CYL Cultural Groups End of Year Gala 僑青社年終匯演僑青社年終匯演僑青社年終匯演僑青社年終匯演

A gala performance involving all CYL sub groups will be a chance for all students and members to perform to their fellow members, peers, families and friends.

The show will see the cultural groups showcasing their best performances in a full stage setting. The show will be held on 23

rd November (Sunday) at The Roundhouse, University of New

South Wales at Kensington. All CYL subgroups will participate in this great event. The show is themed around the flow of the Chinese Five Vital Elements. It is expected that the show will attract over 600 spectators. It is important to put the date in your diary and watch out for the performing times and details. Tickets will be available in early November.

The spectacular Lion Fest 08 is back for another year to showcase exciting Lion, Dragon and Martial Arts performances. This year's performance will be held in the Market City Centre Court on Saturday 11 Oct 2008. Performances will begin at 12 noon and continue until 5pm.

The festival will involve more clubs from around NSW, Queensland and Victoria in a celebration of Chinese lion dancing, dragon dancing, cultural dancing and various martial art forms such as wu shu, ju jitsu and kick boxing. The festival will include performances ranging from traditional lion dancing to Freestyle Lion dancing on metal poles. Participants include teams who have competed in the recent 2008 World Lion Championships in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. Get down to Market City to experience this event for yourself!

CYL Awarded City of Sydney Environmental Grants

CYL will be helping the City of Sydney to spread the environmental message on climate change and good waste management to the Chinese in Sydney. Thank to a City of Sydney Environmental Grant announced in August.

Calford Wong of CYL, who works in the climate change industry, will be conducting a series of public seminars and a media campaign targeted for the Chinese Community. Radio and newspaper announcements and weekly columns will be developed. Members who are interested in this subject should look out for the seminar details.

Calford Wong 先生是僑青社的執行管理委員會委員，

媒體宣傳活動。

關心環境保護的朋友們，都可以參與到我們活動中來。

Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Community Grant for Primary School Children Activities

Woolworths Fresh Food Kids has provided a grant of $2000 to assist CYL Cultural Dancing Group develop grass-roots initiatives for primary school aged children. On 20 August, Mr Michael Ooi, manager of the Woolworths Sydney (Town Hall) store handed a cheque to Patricia Quah, CYL Vice President.

It is anticipated that primary school age kids will use the opportunity to develop an interest in cultural dancing and as a form of import further mined and physical well being.

僑青社主席王達謙感謝華人社團朋友們齊心協力，才可以

取得晚宴的成功舉辦。 在贈送儀式，僑青社由陳清傑代表

王達謙出席並發表講話。

CYL and CAF Raised $57,500 in support Australian Olympic Team to attend 2008 Beijing Olympic Games On 31

July, CYL and Chinese Australian Forum (CAF)

presented a cheque of $57,500 to Helen Brownlee, the Chairperson of NSW Olympic Committee for the Australian sportspersons to attend Olympic Games. This fund was raised on 13 June at a dinner organised by CYL and CAF. At the presentation ceremony, Mr Ching Tan spoke on behalf of Ken Wong. He thanked CAF and CYL for their cooperation in bringing success to the dinner, making a contribution to the Australian Olympic movement.

This year’s Moon Festival was on 14

th September. CYL

has the support of Market City in Chinatown to organise a series of performances on the eve of the Festival on 13

th

September. All CYL groups, including Dragon Dancing, Lion Dancing, Cultural Dancing, Cantonese Opera, Wushu have performed. Dragon Dancing commenced from CYL clubhouse and arrived at Market City at noon. The Cultural Dancing group had their debut of two newly choreographed dances, a Dai Tribal Dance and a Wa Tribal Dance. The Cantonese Opera Group presented a medley of contemporary tunes about the beautiful legend of the mood goddess. The continuous performances at the stage attracted a very big crowd of spectators.

九月十四日是中國傳統閤家歡的節日—中秋佳節。僑青

社再次在香之城的大力支持下，在九月十三日即中秋節

的前一日，又成功舉辦了 2008 年的香之城中秋嘉年

華。

當日演出了絢麗的中國傳統民族舞蹈，活潑可愛的醒

獅，壯觀的舞龍，行雲流水般的劍舞，美妙的民樂演

奏，整個香之城都充滿了濃濃的節日氣氛。特別是新穎

的粵曲大連串，描繪了獨具特色的歷史故事“狄青闖三

關”和“嫦娥奔月”這個美麗的傳説。舞蹈祖也初次展

示了新編排的傣族舞蹈“月光下的鳳尾竹”和佤族舞蹈

“姑娘生來愛唱歌”。

演出帶來了濃濃的歡樂氣氛，又一個難忘的中秋佳節！

粵劇組粵劇組粵劇組粵劇組 雪梨僑青社粵劇團在中秋節前夕，於九月四日上午十時至下午六

時在本社三樓教室舉辦敬老粵曲欣賞會，免費為八十位六十歲以

上長者和印支老人院的老人演出。近二十位组員演出十三個著名

曲目, 並有拍和樂師共演, 並且提供午餐及舉行抽獎。

僑青社粤劇團十八週年慶典,現預計在十月舉行,亦將有演出和筹款

活動.

Cantonese Opera Troupe On 4

th September, CYL Cantonese Opera Troupe presented

a concert for the aged at the Upper Hall of CYL, with lunches and lucky draw. Some 80 seniors attended the occasions and some 20 troupe members presented 13 pieces with live music. They all enjoyed very much of the day. The troupe is planning an 18

th anniversary in October.

There will be performances and fund raising.

CYL is organizing a suite of performances for the Art Gallery of New South Wales in conjunction with the exhibition The Lost Buddhas: Chinese Buddhist Sculptures from Qingzhou, Shangdong, China. The exhibition is open from 29 August until 23 November, 2008. CYL Dancing Group performed at the Opening Night.

The CYL Dancing Group will performed again during the school holiday period at 1.30 pm – 2 pm from 6 October to 10 October, 2008.

The discovery of these 1500 years old Buddhist figures in 1996 in Qingzhou is considered one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20

th century.

CYL will be presenting “Expression Arise!”. The Chinese title literally means “dancing with rhythm to welcome treasures!”

“Expression Arise!” is a series of Chinese performing arts including cultural dances. Through the various pieces of the performances, CYL performers pay respect to the lost Buddhist sculptures of the 6th century and their arrival to NSW Art Gallery for the people of Australia.

這次的展覽將展出 35件精選自山東青州龍興寺遺址出

“韻舞迎珍”爲主題的演出項目。“韻舞迎珍”取意

自“用優美的舞蹈歡慶珍寶的到來”。演出以中國傳

統舞蹈的柔美來表現中國傳統藝術的魅力。

CYL joined AUSCOCO in Saying Farewell to HE Qiu Shaofang

On 29 June, CYL members attended Australian Council of Chinese Organisations Farewell Dinner to HE Qiu Shaofang Consul-General. Mr Qiu, HE, ended his term in early July. During his term of 3 years and 9 months, he supported CYL on many occasions including sponsoring our performing activities and fundraising activities. At the dinner, he spoke about his wish to work with us in future. The CYL formed a chorus and sang the well known song “Over the Land is our Love” as a dedication to Mr. Qiu, HE.

大家都記得邱紹芳總領事在任内多次支持僑青社的活

動,他在會上動情地講到，從他 2004年 9月 26日上任

以來，轉眼間已過了 3 年 9 個月零 9 天。這期間大家

共同慶祝過中國國慶、舉行過盛大的活動，今年經歷

了捐款捐物賑濟中國雪災、地震，許多感人肺腑的事

蹟讓他一次次受到教育，這都將轉為鞭策他繼續不懈

的努力工作的動力。他最後希望以後能再回雪梨，與

僑胞們再相居一堂，歡歌笑語。他的發言獲得熱烈掌

聲。

僑青社乒乓球隊在澳洲華裔相濟會主辦 2008 年第二屆「友

誼杯」乒乓球邀請賽還得到 70 歲男子團體冠軍。

本次比賽正值中國 2008 奧運會前夕，所以，此次邀請賽是

本著以推動乒乓球運動的實際行動，預祝中國舉辦的奧運

會取得圓滿成功。

Table Tennis Group CYL Table Tennis Group participated in the 2

nd Friendship

Cup Table Tennis Tournament of the Australian Chinese Descendants Mutual Association recently. The team won the champion in the 70+ Men’s Division. The game took place on the eve of the 2008 Beijing Olympic. The team felt good about the game as part of their contribution to the promotion of sport.

世界醒獅錦標賽中，從二十八個醒獅團取得了第十名。這是僑青

社醒獅組第三次遠赴馬來西亞參加國際大賽。

9月 21日, 醒獅組將舆舞蹈组為澳洲華童家庭會的聚會 2008會

議的家庭作出舞獅表演及示範.

10 月 11 日，醒獅組將在悉尼唐人街香之城主辦的第三屆醒獅及

武術觀摩大會中登臺獻藝。

Lion Dancing Group Scored High in the International Lion Dancing Competition in Malaysia Lion Dance Group led by Simon Wong went to Genting Highland in Malaysia to participate in the World Lion dance Championship Competition on 18-21 July 2008. The CYL team performed well and won the 10

th place among the 28

entrants from all over the world. Congratulation to Simon and the team for this great achievement! On 21 September, the Group joined with Cultural Dancing Group in presenting performances and demonstrations to the children and parents participants of the Ju Hui 2008 National Conference of the Families with Chinese Children. On 11 October, the Group will run the 3

rd Lion Dance and

Martial Arts Festival at Market City. (See front page).
