HISTORY

On 11 March 2009, the Cyprus NGO Platform ‘The Development’ and the ‘Cyprus NGO Network’ signed a MOU,
constituting the legal basis of the Cyprus Island‐wide Non‐governmental Development
Organisations’ Platform ‐ CYINDEP
STRUCTURE• Rotating Presidency
• TC member has a wheelstructure with a rotating centralpresidency.
• GC member is structured with a • Board in the center.
Mission
• To bring together NGOs working on international development, development education, and development cooperation to improve the effectiveness of their work and
• advocacy.
Values• Cooperation, • Fairness, • Trust, • Effectiveness, • Community building, • Social Justice, • Equity, • Respect for Human Rights
Operations• A General Assembly will be held once a
year with members of both platforms.• The decision making mechanism will be with
consensus of the two member platforms. • Working groups will be formed to focus on
concrete areas of interest to the members.• The Coordinating Committee will consist of
4 members (2 from each platform /network). The representatives of each platform/network will be democratically elected by the members of each platform/network.
Operations• The Coordinating Committee will meet at
least once every three months. • The secretariat will be rotated among the
Coordinating Committee members every 6 months. The organization hosting the secretariat will also be the speaker for CYINDEP. The order of rotation will be decided by the Coordination Committee.
• The platform will be island-wide and there will be utmost care against discrimination or exclusion for any NGDO based on ethnicity, race, gender, religion, age or sexual preference.
• The Platform will in no way compete with the interests of its members.
Priorities• Raise awareness among Cypriots on issues
related to international development, poverty, development education, development cooperation, gender equality, human rights, health, and the UN MDGs
• Support its members to engage in development projects
• Support the distribution of information to all NGDOs
• Engage in advocacy and lobbying locally through member platforms and EU-wide and internationally by CYINDEP
Priorities• Provide opportunities for capacity building
activities for its members and affiliates
• Promote the information and knowledge exchange via internships and other means
• Represent the interests of Cypriot NGDOs in European and international flora
• CYINDEP will strive to become member to European and international networks and platforms.

Approaching CONCORDIn March 2009, CYINDEP sent a request to CONCORD for membershipOn 15 April 2009 the Coordinating Committee of CYINDEP signed the Foundation Charter, a pre-requisite to apply for CONCORD membershipCYINDEP participated as observer at the CONCORD General Assembly in JuneCYINDEP got officially invited to submit their application for CONCORD membership
