Maya i gynhyrchu ffilm fer fydd yn helpu i gynyddu ymwybyddiaeth o Awtistiaeth yng Nghymru.

Ar gwblhau’r hyfforddiant, mae un hyfforddai yn gweithio’n llawrydd ar gysyniadau celf ar gyfer prosiectau teledu ac mae hyfforddai arall yn datblygu ei ffilm animeiddio ei hun. Mae un hyfforddai wedi cychwyn ar waith animeiddio 2D ar gyfer prosiect cyfryngau newydd ac mae tri o’r animeiddwyr yn gweithio’n llawrydd ar amryw o brosiectau CGI.

The second Lab was based on the success of the first Digital Animation Training Lab scheme. Providing a weekly training allowance, the second Lab was extended to four months and was again designed for professionals, this time from across Wales. Industry involvement was again the main focus of the training which was provided in a learning studio environment. Specialised tutors included Matt Leonard and Dom Stevens, whilst project management mentoring was supplied by Rick Villeneuve. A development in the scheme was an industry client brief from Autism Cymru. This was a project which the trainees collaborated on to produce a short film using Maya that will aid in the awareness of Autism in Wales.

On completion of the training, one trainee is working freelance on concept artwork for TV projects and another trainee is developing their own animated short film project. One trainee has started work in 2D animation for a new media project and three animators are working freelance on various projects in CGI.

Yn 2008, trwy gyfrwng Cronfa Sgiliau Cymru, cynigiodd Cyfle gefnogaeth ariannol i 183 o weithwyr llawrydd a staff llawn amser yng Nghymru i fanteisio ar ddatblygiad proffesiynol parhaus. Mae Cyfle yn ganolfan asesu cofrestredig ac wedi’i chymeradwyo ar gyfer NVQ Iechyd a Diogelwch. Yn ystod 2008, gweithiodd 62 o unigolion o’r diwydiant yng Nghymru ar CD Diogelwch ar Gynhyrchiad fel rhan o gymhwyster NVQ, gyda 19 o’r rhain yn cwblhau’r cwrs i safonau NVQ am y tro cyntaf. Ail-gymhwysodd 25 o bobl, sy’n digwydd bob tair blynedd, ac mae’r 18 sy’n weddill yn dal i weithio tuag at ofynion y cymhwyster. Cynhaliwyd hefyd gwrs ‘Cyflwyniad i Iechyd a Diogelwch (Statudol)’ ar gyfer newydd ddyfodiaid ar y cynllun Stiwdio Hyfforddi Animeiddio Digidol. Hefyd, darparwyd Cyrsiau Rhagarweiniol yn dilyn uned City & Guilds ar gyfer 22 o hyfforddeion. Llwyddodd pob un i gyrraedd y safon ofynnol ar gyfer y Dystysgrif Lefel 2.

In 2008, Cyfle’s Skills Wales Fund offered financial support for 183 freelance workers and full-time staff in Wales towards continuous professional development. This included the delivery of seven industry level short courses and 25 successful funding applications towards alternative UK courses. Two Scriptwriters’ Weekends attracted a further 190 delegates, with additional funding from Skillset Cymru.

Health and Safety Training

Cyfle is an approved registered assessment centre for Health and Safety NVQs. During 2008, 62 individuals from the industry in Wales worked on the BBC Production Safety CD as part of the NVQ qualification, 19 of whom completed the course in accordance with NVQ standards for the first time. 25 individuals completed the refresher course, which they must do every three years, and the remaining 18 individuals are working towards the qualification. An ‘Introduction to Health and Safety (Statutory)’ course was delivered for new entrants on the Digital Animation Training Studio scheme. Similar Introductory Courses following a City & Guilds unit were delivered for a further 22 trainees. All achieved the standard required for this Level 2 Certificate.

Gweithdy Ysgrifennu Sgript

Gweithdy Ysgrifennu Sgript deuddydd o hyd ar gyfer chwech o bobl ifanc o dan 18 oed gafodd ei redeg yn Galeri, Caernarfon gan Bedwyr Rees, Rondo Media. Roedd y gweithdy’n canolbwyntio ar wahanol ddulliau o ysgrifennu o fewn tîm.

Ysgol Haf Animeiddio

Daeth chwech o animeiddwyr ifanc o Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr i stiwdio hyfforddi Cyfle Caerdydd am bedwar diwrnod ar gyfer Ysgol Haf Animeiddio Flash gyda Nick Price o moonoo productions. Roedd y cwrs yn cynnwys cyflwyniad i Flash, sesiynau creu syniadau a gweithdai cymeriadu a chreu cefndiroedd. Cwblhaodd y disgyblion hefyd brosiect animeiddio yn ystod y pedwar diwrnod.

Uploading Content

Six young people, 15 years and above, took part in a three-day Uploading Content workshop at Galeri, Caernarfon. Run in collaboration with Rhodri ap Dyfrig of Sesh TV, the aim of the workshop was to teach the young enthusiasts how to create effective content for the web.

Scriptwriting Workshop

A two-day Scriptwriting workshop for six young people, 18 or under, was delivered at Galeri, Caernarfon, by Bedwyr Rees of Rondo Media. The workshop focused on different writing styles within a team. Supported by

Animation Summer School

Six young animators from Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr participated in a four day Flash Animation Summer School with animator Nick Price of moonoo productions. The course, which was held at the Cyfle training studios in Cardiff, included an introduction to Flash workshop, generating ideas sessions and character and background design workshops. The young animators also completed an animation project during the four days.

Cyfle Rhyngwladol

2008 oedd ail flwyddyn is-gwmni masnachol Cyfle. Nod Cyfle Rhyngwladol yw cryfhau cysylltiadau dramor, darparu hyfforddiant ar leoliad gyda chwmnïau yn ogystal â rhannu ymarfer gorau. Roedd gweithgareddau hyfforddi 2008 yn cynnwys:

Dosbarthiadau Meistr Rhyngwladol

Mewn cydweithrediad â FINAS, Corfforaeth Datblygu Ffilm Malaysia, cynhaliwyd dau ddosbarth feistr uwch ar gyfer 35 o ysgrifenwyr ac actorion proffesiynol o’r diwydiant ffilm ym Malaysia. Roedd hyn yn cynnwys dilyniant i’r gweithdy saith diwrnod Datblygu Sgript ar gyfer Ffilm Nodwedd a dosbarth feistr pum niwrnod Actio ar gyfer Ffilm.

Lleoliadau Gwaith Rhyngwladol

Darparwyd lleoliad hyfforddi rhyngwladol mis o hyd ar gyfer chwech o hyfforddeion Stiwdio Hyfforddi Animeiddio Digidol Cyfle gyda Imagimax Studios, Bangkok ym mis Ionawr 2008. Yn ystod y lleoliad, roedd yr hyfforddeion yn gweithio ar brosiectau creadigol wedi eu gosod gan yr adran 2D. Yn ogystal â hyn, roeddent yn ymchwilio i syniadau ar gyfer eu prosiectau terfynol, Trolley Dollies a Chicken Run, a oedd wedi eu selio ar eu profiadau rhyngwladol.

Gwyl Ffilm Cannes

Mynychodd dau newydd ddyfodiad ar y Cynllun Hyfforddi Diwydiant Ffilm Cymru a phedwar o’r Hyfforddeion Cynhyrchu ar y cynllun Boom Films, Wyl Ffilm Cannes ym mis Mai 2008. Gyda staff Cyfle ac Antony Smith, Uwch Gynhyrchydd prosiect Boom Films, yn cefnogi, cymerodd yr hyfforddeion ran mewn gweithdai, digwyddiadau sgrinio a rhwydweithio yn ogystal â chynnal cyfarfodydd i drafod eu prosiectau eu hunain.

Cyfle International

2008 saw Cyfle international enter its second year as Cyfle’s commercial subsidiary. Its aim is to strengthen overseas links, provide company attachments and share best practice. Training activities in 2008 included:

International Master Classes

In collaboration with FINAS, the Film Development Corporation Malaysia, two advanced master classes were delivered for 35 professional writers and actors from the Malaysian film industry. This included a follow up to the seven-day Script Development for Feature Film practical master class and a five-day master class in Acting for Film.

International Placements

A month-long international work placement for six Cyfle trainees from the Digital Animation Studio took place with Imagimax Studio in Bangkok in January 2008. The placement involved working to creative projects set by the 2D department, and researching ideas for their final projects, Trolley Dollies and Chicken Run, which were based on their international experiences.

Cannes Film Festival

Two Cyfle new entrants on the Wales Film Industry Training Scheme and all four Trainee Producers on the Cyfle Boom Films scheme, attended the Cannes Film Festival in May 2008. Accompanied by Cyfle staff and Antony Smith, Executive Director of the Boom Films project, the trainees attended workshops, screenings, networking functions and held meetings to discuss their own projects.

Yn 2008, enillwyd statws Buddsoddwyr Mewn Pobl unwaith eto am barhau i weithredu ymarfer da cyson o fewn y sefydliad. Dyma’r pumed tro i Cyfle dderbyn y statws, sy’n cael ei ddyfarnu pob tair blynedd, ers 1995.

Partneriaeth gydag Academi Sgrîn Cymru Skillset (ASCS)

Yn 2008, gweithiodd Cyfle yn agos gyda ASCS er mwyn penodi Swyddog Hyfforddi Diwydiannol i gychwyn yn 2009. Rôl y swyddog newydd, Rhian Iolo Brewster, yw cynorthwyo gyda threfnu lleoliadau ar hyd y DU ar gyfer hyfforddeion Ffilm Cyfle. Bydd ei rôl hefyd yn cynnwys cydlynu Cyfleuster Ôl-raddio (PGF) ASCS. Mae’r PGF yn gynllun newydd ar gyfer 2009 sy’n darparu rhaglen rhan amser dros chwe mis o ddatblygu proffesiynol ar gyfer graddedigion arbennig o gyrsiau ASCS. Mae’r cynllun yn seiliedig ar ddarparu lleoliadau gwaith yn y diwydiant ynghyd â chyrsiau byrion arbenigol a mentora gan bobl sy’n gweithio yn y diwydiant.

Cyfle 21

Ym mis Hydref 2008, dathlodd Cyfle 21 mlynedd o hyfforddiant gyda digwyddiad ar gyfer cyn-hyfforddeion a phartneriaid o’r diwydiant yng Ngwesty’r Parc Thistle, Caerdydd. Daeth dros 180 i’r digwyddiad a oedd yn cynnwys siaradwyr gwadd Iona Jones, Prif Weithredwr S4C; a Gary Townsend, Uwch Gyfarwyddwr Skillset. Cyflwynwyd hefyd dystysgrifau i hyfforddeion Ffilm ac Amrywiaeth Cyfle, a chafwyd set DJ gan Huw Stephens i ddilyn.

Award

In 2008 Cyfle was awarded the Investors in People status for continuing achievement of good practice within the organisation. The status, which is awarded every three years, is the fifth to be awarded to Cyfle since 1995.

Partnership with the Skillset Screen Academy Wales (SSAW)

In 2008, Cyfle worked closely with SSAW in order to appoint a new Industry Training Officer to start in 2009. The role of the new officer, Rhian Iolo Brewster, is to assist with arranging UK-wide industry placements for Cyfle Film trainees and coordinate the SSAW Post Graduation Facility (PGF). A new scheme for 2009, the PGF provides a six-month, part-time programme of personal development for selected graduates from SSAW courses. The scheme consists of industry focused placements combined with specialised short courses and mentoring from industry practitioners.

Cyfle 21

In October 2008, Cyfle celebrated 21 years of training with an event for past trainees and industry partners at the Parc Thistle Hotel, Cardiff. Over 180 people attended the event, which included guest speakers Iona Jones, S4C Chief Executive; and Gary Townsend, Skillset Executive Director. Cyfle certificates were also presented to Cyfle Film and Diversity trainees and the evening concluded with a DJ set by Huw Stephens.
