Mainport,Bothar Uí Mhanacháin,Corcaigh.Nollaig 2015.

Tionólfar Cruinniú Cinnbhliana Bord Choiste Chontae Chorcaí den Chumann Lúthchleas in Áras Raonaithe Nemo ar an Domhnach 13ú Nollaig 2015, ag tosnú ar 2.30 i.n.

Is cúis áthais dom Tuairisc a thabhairt ar gníomhachtaí an Chumainn sa Chontae i rith 2015.

Ní bhlian torthúil a bhí inti ó thaobh cúrsaí Eadar-Chontae. Cé gur cáil Corcaigh do Chluichí Cheannais na Sraitheanna Iomána agus Peile, buadh go trom orthu san dá chomórtas.

Thug na h-Iománaithe Sinsireacha taispeántaisí iontacha uathu i rith na bliana ach dob é neamhfhreagracht an cúis gur theip orthu sa Chraobh.

Cé cur thug na Peileadóirí Sinsireacha taispeántas fíor mhaith uathu i gCluiche Cheannais na Mumhan i gcoinnibh Chiarraí a chríochnaigh ar comh-scór, níor éirigh leo ag deireadh an taispeántas chéanna a thabhairt.

Bhí cumas mhaith ag an dá fhoireann Mionúir ach is féidir a rá go raibh mí-adh orthu nár éirigh leo a bhféidireachta a shroisint.

Dob é bua na h-Iománaithe Idirmheánach i gCraobh na Mumhan an t-aon rath a bhí ag an gContae i 2015, De bharr a mbua an bliain seo chaite ba fhoireann úr nua a chuaigh chun páirce ach do bhí an Ghaillimh ró-mhaith dhóibh i gCraobh na hÉireann.

Ba éacht fáilteach iad bua foirne Ban an Chontae i gCraobhach na hÉireann san Camógaíocht agus sa Pheil don dara bliain as a chéile. Traoslaimid a mbua leo.

Thosnaigh an obair ar Ath-Fhorbairt Pháirc Uí Chaoimh i mbliana. Tá sé beartaithe an ath-thógáil a thosnú sa bhliain nua.

Ba mhór an leas é Páirc Uí Rinn a bheith ar fáil don clár ollmhór chluichí i rith na bliana.

TUARASCÁIL AN RÚNAÍ

The Annual Convention of the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association will be held at Áras Raonaithe Nemo on Sunday 13th December 2015, commencing at 2.30 p.m.

I am pleased to present a Report on the activities of the Association in this County during 2015.

It was not the most fruitful of years in the Inter-County arena. Although Cork qualified for both National Hurling and Football League Finals, the County was well defeated in both contests.

The Senior Hurlers produced some outstanding performances during the year but incon-sistency was their downfall in the Championship.

The Senior Footballers performed brilliantly in the drawn Munster Final with Kerry but did not produce that form subsequently.

Both our Minor Teams had considerable potential, and can be said to have been rather un-lucky not to have achieved greater success.

The only silverware achieved was by our Intermediate Hurlers who, despite having to field a new team consequent on the County’s All-Ireland success in the previous year, won again in Munster but found Galway too formidable an opposition in the All-Ireland Final.

The achievement of the County’s Ladies Teams in winning the All-Ireland Senior Camogie and Ladies Football ‘double’ for the second year in a row was a most welcome and praise-worthy achievement.

The year saw the commencement of the Project to re-develop Páirc Uí Chaoimh with the existing Stands being demolished and preparatory piling works being undertaken. It is intended to start construction early in the New Year.

The benefit of the availability of Páirc U Rinn was seen to greater effect than ever during the past year when it catered for a massive programme of games.

County Championships

The County Championships were organised along the same lines as the 2014 championships, except for the addition of Junior ‘B’ Inter-Divisional Championships.

The Championships began on April 6th. A total of 293 Championship games were played in 16 Championships. All the finals were completed by November 1st with the exception of the U-21 ‘A’ Hurling drawn and replayed Finals.

One unusual feature of the Senior, Premier Intermediate and Intermediate Hurling Championships was that the teams that finished runners-up in 2014, all returned to win the 2015 Championships.

With Páirc Uí Chaoimh closed for Re-Development, all County Finals were played at Páirc Uí Rinn.

While Relegation Play-Offs were played, the losing teams were given the option of remaining in their respective grades as a result of New Championship Formats going forward.

New FormatsThe County Committee at its last meeting of the year decisively voted in New Formats and Regulations to govern the County Senior, Premier Intermediate and Intermediate Championships for the next four years, subject to a review after Year 2.

Clubs, based on their relative strength, player numbers and location will have different needs. Clubs and players must be provided with the opportunities to participate at the highest possible levels in well scheduled Competitions. This can only be good for improving standards of Club and County.

Some new Countywide Competitions in Championship and Leagues have proven beneficial to Clubs in lower grades.

Clubs requirements should be met where possible, and Clubs should not be frustrated in their efforts by non-participating Clubs in particular grades, or by sectional considerations.

Senior HurlingThe Championship got off to slow start with the early rounds producing some contests of a poor standard.

The competitiveness and standard of hurling improved greatly from Round 4. The quarter-finals produced some very good games, with Champions Sarsfields qualifying to play Erins Own, and Glen Rovers meeting Midleton in the semi-finals at Páirc Uí Rinn.

Glen Rovers and Sarsfields, who were taken to a replay by Erins Own, qualified for the Final for the second successive year.

The famed Glen Rovers showed remarkable resilience in coming from a 16-point deficit in last year’s Final to win the 2015 title by seven points. This was the Blackpool club’s first title in 26 years. It is good to see a new generation flying the colours of a Club that has contributed so much to the County Championship over the years. The contribution of Sarsfields to the Championship should not be overlooked. It was the club’s sixth Final appearance in an eight-year period.

Relegation Play Off – Killeagh lost to Bishopstown

Page 9: Dé Domhnaigh 13ú Nollaig 2015 - Amazon Web Servicessportlomo-userupload.s3.amazonaws.com/uploaded/galleries/... · 2015. 12. 24. · 1 COMHDHÁIL BHLIANTÚIL 2015 The Annual Convention

Senior FootballThis was a very competitive competition. There were several replays and close finishes in the early rounds. This suggested there was little between many of the teams at that stage.

The semi-finals at Páirc Uí Rinn produced two good games, in which Castlehaven defeated O’Donovan Rossa and Nemo Rangers overcame Carbery Rangers.

The Final was a keenly contested affair that ended in a draw. Both clubs had chances to win the game, the result however, reflected the evenness of the contest.

The replay was a similar type of game. A Nemo Rangers goal in the final quarter swung the balance of the contest in their favour, and they emerged winners after two tough games. This was Nemo Rangers 19th title in 43 years, a remarkable run of success.

There is great credit due also to runners-up Castlehaven for their magnificent contribution to the Final and the overall Championship.

Relegation Play-Off - Aghada lost to Clonakilty.

Premier Intermediate HurlingThis competition has proven very difficult to win over the past few years and this year was no exception. After some very exciting games Mallow, Newcestown, Valley Rovers and Ballinhassig reached the semi-finals, played in Páirc Uí Rinn.

Newcestown narrowly defeated Mallow and Valley Rovers, who lost Rounds 1 and 2, overcame Ballinhassig to reach the Final.

The Final did not reflect the keenness of the earlier rounds as Newcestown proved much too strong on the day.

By winning the Premier Intermediate Championship, Newcestown has become the first Club from the Carbery Division to achieve dual Senior status in the same year. It is a remarkable achievement for a rural club which was founded in 1959.

Relegation Play-Off – Kilworth lost to Inniscarra.

Premier Intermediate FootballWhile there was very little between many of the teams that contested this competition, the attendances at the early rounds suggest that it did not attract many supporters outside of the teams involved.

The later rounds of the competition were very competitive, with the victories of St Michaels over Castletownbere at Dunmanway and Carrigaline over Eire Óg in a Replay (both games played and Brinny) providing a novel pairing in the Final.

Carrigaline achieved Senior status in Football for the first time in the Club’s long history with a well-merited victory over St Michaels in the Final.

Relegation Play-Off – Ballinora lost to Na Piarsaigh.

Page 10: Dé Domhnaigh 13ú Nollaig 2015 - Amazon Web Servicessportlomo-userupload.s3.amazonaws.com/uploaded/galleries/... · 2015. 12. 24. · 1 COMHDHÁIL BHLIANTÚIL 2015 The Annual Convention

Intermediate HurlingThe Dripsey Club proved to be the real surprise in this Competition. After a number of years where the club had to work hard to retain its status, it put together a run of good form that saw them reach the Final.

Charleville were their opponents in the Final. The Avondhu side had gone very close to victory in 2014, and showed throughout the year that none of the 2014 form had been lost.

Dripsey and Charleville respectively defeated Aghada and Fr O’Neills in the semi-finals at Páirc Uí Rinn.

Charleville won the Final by a comfortable margin.

Relegatation Play-Off – Barryroe lost to Aghabullogue.

Intermediate FootballThis is a competition of very even standards.

Kanturk, Mayfield, Fermoy and Glanworth qualified for the semi-finals, with Mayfield and Fermoy advancing to the Final, by respectively defeating Kanturk in Macroom and Glanworth in Castlelyons.

The Final ended in draw. The shooting standards were very poor, with both teams failing to score for long periods. The replay was a far more open contest with Fermoy winning out in the last quarter.

Relegation Play-Off – Adrigole lost to Millstreet in a Replay.

Junior ‘A’ HurlingThe seven Hurling Divisions competed.

Dungourney defeated Ballymartle in Páirc Uí Rinn and Cloughduv accounted for a Castlemagner in Mourne Abbey in the semi-finals.

The Final was closely contested throughout and a draw was a fair result. Dungourney were able to find more reserves for the replay, and pulled away from Cloughduv in the second half.

Junior ‘A’ FootballAll Divisions were represented.

Bandon defeated Knocknagree in Macroom and Uibh Laoire defeated Ballyclough after a replay (first game in Dromtarriff; Replay in Mourne Abbey) in the semi-finals.

The Final was a competitive game, but Bandon eased away from their Muskerry opponents in the second half.

Junior ‘B’ Open Hurling ChampionshipA total of sixteen teams participated in this competition.

The ‘B’ Championships progressed well with both Finals played on July 24th.

Bantry Blues, Dromtarriffe, Shanballymore and Randal Óg reached the semi-finals, in which Bantry defeated Dromtarriffe at Kilmichael and Shanballymore had success over Randal Óg at Rathpeacon.

In the Final, the Avondhu team’s experience helped them defeat an improving Bantry side.

Junior ‘B’ Open Football ChampionshipA total of eighteen teams participated in this grade.

Once again the Football Championship proved to be a very open affair.

In the semi-finals, Grange overcame Ballyhooly after a replay (both games in Kilwoth), and last year’s defeated finalist’s Kilmeen accounted for Kilbrittain at Bandon.

Kilmeen proved too experienced for Grange in the Final.

Junior ‘B’ Inter-Divisional ChampionshipsThis was the first year of these competitions. The competition structure gives players from clubs whose second or third teams are participating in the Junior ‘B’ Grade an opportunity to win a county medal. These players were the only adult players in the County who heretofore were not afforded this opportunity.

The County Committee is most appreciative of the fine gestures of the Hoare and Cronin families in presenting the Trophies for the Hurling and Football Championship respectively in memory of the late Dan Hoare, former Treasurer and President of the County Committee and Jim Cronin, former Chairman of the County Committee.

Junior ‘B’ Inter-Divisional Hurling ChampionshipAll seven Hurling Divisions participated.

St Finbarrs defeated Fr O’Neills at Riverstown, and Dromtarriffe defeated Bantry Blues at Dunmanway in the semi-finals.

St Finbarr’s had a hard earned victory over Dromtarriffe in the inaugural County Final.

Junior ‘B’ Inter-Divisional Football ChampionshipAll eight Divisions participated.

Béal Átha ‘n Ghaorthaigh defeated Mitchelstown at Páirc Uí Diolúnaigh and Ballinacurra defeated Dohenys at Blarney in the semi-finals.

Béal Átha ‘n Ghaorthaigh were the inaugural winners of the County Football title with a narrow victory over Ballinacurra.

Under 21 ‘A’ HurlingAs in 2014, a late-August start date was targeted for this competition. Commitments to other championships made it difficult to get the quarter-finals played, but all were played in September.

Duhallow and Blackrock defeated Blarney (at Cloughduv) and Fr O’Neills (at Carrigtwohill) respectively in the semi-finals.

The Final was the fourth Final of the year to end in a draw. Blackrock proved too strong for a well-prepared Duhallow side in the replay, and captured their third title in this grade in four years.

Under 21 ‘A’ Football All eight Divisions were represented.

In the semi-finals, Nemo Rangers defeated Aghada at Carrigtwohill and Valley Rovers defeated Beara at Skibbereen.

The Final ended in a draw. Valley Rovers proved too strong for Nemo Rangers in the replay to win their second county title in this grade in three years.

Under 21 ‘B’ Hurling Six Divisions of the Hurling Divisions participated. Duhallow did not participate.

Watergrasshill defeated Bishopstown at Blarney, and Kilworth defeated Donoughmore at Castletownroche in the semi-finals.

The Final was a close contest, with spirited play in the second half from Watergrasshill proving the decisive factor in their victory over Kilworth.

Under 21 ‘B’ FootballAll Divisions except Beara competed in the competition.

Cill na Martra defeated Dromtarriffe at Macroom, and Kilmeen defeated Charleville at Ballyanley in the semi-finals.

Cill na Martra defeated Kilmeen in a high quality Final.

Leagues and Secondary Competitions

The Leagues for Clubs in the Senior, Premier Intermediate and Intermediate grades were organised in the same format as in 2014. There were four Divisions in Football, the Senior Hurling League and three Divisions in Intermediate Hurling.

There were a number of changes in the Junior Leagues.

The Regional Leagues played over the past number of years were dispensed with.

The Junior ‘A’ Leagues, introduced in 2014, ran much more smoothly in 2015. New ‘B’ Leagues had a good start. It is hoped that these competitions will continue to improve and expand in 2016.

The problem of finishing the County Leagues by their appointed deadline was prevalent again this year. At one stage during the year a number of Clubs had permission to play challenges games withdrawn because they had fallen so far behind in their League Programmes. All but one of these Clubs caught up by the early autumn review, only to fall behind again in the last eight weeks of the time allotted to the ordinary rounds of the Leagues.

A special word of thanks to Tracey Ní Chinnéide for her work in organising the Leagues and Secondary Competitions.

Inter County

Senior Hurling

Allianz National Hurling LeagueHaving gained promoting in the previous year, Cork played in Division 1A of the Allianz National Hurling League.

The team opened its league campaign with two good performances at home, losing narrowly to Kilkenny and scoring victory over Clare, before large crowds. The next two games resulted in excellent away wins over Dublin and Galway, before the final game of the ordinary rounds was lost to Tipperary.

Cork defeated Wexford and Dublin respectively in the quarter-final and semi-final, before being defeated by Waterford in the Final by a margin of ten points.

Munster ChampionshipCork faced Waterford again in the Munster Semi-final. It was hoped the team would reverse the disappointing League Final result. Once again the Waterford team was sharper and Cork made a rather tame exit from the Munster Championship.

All-Ireland ChampionshipThe team made a good recovery from the Munster Championship defeat with victories in the Qualifier Rounds over Wexford in Wexford Park and Clare in Thurles. The performance against Galway in the All-Ireland quarter-final was baffling in the light of the previous two games. Galway dictated the game from the beginning and were worth their margin of victory on the day.

The game brought an end to Jimmy Barry Murphy’s second spell as Manager of the Cork Senior Hurling team. He is one of the undoubted icons of Hurling in Cork and throughout Ireland. Cork have been very fortunate to have benefitted from his leadership and commitment over the past four year. During his time in charge Cork have repeatedly challenged for national honours. It is unfortunate that this time was not marked by an All-Ireland title. Thanks also to his management colleagues and backroom team who worked tirelessly for the team.

Waterford Crystal TournamentCork had victories over University of Limerick, Cork Institute of Technology and Clare. Limerick proved too strong in the Final, which was played in Mallow.

Senior Football

Allianz National Football LeagueThe ordinary rounds of the League provided Cork with four very challenging away games in Ulster. The team played some very good football and achieved two wins in Monaghan and Tyrone, a very narrow defeat in Donegal and an inconsequential loss to Derry in the final round . Three victories at home in Páirc Uí Rinn against Dublin, Mayo and Kerry saw the team head Division 1 for the second year in a row.

Page 18: Dé Domhnaigh 13ú Nollaig 2015 - Amazon Web Servicessportlomo-userupload.s3.amazonaws.com/uploaded/galleries/... · 2015. 12. 24. · 1 COMHDHÁIL BHLIANTÚIL 2015 The Annual Convention

Cork met Donegal again in the semi-final and scored a comfortable victory to qualify for the Final against Dublin.

The team was anxious to atone for a very poor performance against the same opposition in the previous year’s semi-final. Dublin, however, once again controlled the game, and won rather comfortably to take some of the gloss off Cork’s very good League campaign.

Munster ChampionshipThe team had a comfortable win against Clare in the Munster semi-final in June.

The Final against All-Ireland Champions Kerry in Killarney was a very exciting game. The team gave its best performance for a number of years, and can be considered unlucky to be held to a draw by a very late Kerry point.

The replay was a different story. The game was played in a constant downpour that made playing conditions difficult. A Kerry goal shortly before halftime changed the balance of the game. After that, the team seemed to lose the focus and intensity they had shown in the drawn game. Cork were outplayed in the second half of what was a particularly disappointing defeat.

All-Ireland ChampionshipThe team had only one week after the replay of the Munster Final to prepare for the Round 4 Qualifier game against Kildare. Cork never got to grips with Kildare’s passing game. The loss of two key players in the first 15 minutes through a Black Card and an injury did not help. There is no doubt playing championship games in successive weeks is a difficult task, yet it does not explain what was undoubtedly the team’s poorest performance of the year. The result was a very disappointing defeat.

That defeat brought to an end Brian Cuthbert’s time as Team Manager. Brian and his team of selectors did an excellent job over the past two years. His behaviour on and off the field, often in the face of extreme unwarranted personal criticism, was exemplary. He deserves great thanks and appreciation for his time and efforts.

McGrath CupPrior to the commencement of the Allianz National League, Cork participated in the McGrath Cup. The team used the competition to test a number of players who had played well in the previous year’s County Championships. Cork had good victories over Mary Immaculate College and Tipperary before being defeated by Waterford in the semi-final.

Under 21 Hurling

Munster ChampionshipCork were drawn against Waterford in the quarter-final at Páirc Uí Rinn. Waterford proved far superior to Cork on the night and won by ten points.

The timing of the game, right in the middle of the Leaving Certificate Examinations was unsatisfactory. A number of Cork players were not available for selection because the importance of the Examinations to their academic future. It would be appropriate that in the future the quarter- final fixture be scheduled after the State Examinations.

Page 19: Dé Domhnaigh 13ú Nollaig 2015 - Amazon Web Servicessportlomo-userupload.s3.amazonaws.com/uploaded/galleries/... · 2015. 12. 24. · 1 COMHDHÁIL BHLIANTÚIL 2015 The Annual Convention

Under 21 Football

Munster ChampionshipCork had a five-point win over Limerick in the quarter- final.

In the semi-final against Kerry in Páirc Uí Rinn, Cork had a very good start and built a lead that was good enough to withstand a second half Kerry comeback.

The Final against Tipperary was played in Thurles. Victory went with the home side by a single point. Cork put up a tenacious performance and could be considered unlucky not to have forced a draw or win.

Minor Hurling

Munster ChampionshipThe vagaries of the Munster Minor Hurling Championship decreed that Cork would play Limerick in the quarter-final and semi-final of the competition.

The team played very well in defeating Limerick in the quarterfinal at Pairc Ui Rinn. Limerick’s subsequent success in the play-offs meant the teams met again at the semi-final. This time the game was played in Limerick.

Cork were unfortunate to lose key players through injury for this game. The team could have built a comfortable lead but for an untypicaly high number of wides. Limerick rallied in the final quarter of the game and won by a goal.

Manager Denis Ring and his colleagues put a great deal of work into this team. They were unfortunate with injuries and the draw format of the competition. In other circumstances the team could have advanced much further. It should be noted that the Munster Council have take steps to ensure that the anomalies that occurred in this year’s draw will not arise next season.

Minor Football

Munster ChampionshipCork laboured to overcome Limerick in the quarter-final of the competition.

The win set up a semi-final against All-Ireland champions Kerry in Tralee.

The windy conditions that prevailed on the night of the game made play difficult for both teams. The scores were level at full time. It was a game that both sides might have won. Kerry got the better start in extra time, and despite a huge effort from Cork held on to win by a point.

Cork were unfortunate to meet Kerry in the one round of the Munster Championship that led to elimination from the Competition. A re-match of the two teams on the larger stage of Croke Park in the All-Ireland series could have been the highlight of the Championship.

Manager Donal O’Sullivan and his colleagues put in splendid efforts over the past two years and were most unlucky in not having gained more successful results.

Page 20: Dé Domhnaigh 13ú Nollaig 2015 - Amazon Web Servicessportlomo-userupload.s3.amazonaws.com/uploaded/galleries/... · 2015. 12. 24. · 1 COMHDHÁIL BHLIANTÚIL 2015 The Annual Convention

Leinster LeagueCork played in this competition. The games provided valuable competitive match practice.

Intermediate Hurling

Munster Championship After winning the All-Ireland title the previous year, a new team had to be formed.

Cork defeated Waterford in a high scoring Munster semi-final.

The team then put in a tremendous performance against a very strong Limerick team in the Munster Final and were rewarded with a very good win.

All-Ireland ChampionshipThis win qualified the team for the All-Ireland final against Galway. While Cork tried hard in the Final, Galway were the stronger team on the night and deserved their win.

Manager Ronan Dwane and his selectors deserve great credit for guiding Cork with a new team to a second All-Ireland Final in two years.

Junior Football

Munster ChampionshipThis team had a very disappointing year. The team struggled to overcome a well-prepared Limerick side in the semi-final.

Kerry were much too strong in the Final.

The absence of a strong representation of players from the Premier Intermediate grade on the Cork Junior Team panel is an issue that deserves examination. It is reasonable to expect that the sixteen clubs in the highest grade of club competition eligible to play on the Cork Junior Team would make-up a considerable portion of the panel.

Coach Danny Culloty stepped down at the end of the season, and both he and Selector Mick Lyons have given great service in the grade over the past number of years.

Appreciation

We thank all our players for their countless hours of preparation and commitment over the past year. As well as playing with great commitment, every player wearing the Cork jersey conducted himself in a manner that reflects well on all our membership.

We also owe a debt of gratitude to the Managers, Coaches, Selectors, Doctors, Physiotherapists and various other backroom personnel of the various teams who left no stone unturned in ensuring that all our players were as well prepared as they could possibly be when representing our County.

Congratulations to Eoin Cadigan and Paul Kerrigan on being members of the Ireland team that defeated Australia in the Compromise Rules International in Croke Park.

Calendar Year Proposal

The proposal to re-organise the playing of all competitions into a single Calendar Year is one that requires very careful attention. There are aspects of this proposal that give rise to serious concerns.

The proposal, if implemented, will affect the general organisation and development of our Games, particularly at Club level in strong dual Counties.

In this County, in any year, there will be approximately three hundred County Championship games to be played under the direct control of the County Committee. This figure does not include championship games that are played under the auspices of the eight Divisional Committees. Despite this substantial programme of Championship games, this County has never unduly deferred the playing of its County Championships to facilitate progress of our Inter-County teams.

In order to achieve our deadlines and ensure our County Champions are qualified in good time for the Provincial Championships, it is already necessary to begin our Championships in April. Earlier scheduling will clash with the National Hurling and Football Leagues.

However, the introduction of a Calendar Year will demand an earlier start to the County championships. As most Cork Clubs are essentially dual clubs this will cause major difficulties in preparing, organising and scheduling teams for both codes.

The bringing forward of dates for the All-Ireland Finals will impact down the line on the scheduling of the Provincial Championships. Two further weeks or more will be lost for Club Championship fixtures. The intensity of Inter-County Competition in July has made this a virtually closed month for Club Competition. Is June now also to be added to this problem ? Where stands Rule 6.21(a) which allows Inter-County players thirteen days free of Club Championship Games ? It is to be reasonably expected that Inter-County Team Managements will insist on this preparatory period being kept free.

The proposal will also force clashes with Third Level and State Examinations, and impact greatly on the non-senior Munster Championships which are played, for the most part, on mid-week dates in April, May and June.

It will cause some Clubs to be eliminated from the County Championships by mid summer. Essentially, Counties will be forced to play most of its Club Championships games from September onwards. This may be acceptable to some Counties with limited programmes but not suitable to Counties with extensive dual Clubs/Players to provide for.

Are the County Championships in such Counties to be run off on a blitz basis with attendant reduction in publicity time and loss of revenue ?

The financial returns of County Championships are crucial to the funding of Inter-County teams, which are not adequately funded by team expenses/grants.

The shortening of the period for our ‘shop window’ Inter-County Championships and the loss of most of September will diminish publicity and promotion of our Games. Similarly, the dispensement with Replays will adversely effect promotion, publicity and finances needed to fund our activities at all levels.

Page 22: Dé Domhnaigh 13ú Nollaig 2015 - Amazon Web Servicessportlomo-userupload.s3.amazonaws.com/uploaded/galleries/... · 2015. 12. 24. · 1 COMHDHÁIL BHLIANTÚIL 2015 The Annual Convention

20

The current playing of much of the All-Ireland Club Series in the New Year, affects few Clubs throughout the Country. We have not heard the Clubs that have been involved demand this radical change.

The playing of All-Ireland Club Finals leading into the Christmas Festive period and County Convention times is not conducive to promotion or attendances.

The giving up of a tried and tested programme of attractive All-Ireland Senior Club Finals on St. Patrick’s Day will not be beneficial to the Association.

Any ‘advantage’ being suggested does not justify the serious impact that the condensing of the Club Year will have on our Clubs and Games.

PÁIRC UÍ CHAOIMH

Demolition of the two Stands and piling work has been undertaken in relation to the Development during the past year.

There have been extensive administrative requirements attached to the Government Grant. This has included a statutory Notification by the Government for Assessment of State Aid by the European Commission.

While a new completion date of June 2nd 2017 will allow for potential major events in that year, the launching of the fund raising Long Term Ticket Schemes has been delayed as it was felt that evidence of construction is necessary to maximise their success.

During the past year the Munster Council allocated €3.75m to the Project – bringing the total available Funds to €63.75m, inclusive of the State Grant of €30m, which is subject to European Commission approval.

Subsequent to year end of 31st Octboer, An Choiste Chontae has approved expenditure in relation to the main Construction Contract subject to European Commission approval of the State Grant.

The Steering Committee has committed an enormous amount of time and energy into the Project, which has also been well served by our Design Team and Consultants.

Appreciation is also expressed of the support of local residents for the Development.

While no levies will be requested of our Clubs, their commitment to the Project in terms of support for the marketing of the Long Term Ticket Schemes will be vital.

Administrative Units

All organisations are only as strong as their individual members and units. The County is deeply grateful and appreciative of the many members who give voluntarily of their time and administrative services to the Association to the various Committees throughout the County - the County Committee itself and its various Sub-Committees, the Divisional Committees, Coiste na nÓg and its Coaching Structures and monitoring Committees, Third Level Colleges, Second Level, Sciath na Scol, Handball, Inter-Firm and Scór.

Without the considerable efforts of these committees the Association would not continue to thrive and develop throughout the County. The reports to Convention from these Committees show the good work that continues to be undertaken. It is important that Convention acknowledges and appreciates their contribution.

It is appropriate to record some notable achievements during the past year:

• The successes of our Developments Squads in the various Munster Competitions, particularly so in hurling in which Cork Squads won all seven competitions. This is an unprecedented achievement. While it is no guarantee of future success, it is just reward and a fair reflection of several years of dedicated work. Our Football Development Squads had successes at U-14, U-15 and U-16 levels.

We wish to acknowledge the work of Games Manager Kevin O’Callaghan and the GDAs in assisting the Coaches and Selectors of all our Development Squads.

• The achievement of Rochestown College in competing in both the Dr. Harty Cup and Corn Uí Mhuirí Finals. The return of this once famous bastion of Colleges Competitions to the top tier of Second Level Schools Competitions is most welcome.

This year eight Cork schools are taking part in the Dr. Harty Cup Hurling Championship, and six in the Corn Ui Mhuirí Football Championship. We acknowledge the amount of time and effort the pupils and teachers are putting into these competitions. It is particularly good to see Christian Brother College return to the Dr. Harty Cup after a 97 year absence.

• Congratulations to the Cork Camogie team on wining a second successive All-Ireland title. Retaining a title is never easy; to retain it after losing several key players through retirement is an extraordinary achievement.

• The Cork Ladies Footballers won their 10th All-Ireland Senior Title in eleven years when they defeated Dublin 0-12 to 0-10. The team was voted Ireland’s Team of the Year in 2014 for their stirring comeback in that year’s final. They continue to play a highly skilful and attractive brand of Football, and have reaped all the success their hard work and dedication deserves.

• There is great credit due to the 1990 All-Ireland Double Jubilee Organising Committee who organised a marvellous luncheon at the Rochestown Park Hotel in August. The event attracted 600 people, and took just six weeks to organise. The Jamie Wall and Des Fitzgerald Funds, two young men who have experienced life-changing injuries over the past two years, were beneficiaries of monies raised.

• The Clubs who organised Cúl Camps throughout the summer months. Nationally the Child participation in Cúl Camps was 102,384 children. This is up 15% on 2015. Over 13,000 children took part in the Cork Cúl Camps, up 25% on 2014 levels. There was 1,100 Cúl Camps held throughout Ireland last summer. Cork accounted for 110 or 10% of these. Noel Crowley did a tremendous job as Cúl Camp co-ordinator.

Strategic Review This year saw the termination of the 2010 – 2015 Strategic Review Plan. When this Review was first proposed in 2009, it was felt that a five-year plan was necessary to achieve the large volume of work that was proposed at that time. Considerable elements of the plan were implemented and progress made, albeit that the objectives were not fully achieved.  In line with National Policy the next Strategic Plan will be more specific in its aims and cover a shorter time frame, 2016 to 2018. A sub-committee under the chairmanship of Oifigeach Forbartha, Micheál Ó Broin, has been working on the Plan since last May.  The areas covered by this Plan will include Games, Finance, Governance and Structures, Co-operation with the Gaelic Games family and Communications. Proposals will be put to the County Committee for consideration next spring.

Handball

The past year was another very successful one for Handball in Cork with Cork players performing exceptionally well in International, National and Provincial competitions.

Four gold medals were won at the World Championships in Calgary, Canada, in August.

Cork players won 12 All-Ireland titles, with one player, Catriona Casey, winning four of the five Senior Ladies titles. There were a number of notable successes at under-age level also, the highlight being the defeat of Kilkenny in the U14/15 Inter-county team championship.

The past year was the first full year of work for the new Coaching Committee who are tasked with the development of skills for underage boys and girls. Allied to this, is the continued support of the Clubs for the Board’s Leagues and Tournaments, which ensures there are plenty of opportunities for our Handball players to play and develop their skills.

Scór

The Scór Committee continues to foster and promote our language, song, dance and culture. The Scór programme is intense from November to March and it could not be completed without the help and support of many volunteers who act as judges, mentors, quizmasters, the parents who transport children to Scór na bPáistí and Scor na nÓg and the clubs who make their facilities available for competitions.  Bothar Buí were the winners this year of the Paddy Carroll Cup, for the most successful Club across all three Scór Grades.  The Club was also successful in the Munster Championships with victories in Rince Set in Scór Sinsear and in Bailéad Grúpa in Scór na nÓg.

Page 25: Dé Domhnaigh 13ú Nollaig 2015 - Amazon Web Servicessportlomo-userupload.s3.amazonaws.com/uploaded/galleries/... · 2015. 12. 24. · 1 COMHDHÁIL BHLIANTÚIL 2015 The Annual Convention

23

It was decided that this year’s Tráth na gCeist Bord Sinsear would be a fund raiser for the Jamie Wall Fund. It was a very successful event with Millstreet going forward to represent Cork in the All-Ireland event. Aghabullogue won the Scór na nÓg Tráth na gCeist for the second year in a row.  This year also saw the inaugural Campa Samhraidh. The five-day Cul Camp format event, organised through the medium of Irish, was held at the Blackrock Club. Gael-Taca were our partners in this venture. It is hoped to roll out more such events in 2016.

Refereeing

The level of recruitment of referees has been very good over the past few years. It is refreshing to see many new names refereeing finals and semi-finals over the year. Generally, the standard of refereeing has been very good. We had five County Final replays this year. It is testament to the quality of our referees that change of referees from the drawn games to the replays was seamless and unnoticeable.

This was Gearóid Ó h-Urdail’s first year in the role of Referees’ Administrator. He has settled in to the job well. He has brought all the experience he gained during his years of refereeing to the role and has made a valuable contribution to the Competitions Control Committee.

Congratulations to the Cork referees who officiated at Inter County games during the year: -

Kevin Murphy who refereed the Munster Minor Football Championship Final; Joe Larkin who referred the Munster Minor Hurling Championship Final; and Diarmuid Kirwin who referred the Munster Senior Club Hurling Final.

Cork G.A.A. Clubs Draw

The Draw Committee under the chairmanship of Treasurer Piarais Ó Murchú once again did trojan work in organising and promoting the Clubs’ draw. Having visited every club in Cork during 2014, the committee members revisited most clubs again in 2015. As a result the increase in membership experienced in 2014/15 Draw has been upheld for the 2015/16 series.

We were very privileged to have Uachtarán Cumann LuthChleas Gael, Aogán Ó Fearghaill present at the launch of the 2015/16 Draw. This year’s Draw was launched at the excellent premises of Baile an Easpaig.

A sincere vote of thanks to the Draw Committee of Piarais O Murchú, Mairtín Ó Buacháin, Risteard Ó Murchú, Niall Ó Catháin, Proinnsías O Coileáin and Diarmuid Ó Donnabháin, whose efforts have ensured that the Draw continues be a major contributor to our finances.

The Draw is now and will continue to be a major fundraising vehicle for our Clubs, for Coaching Programmes, Stadium Development and other projects of the County Committee. It is vital that Clubs continue to support it, and that the membership increases over the coming years.

Sponsorship

Two very important sponsorships contracts came to a finish in 2015. Chill Insurance has completed the third and final year of its current sponsorship of the Cork Inter County teams. Similarly, O’Neills Sports completed its sponsorship agreement. .

It was very gratifying to find that these National Brands have agreed to renew their sponsorship for a further three years.

Lucozade Sport entered into a new three year contract, while Heineken Ireland has continued with its sponsorship.

These sponsorships represent a vote of confidence in our teams’ abilities to perform on the National Stage.

We are very appreciative of all this valuable support

We also acknowledge the support of RedFM and the Rochestown Park Hotel who are the sponsors of the Senior Hurling League and the Division 1 (Kelleher Shield) Football League respectively.

We would sincerely welcome a sponsor for the County Championships. In the year gone by there were almost three hundred championship games played, across the County, in all grades. Clubs representing every parish in the County participated in these Championships.

The admission prices to County Championship games has not increased for almost a decade. It is becoming increasingly difficult to generate sufficient funds needed to keep the Board’s finances in a healthy state.

The returns from Investments that have supplemented the Board’s finances over a number of years are no longer available. Annual losses in mormal revenue cannot continue indefinitely. Sooner rather than later action will have to be taken to ensure the Board does not incur accounts deficits on an annual basis.

Communications

The Cork GAA Year was published again this year and has been available since early December.

Our website, Facebook pages and Twitter feed continue to grow in use, and have become vitally important tools in terms of communication of events and results to our members and supporters.

The Board’s digital communications has proved to be an incredibly useful tool of informing the membership of what is going on. The dissemination of fixtures and results however is only one aspect of communications.

We are less successful at reaching those who are not active supporters. The next target in this respect is for clubs to heighten communications and awareness of their own activities within their catchment areas. While the Oifigeach Poiblíochta has a role to play in this, the primary duty lies with each club.

It is vital for the maintenance of the profile of Cork G.A.A. that every club continuously embraces all forms of communication, from notice boards to posters and from print and electronic media to maintain and develop its links within the community it serves.

1916 - 2016 During the past year the Cork Patriot Thomas Kent was reinterred and laid to rest in his native Castlelyons. It was indeed appropriate that this heroic man, who gave his life for his Country should be accorded a State Funeral.

An Cathaoirleach, Oifigeach Gaeilge agus Cultúir and An Rúnaí were privileged to have been invited to the Event that honoured the memory of a man who was also a member of our Association through his then local Club Dun Guairne.

It was an auspicious and dignified ceremony. The splendid decoration of the village of Castlelyons for the occasion was a credit to the local people who fittingly honoured their local patriot.

It is the intention of the County Committee to participate in the Centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising Celebrations. Sunday 26th April is the date selected for the national celebrations in Croke Park. A sub-committee chaired by Oifigeach agus Cultuir Gaeilge, Ciarán Mac Cana, is currently working on a programme of events that will afford our County and Clubs opportunities to mark this Anniversary of the most significant historic event in the history of our Country.  It is hoped to hold a special event for all Cork Clubs to coincide with Lá na gClubanna on May 8th.  Among the initiatives been considered are a music and cultural event. The passing of Uachtarán of Coiste Chontae Chorcaí, Donal de hÓr last January was a low point of the Committee’s year. He was appointed Uachtarán at last December’s Comhdáil Bhliantúil. At the time of his appointment he spoke of how he was looking forward to his three years in office and how he hoped that the re-construction of Pairc Uí Chaoímh would be the highlight.

Donal de hÓr was a lifelong and devoted member of the Naomh Caitríonaigh Club and joined the Executive of Coiste Chontae Chorcaí in 1971. He gave nine years of outstanding service as County Treasurer and four years in that Office at Munster Council. A highlight of his time as Cisteóir in Cork was the purchase of Flower Lodge – now Pairc Uí Rinn.

He was a great-hearted man of great wit who gave willingly of his time to his Club and County and Province. He is a great loss to his family, the Association and his large circle of friends.

Seamus Ó Cronín who served as Cathaoirleach of Coiste Chontae Chorcaí between 2000 and 2002 passed away in April.

He became a member of the County Committee, representing his Club Sráid a’ Muillinn, in 1964. He was a most highly regarded member of the Board and an absolute gentleman. He served as PRO, Leas-Cathaoirleach and Cathaoirleach. He also gave sterling service to the Association at Comhairle na Mumhan and National Levels.

Apart from his contribution as an administrator, Seamus Ó Cronín made an immense contribution to the chronicling of the History of the GAA in Cork and Munster through his many books. These included a history of his Club, Millstreet, Cork GAA 1886-1986, ‘A Rebel 100’ , Munster GAA Vols, 1 and 2, ‘Ballads of Cork GAA’ and ‘Making Connections’. His Family, friends and the Association will sadly miss him.

Four members of the County Committee have passed on to their eternal rewards during the year.

Willie Horgan represented Na Briain Diolúnaigh. He gave sterling service to his Club, Division and County. He took up refereeing in the City Bórd na nÓg and progressed to take charge of an All-Ireland Senior Hurling in 1991. Nationally, he also Refereed the All-Ireland Minor finals of 1982 and 1989. At Munster level he refereed the Under-21 Finals of 1984, 1985 and 1986, the 1982 and 1983 Minor Finals and the 1986 and 1988 Club Senior Hurling Finals. At Cork championship level, he refereed the 1976 Senior Hurling final between Glen Rovers and Blackrock and the 1982 Senior final between Erins Own and Na Piarsaigh.

Michael Downing, was a member of Coiste Chontae Chorcaí for Teampall Geal. Michael served as Chairman of the Club and he was a key driving force behind the Club for over 50 years. Whitechurch benefitted greatly from his vision, work ethic and infectious positive spirit.

Maurice Cashman was a delegate for Ath Fhada since 1990. He was an active member of the club since the early 1950s. He acted as Club Chairman and in other officer roles over the years and was President and Trustee at the time of his death. He also served as Chairman of the Cork Junior Football Selection Committee that won the All-Ireland title in 1990.

Finbarr Cronin represented An Pasáiste Thiar. He became a very active member of the Passage Club in the 1980s. He was never found wanting when it came to promoting the ideals of his Club or County. Finbarr had a passionate love of our Games and especially for Hurling and was an outstanding supporter of our Inter-County teams.

A number of former outstanding former Inter-County players passed away:

St. Finbarrs stalwart, Charlie Cullinane played for Cork in the 1970 All Ireland Final defeated Wexford. He also won an All Ireland Club championship medal in 1974, as well as a Railway Cup winners medal with Munster and National Hurling League medals in 1969 and 1970.

Donal (Doney) O’Sullivan of Glen Rovers and St. Nicholas was an All-Ireland Senior Hurling medal winner in 1954, and an All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship medalist in 1947. He lived in Dublin for many years but he never lost interest in the affairs of his Club and County.

Michael Burns of Gleann Bhearracháin was an outstanding footballer with Cork and Castlehaven at Minor, U21 and Senior levels. He was member of the 1989 All-Ireland winning Senior panel, and also won National Football League and Munster Football championship medals that year.

J.J. Hinchion played with the Canovee club for many years. An outstanding footballer, he starred with Cork in the ‘50’s, winning a National Football League medal in 1956 and played in the All-Ireland Football final of 1957.

Florrie O’Mahony was an All-Ireland Minor Hurling medalist in 1951, played in Munster Senior Championship and won a County Senior Hurling Championship medal with Blackrock. He also gave outstanding service to Coaching.

The tragic accidental death of Peter Downey occasioned great sorrow. Peter gave great service to this county as an efficient and accomlished referee and was a dedicated member of Inniscarra club.

We record too the recent sad passing of Noirín Tempany, daughter of the late Padraigh Ó Caoimh – a lady who always had a great loyalty to and love of the G.A.A.in Cork.

Sadly many other outstanding clubmen and women who rendered sterling service locally passed away during the year. We express our sympathy to all their families.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for them and all deceased members at 1.30 p.m. at Arus Raonuithe Nemo on the day of Convention.

APPRECIATION/ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I wish to record sincere appreciation of:

- the sustained cooperation and support of my colleagues on the Management and Competitions Control Committee, of Divisional Committees, Rebel Óg and Clubs;

- the good will and magnificent support of the Officials of Central and Provincial Councils;- the extraordinary contribution to the County Committee’s activities of our esteemed Cisteoir

Piarais Ó Murchú;- the very dedicated work and contributions of our Senior Administrator Diarmuid, Mairéad and

Barbara (in Main Office), Caitriona and Norma (Draw Office) and Claire (SES/Information Office);- Tommy Lynch and his staff and Contractor Stephen Forrest for their splendid upkeep of our

Grounds.- the splendid voluntary work of Events/Safety Controllers and Stewards at Páirc Uí Rinn which

contributed greatly to the most successful operation of the Stadium in a most demanding year;- the voluntary service provided by members, especially in All-Ireland ticket Issue; - the valuable contribution made to the promotion of our Games by the Media in Print, TV and

Radio.

Following the sad loss of our Uachtarán Dónal de hÓr, our former Cathaoirleach and Iar Uachtarán CLCG, Críostóir Ó Cuana, was appointed Uachtarán of Coiste Chontae Chorcaí. We are indeed very fortunate to have a man of such experience and standing within the Association to be available to take on this role. He is highly deserving of the honour.

A number of our Officers have completed their terms and I wish to extend congratulations to them on the splendid contributions they have made.

Oifigeach Gaeilge agus Cultúir, Ciarán Mac Cana has completed his three-year term. During his term he worked tirelessly for the Scór competitions and organised an introduction to Hurling and Football days as part of the Social Integration Programme. This year he was instrumental in holding the County’s first ever Campa Samhraid – a Cúl Camp trí Ghaeilge. As Cathaoirleach of the 1916-2016 Committee he has led the preparations for the County Committee’s commemorative plans for the 1916 Centenary.

Micheál O Broin Oifigeach Forbartha, is retiring after two very successful years. Apart from his work in overseeing Development Projects/Grants, he has held some very informative seminars and workshops on the Role of Club Officers, Health and Safety regulations and Pitch repair and maintenance. He is stepping down for personal and work commitments. He has been a very valuable member of the Executive over the past number of years. It is hoped his sabbatical will be a short one and he will be back to continue his great work in the not too distant future.

Éamonn Ó Foiréis is stepping down as Oifigeach Poiblíochta after one year due to personal commitments. His year was marked by the very professional manner in which he conducted his duties. He has brought our electronic media outlets to record levels of participation. His work as PRO and with Coiste na nÓg before that is greatly appreciated. No doubt he will continue to contribute well to GAA affairs in Cork.

Two members of our Executive, Donal Ó Murnáin (Divisions) and Seamus Ó hÁinle (Junior Clubs) are also finishing their terms this year. Both men have carried out their duties and responsibilities to the highest standards and their contributions to the Executive in all matters has been invaluable.

Seo é mo thuairsc ar son bhliain 2015 don Chomhdháil,

It is my privilege to put before our Annual Convention my report and observations on 2015.

The past year can go down as one of the busiest ever for our clubs. Following the introduction of the new Junior ‘B’ Hurling and Football championships for Divisional winners, our total number of Championships is now 16.

These Championships reflect the high level of interest, and diversity of standards, that exists in our clubs and across our county. The Championships produced 16 different winners, with four finals going to replays. The deadline for finishing County Finals is October 31st. Thirteen Championships were completed, and 17 finals (including replays) were played by that deadline. Two more, the Junior ‘B’ Divisional Finals were played on Sunday November 1st, and the Under-21 ‘A’ Hurling final was played on November 8th with the replay on November 13th.

The failure to complete the Under-21 ‘A’ Hurling Championship on time was particularly frustrating. The commitments of Divisional winners to other Championships, as well as poor weather, meant it took 10 weeks to play the eight games (including two replays).

A similar situation arose with the Under 21 ‘A’ Football drawn and replayed finals. The Final was originally fixed for July 11th; it was not played until August 14th (the Munster Football final replay forced a postponement). The game was a draw, and replay took place on September 25th. These two competitions cause issues almost every year.

Once again, thanks to the many clubs who made their venues available for fixtures during the year, particularly those clubs who obliged at short notice when the original fixture plan went awry. The Oifigeach Forbartha has made it clear to all clubs that wish to have their venues considered for fixtures in 2016 and beyond, they must submit a safety statement to the office before next year’s Championship Programme begins.

On the topic of the 2016 Championship Programme, our Championship formats will be different next year. There was an consultative process undertaken by the Competition Control Committee prior to drawing up of these new formats. These meetings were both informative and imaginative. The wide range of opinions expressed shows there is a real interest in ensuring our competitions are meaningful to players, members and spectators.

The consensus of opinion that emerged from the consultative process was our Championships needed a fresh impetus. The new format should provide this. The proposed new two-weekend break in July is a welcome addition to the programme. It should dramatically reduce the requests for postponements, particularly in the later part of the year.

Away from the playing fields, there are many duties and obligations to be carried out by club committees. I wish to highlight two aspects of administration that caused some confusion earlier this year.

All clubs must have their Player Injury Fund contribution paid before April 1st each year. Despite several reminders by email and at

Board meetings, a number of clubs failed to meet the deadline. These clubs were unable to play games, or train, from the April 1st until their Injury Fund payments were brought up to date. The consequences for not making the April 1st deadline could be financially devastating for a club and its players. It is important that all clubs meet their responsibilities by the April 1st deadline in 2016.

The other area of concern is that of membership registration. There was a national focus on membership registration this year. Many clubs have tidied up their membership registration however, there is still some work to be carried out in this area. It is important to remember only members who are registered by April 1st are entitled to vote at a subsequent

club AGM, or EGM.

Finally, I had a great deal of interaction and correspondences from Divisional and Club Secretaries as well as other Club officers during the year. I wish to thank them all for their efficiency and courtesy. A number of Divisional Secretaries are finishing their term of office. They have been a great help to me over the past two years and I wish them well in the future. I trust their knowledge and enthusiasm will not be lost to the Association. I look forward to working with everyone in 2016 in what should be another very busy, and hopefully successful year.

Tá sé mar aidhm ag Cumann Lúthchleas Gael tacaíocht bheo don Gaeilge, rincí, ceol, amhránaíocht trádisiúnta na hÉireann, agus do gnéithe eile den Ghaelsaíocht. Codhóidh sé eolas ar na hidéil náisiúnta agus dúil iontu i Muintir na hÉireann agus cuideoidh sé i gcur chun cinn meon na comharaíochta trína chuid clubanna

Tá an tOifigeach Ghaeilge agus Chultúir ana-thábhachtach don Chlub. Ach ní mar sin

atá an scéal i gcónaí mar tá a lán clubanna gan Oifigeach Ghaeilge agus Chultúir.

Iarraim ar gach club Oifigeach Ghaeilge agus Chultúir a cheapadh. Meallfaidh an cur

chun cinn seo daoine gan suim acu i spórt ach go mbeidh a gcion féin le déanamh acu.

Scoláireachtaí Gaeltachta.

Seoladh scéim scoilearachta ag Comhairle na Mumhan i Caisleán na Carraige Duibhe

ar an aonú lá déag de Bhealtaine i mbliana agus léiríodh suim ana-mhór inti. Bhí trí crinniú agam i mbliana le Caoimhín O Drisceoil, Runaí, Coláiste na Mumhan mar gheall Scoláireachtaí Gaeltachta. Bhí céad caoga Scoláireacht ar fáil i mbliana ó Chomhairle na Mumhan. Ach d’fhreastail céad seasca scoláirí ar na gcúrsaí Samhraidh ag Coláiste na Mumhan, Baile Atha’n Ghaorthaidh agus bhí na figiúrí ar fheabhas ar fad i mbliana. Tá an-bhuíochas ag dul chuig Caoimhín, Muintir an Choláiste agus gach éinne eile lámh Cúnta chun an scéim a riaradh agus a eagrú

Scholarships to the Gaeltacht at Coláiste na Mumhan are available to students between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age, who are active members of their clubs. The Scholarship reduces the prices of the three-week course (Cúrsa A) by €180 and the two-week course (Cúrsa B) by €120. Please be advised that these scholarships are provided on a first come first served basis.

Campa Samhraidh – Coiste Contae Chorcaí comhpháirteach le Gael Taca

Thionóil CLCG, Coiste Chontae Chorcaí Campa Samhraidh i mbliana i gCumann na Carraige Duibhe. Bhíomar comhpháirteach le Gael – Taca agus ba é seo an chéad champa iomána agus camógaíochta riamh trí mheán na Gaeilge a chuir CLCG ar siúl i gCorcaigh. Bhí an Campa ar siúl ar feadh cúig lá agus chuir an coiste uile-Éireann Foras na Gaeilge an maoiniú ar fáil. Ba ón gcathair agus ón gcontae do na cumainn a ghlac páirt.

Ba é cuspóir an Champa an Ghaeilge a bheith á húsáid in ár gcluichí. Reachtáladh na seisiúin oiliúna trí Ghaeilge agus caitheadh cuid de gach maidin i mbun ranganna comhráidh agus ag foghlaim an fhoclóir Gaeilge a bhain leis na cluichí gaelacha. Thug Seán Óg Ó hAilpín cuairt ar an gCampa ar an lá deirneach, labhair sé leis na himreoirí óga agus thug mórán leideanna dóibh maidir le traenáil agus leis an saol. Thagair sé do thábhacht na Gaeilge agus ar an bpríbhléid a bhí againn ár dteanga féin a bheith againn.

De bharr a fheabhas is a d’éirigh le tionscnamh so an Champa ina chéad bhliain ar an bhfód, tá CLCG agus Gael-Taca i gcomhar le Foras na Gaeilge ag féachaint anois leis an gCampa Lán-Ghaeilge Iomána agus Camógaíochta a chur ar bun arís an bhliain seo chugainn.

Is mian linn buíochas a ghabháil le Cumann na Carraige Duibhe as tailte imeartha agus seomra cruinnithe a chur ar fáil, le Áine Ní Éalaí, Gael-Taca agus le Pól Ruiséal, Oifigeach Gaeilge Chumann na Carraige Duibhe, a thug an-chabhair dúinn ar fad. Gabhaimid buíochas leis lenár mbeirt oiliúnóirí Colm de Barra agus Cormac Ó Conchúir.

Scór

Is mian le Scór a bheith dílis do mhianta Chumann Lúthchleas Gael agus tacaíocht bheo a thabhairt do rincí, ceol agus amhránaíocht Thraidisiúnta na hÉireann agus do na gnéithe eile a bhaineann lenár gcultúr dúchasach. Déantar sin trí chomórtais éagsúla ar ard-chaighdeán a reachtáil ag leibhéil ógánaigh agus dhaoine fásta, comórtais a spreagfadh páirtíocht, uileghabhálacht agus as a mbainfeadh siad siúd a bheadh páirteach iontu lánsásamh. Úsáidfear an Ghaeilge chun cur leis na himeachtaí sin agus maisiú a dhéanamh orthu. Cothóidh sé eolas ar na hidéil náisiúnta agus dúil iontu trína chuid clubanna, sa bhaile

agus i gcéin, a chabhródh chun misneach a mhúscailt sa phobal.

Níl Scór ag gach Club agus tá gá le dul ar aghaidh i cúpla Ranna . D’éirigh thar barr le Scór na bPáistí arís i mbliana agus bhí an caighdeán ard i ngach Roinn. Tá obair mhór agus tacaíocht ag teastáil ó na clubanna chun Scór na nÓg agus Scór na Sinsear a eagrú.

I would appreciate if all clubs in line with the Scór Mission Statement as set out above would foster our music, song and culture and assist in promoting a community spirit through their Clubs.

Tá Coiste Scór Chorcaí ag obair go crua chun Scór a chur cun cinn. Ba mhaith liom bhuíochas a ghabháil le Coistí Scór ar fud an Chontae a d’eagraigh na comórtais, gan dearmad a dhéanamh ar na hiomaitheoirí, tuismitheoirí, múinteoirí, teagascóirí, moltóirí, fir agus mná tí, máistrí tráthanna na gceist, agus gach éinne a thug tacaíocht dom i rith na bliana. Molaim sibh go léir. Ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas a ghabháil le gach éinne a thug tacaíocht dom i mbliana.

Tráth na gCeisteanna Boird.

The Tráth na gCeisteanna Boird Scór competition is relatively new and the 2014/15 competition was held in the Éire Óg GAA Pavilion year in the Tráth na gCeist competition. This was changed to Tráth na gCeisteanna Boird (Table Quiz) for Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsir and open to all clubs in the county.

Tráth na gCeisteanna Scór Sinsir was held at the Éire Óg Pavilion and it was a cracker. There were thirty four

teams and this was the second year of the new style competition. Millstreet were narrow winners with Aghabullogue and Cullen on the tiebreak for second place. The night was used as a fundraiser for the Jamie Wall Fund and yielded €1,350.00 which was presented to Jamie on the 14th July at Páirc Uí Rinn. We wish to sincerely thank thirty six Clubs who took part on the night. It was noteworthy that Cathaoirleach CLCG Coiste Contae Chorcaí took part in the competition with Fanaithe na Bride. Also a sincere thanks to Pearse Murphy, an Cisteoir, and all our helpers on the night.

Milstreet represented Cork in the All-Ireland Finals in the City West, Dublin where the Churchill Club of Kerry won the title.

The Scór na nÓg Table Quiz was also held in the Éire Óg Pavilion with a reasonable number of teams on the night and Aghabullogue were the winners for the second year in a row. They went on to represent us in the All-Ireland Finals and did very well.

Rebel Óg Coaching Benchmarks 2020

Best practice coaching structures for successful clubs in Cork

Rebel Óg Coaching Benchmarks 2020 were launched in early 2015 and provide a template for best practice in coaching, promoting maximum participation and optimal playing standards in juvenile clubs throughout Cork city and county. The programme includes minimum requirements for entry, with subsequent progression to Bronze, Silver or Gold targets, which clubs would strive to achieve with the assistance of their local GDA. Bronze criteria are based on establishing a primary school coaching and games programme in schools within a club’s catchment area. Silver criteria are based on an appropriate programme of club coaching and games for 5-12 year olds, while Gold criteria are based on appropriate coaching and games for 13-18 year olds. The programme in each club will be overseen by the local GDA.

While some higher-end targets are challenging, entry to the scheme at Bronze level is a realistic target for all clubs in the Cork. Targets must be retained on an annual basis and clubs can progress along the spectrum of

Page 45: Dé Domhnaigh 13ú Nollaig 2015 - Amazon Web Servicessportlomo-userupload.s3.amazonaws.com/uploaded/galleries/... · 2015. 12. 24. · 1 COMHDHÁIL BHLIANTÚIL 2015 The Annual Convention

43

targets from year to year. Thus a progressive coaching pathway for clubs is incorporated, with optional elements also listed for clubs who wish to strive for even higher standards. Clubs who do not wish to enter the programme will retain access to all individual elements of the programme, such as Monster blitzes or coaching courses, however, GDA priority will be given to clubs who are implementing an integrated club coaching plan under the programme. The minimum requirements for entry include some essential club structures for the implementation of any coaching plan. Also, a requirement for all clubs to host a Kellogg’s Cúl Camp is included. We are currently examining submissions for 2015 and clubs will be informed of their success or otherwise in the next month.

Rebel Óg Academy

A hectic day on the last Saturday in August, brought the curtain down on this season’s programme for all Rebel Óg Academy teams / Cork Development Squads. This season, the third year of the new programme, saw further progress, with increased cohesion between all parties and with more players than ever involved. While the hurling teams took the spotlight on Saturday, with a stunning clean sweep of all seven Munster and All Ireland hurling tournaments from U14 to U17 (winning all 24 matches), it is appropriate to recognise the huge volume of work completed by Academy coaches and players over the past twelve months, in both football and hurling.

This work began in autumn 2014 at both regional and county level with over one thousand players and one hundred coaches involved, before the formation of the summer panels in May, when three hundred and fifty players and sixty mentors were incorporated in the Rebel Óg squads at county level.

As of today, all county panels are now disbanded and players have recently assembled with their counterparts at regional level. This is to ensure that players not selected this summer are given every chance to gain selection for next year and to make sure that no players become “institutionalised” as “county players” which we think would be unhealthy for any young boy. Therefore, all players started off on an even footing when the regional panels were reformed in late October and the door re-opened for the late developers. Eight centres are currently hosting physical development programmes for regional panels at U15 and U16 levels. This programme is being implemented by students from the School of Education, Sports Studies and Physical Education Department under the guidance of Wesley O’Brien, in conjunction with the Mardyke Arena. Meanwhile, over 400 U14 players are also meeting at regional level for skills and physical coaching.

Finally, a word of thanks to all those involved in coaching at any level and especially to our full-time staff namely, Kevin O’Callaghan, Paudie O’Brien, Noel Crowley, James McCarthy, Sean Crowley, Colm Crowley, Shane Supple and Pat Spratt. It has been a pleasure to serve the county in various roles for the past year and seeing the desire for further progress on my tour of divisions in the spring and especially during the recent strategic planning consultation meetings leaves me in no doubt that bright times lie ahead for our club, school and county teams if the appropriate structures continue to harness the contribution of the volunteer.

Mise le meas,

Caoimhín Ó Donnabháin,

Oifigeach Oiliúna.

Michael Byrne addressed the clubs on Pre-AGM planning. A PowerPoint presentation was given on the requirements for convening and conducting a Club Annual General Meeting.

It is imperative that each club has an up to date Health & Safety Statement. It identifies potential risks within the club and its facilities and ensures measures are in place to reduce incidents occurring. It is mandatory for clubs applying for Munster Council grants to have a Safety Statement. The CCC of the County Board have approved a recommendation from the Planning, Physical Development & Safety Committee that clubs wishing to host County Championship games in 2016 will have to submit a current Health & Safety Statement.

all the clubs that sent representatives to the various information days. The Club Officer Information night in March had 110 clubs represented. 50 clubs attended the Registrar Tutorial, 75 clubs attended the Pitch Maintenance information day and 54 clubs attended the Health & Safety plus Pre-AGM Information evenings. Unfortunately many of the clubs that would have benefited from the various information days

did not attend any of the organised events. As events were organised at regional locations as well as in Cork City, there was ample opportunity for clubs to attend. Information days are an excellent opportunity for clubs to share experiences and concerns and receive advice from their peers as well as from individuals with experience and expertise. I encourage all clubs to send representatives to future information events.

The National Officer Development Committee are presently compiling a new Officer Training module and Jim Hanley, Bere Island and John Quirke, Blarney are being trained to deliver the Officer Training to the clubs of the County.

Further information on Club Officer training can be found in the clubzone section of www.gaa.ie

Strategic Development Plans

Congratulations to Rathpeacon and Midleton GAA Clubs who launched their five year Strategic Development Plans in 2015.

A number of Clubs have held the workshop stage of Club Planning and will be publishing their plans in the near future. A number of other clubs are in the process of formulating Steering Committees with a view to commencing the process in the near future.

I visited every Division in the county in 2015 and gave a presentation to clubs on the benefits of implementing a Strategic Development Plan. I would still encourage clubs to consider formulating a plan in the coming year. It is your plan, devised by you and will benefit your club in the long term. Club Strategic Development Plans examine Coaching & Games Development as well as Clubs Structures & Administration, Finance & Fundraising, Facilities & Development and Communications/PR & Culture.

Many thanks to Diarmaid Gowan, Jim Hanley and John Quirke for acting as Facilitators to clubs in the past year.

The Cork County Strategic Vision & Action Plan 2010-15 has now come to a conclusion and a Steering Committee has been established by Coiste Bainisti to formulate a new Plan for 2016-18. The areas of Games Development, Communications, Club Structures & Integration, Finance and Governance are being examined by various Focus Groups. Many thanks to all those who have volunteered to be members of those Focus Groups and the work they have undertaken to date is greatly appreciated.

Consultation meetings have already commenced along with an online survey. All members of the GAA in the county are encouraged to partake in the consultation process. This is the opportunity for the membership of the association in the county to assist with formulating goals to be achieved by the county in the next three years.

Development Grants

There is great credit due to the clubs of the county for undertaking various forms of development work in the past year and planning development work to be undertaken in the year ahead.

Congratulations to the 37 Clubs from Cork that have been awarded funding under the Sports Capital Programme 2015 and best of luck to them as they undertake various development projects which will benefit their players, members and local community.

34 Clubs from the County received Munster Council grants in 2014 totalling €294,662 for development work completed in 2013. 43 clubs have applied for grants for 2015 and hopefully will be successful with their applications for funding.

I wish to pay tribute to the work undertaken by Diarmaid Gowan, Munster Council delegate in assisting clubs with their applications for the 2015 grants. Diarmaid offered to meet clubs in advance of submitting their applications and also carried out the majority of the site inspections. Thanks must also go to Marc Sheehan, Cork’s other Munster Council delegate plus Noel O’Callaghan for their assistance with the process.

The Munster Council must be commended for providing approximately €500,000 to the clubs of the province each year for Club physical development work. This funding along with the funding from Croke Park is essential revenue for clubs who are working tirelessly to maintain and improve their facilities. The clubs of Cork should be very proud of the excellent facilities that they provide for their members. A special word of thanks to the volunteers who maintain the facilities on a daily basis.

Redevelopment of Pairc Ui Chaoimh

The redevelopment of Pairc Ui Chaoimh is well underway and a completion date of June 2nd. 2017 has been set. The redevelopment work will be a major economic boost for the city of Cork. It will also be a major source of employment for local workforce. Upon completion, Pairc Ui Chaoimh will be a stadium to be proud of both within the GAA and for Cork City.

The Steering Committee of Ger Lane, Christy Cooney, Frank Murphy and Pearse Murphy under the chairmanship of Bob Ryan have worked tirelessly to bring the project to where it is today. Each of the committee members should be commended for their efforts. In particular the contribution of the Ruaní, Frank Murphy to the process has been invaluable. I also wish to acknowledge the contribution and expertise of Seamus Kelly of Malachy Walsh & Partners, to the process. I wish the Steering Committee well as the important building phase commences and look forward to visiting the stadium upon completion.

Deed of Trust/Vesting

Clubs should ensure their Deed of Trust is up to date and where possible the property should be vested in the Association. Having a property vested in the Association provides protection to the trustees when applying for bank borrowings.

Clubs are reminded to seek approval from the County Board for any borrowings undertaken. Dependant on the level of total borrowings, a club may require approval from the Munster Council or Croke Park to undertake a borrowing. Approval must also be sought for acquisition or sale of property.

Minor Hurling Liaison Officer

I wish to pay tribute to the panel of players, management and backroom team involved with the Cork Minor Hurling Team in 2015. The professional approach taken by this group of amateurs in its preparation for the championship was second to none. As Liaison Officer I was fortunate to see the work being undertaken first hand.

The Management Team of Denis Ring, John O’Dwyer, Liam Martin, John Mortell and Pat Hartnett and Richie O’Leary, Physical Trainer left no stone unturned in its preparation of the panel of players. The panel of players responded with a massive effort in training and their performance against Limerick in the first round of the championship at Pairc Ui Rinn, coming from behind at half time to win so comprehensively left the county dreaming of Munster and All Ireland success. The subsequent unfortunate injury to captain Shane Kingston was a major blow to the player himself and to the county. The Munster semi-final against Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds was very disappointing as the players didn’t play to their full potential on the night. But there are many talented players amongst the panel who with mentoring and development will wear the Cork jersey at Under 21 and adult level in years to come.

I wish the Management Team and the panel of players the very best of luck in 2016 and we can be guaranteed one thing, that no stone will be left unturned again to ensure Cork achieve Munster and All Ireland success.

Conclusion

I wish to thank Mairead and Barbara in the Office plus Tommy Lynch and Derek Connolly for all their help, advice and support over the past two years. I wish to thank the Ruaní, Frank Murphy and Senior Administrator Diarmuid O’Donovan for their support and assistance.

To my fellow Officers and Executive Committee members I commend you for the work you undertake on behalf of the county. Your dedication and commitment is unquestionable. I encourage new people to get involved as Officers, members of the Executive and members of the County Board. New people have new ideas and this can only be beneficial to the clubs and the county. We need new leaders that will shape the policies and direction of the county in the years ahead.

I wish my successor, Richard Murphy from Lyre the very best of luck in his role. He has been an excellent Chairman of Duhallow Division and I am confident he will make an excellent Development Officer.

I have been fortunate over the past two years to visit every division in the county and worked with so many clubs and had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people dedicated to their club, community and the GAA. It has been an honour and privilege to serve as Officer and member of the Executive of the County Board.

Éamonn Foiréis

Is mór an pribhléid dom an tuarascáil seo a chur os comhair Chomhdháil Bhliaintúil Choiste Chontae Chorcai 2015.

I am pleased to present this annual report as PRO and IT Officer to the Annual Convention of Coiste Chonte Chorcaí 2015.

Media

Competition Launches/Press Nights

We again organised media and photo launches for our County Championships and Leagues which proved very beneficial in terms of coverage of the games.

Press briefings were organised ahead of the main inter-county championship and league games, and as always, thanks to our Senior Hurling and Football management and especially the players for their help in this.

Match Programmes

Match programmes for Allianz Leagues and County Championship games were once again produced by the Crosshaven club, and my thanks to them for all their work in this area, in particular Martin McMullan. Many thanks also to Brendan Larkin, programme editor, and his team for producing the County Championship Senior Finals programmes.

Website/IT

Cork GAA website continues to be the primary online information channel registering 4.33m page views - device split Mobile/Tablet 66% Desktop 34%. Gender mix M. 54% F. 46%.

Social Media: Our Twitter account @OfficialCorkGAA surpassed the 50k mark (+28%) while our Facebook page gained an additional +18% fans.

With maturation across media platforms the challenge ahead rests in aligning audience reach with a positive engagement.

2015 saw Páirc Uí Rinn hosting our major fixtures including Allianz League home games. Our website and social media channels proved effective messaging conduits when raising public awareness regarding the recent installation of ticket vending booths and cashless turnstiles at the stadium. Advance ticket sales promoted online and through gaa.ie and Centra/Supervalu outlets resulted in increased attendances at the Allianz League home games.

The IT committee secured approvals to upgrade the broadband and wifi capacity at the arena in the press media hub and the main pavilion. This will bring broadband capacity in line with recommended standards for designated county grounds. Works are scheduled for completed in advance of 2016 season home games commencing.

Servasport Database

Servasport is the designated database for registration of players and members. Each year, all clubs must complete a registration of their Full Members, Youth Members (Rule 2.2 Official Guide) and a registration of their adult and juvenile players (Rule 2.3 Official Guide). This is catered for on the online GAA Registration system and “this is now the only acceptable method of registration in the GAA”. Therefore clubs must manage and maintain their online membership records to the highest standards to meet their obligations in terms of compliance and integrity. The IT committee continues to support this function.

Tutorial and Practical Demonstration

In response to demand the IT committee organised Tutorial and Information evenings on the Servasport Database for Club Registrar’s/Secretary’s in Cork Institute of Technology.

My thanks to Ruairi Harvey, Planning and Training Administrator and Jonathon McCarthy, Chair IT committee for facilitating this event.

IT Steering Group

Information Technology is expanding its reach across multiple facets of the organisations activities. IT related support is a specialist work stream.

With this in mind and keeping abreast of innovation and advancing standards the Executive approved the appointment of the IT Steering Group, Chaired by Jonathon McCarthy (Naomh Aban) and including Terry Brady (Ballygarvan) John McNulty (Uibh Laoire) and Edmond Forrest (PRO/IT Officer).

The committee met a number of times to establish a terms of reference but primarily to build a greater understanding of the current and future role of IT in all aspects of Cork GAA administrative and sporting activities.

Guidance was sought and received from members of the Board’s Executive, the GAA’s Chief Information Officer and a representative group of delegates who currently use and administer various IT applications to support communication and reporting of fixtures and results at club level.

The committee’s terms of reference were approved and signed off in September as was a proposal to conduct a baseline review of how IT is currently used and managed. The committee also acknowledge that the forthcoming strategic plan will help focus the future direction of IT on specific projects and initiatives.

The Steering Group are reviewing governance structures, functional deficits and risks in our current IT portfolio together with opportunities for future developments and policy alignment.

The committee will complete the baseline review and

risk assessment and deliver its recommendations in Q1 2016 while continuing to provide cross function support to units as required.

Awards

The Rebel Óg and 96FM/C103 Monthly Sports Awards affords acknowledgement and tangible recognition of our leading players extraordinary commitment and talents. While we congratulate the recipients we also appreciate the awards sponsors continuing support.

Cork GAA Clubs Draw

The PR and Marketing committee teamed up the with Department of Marketing and International Business at Cork Institute of Technology to undertake a review of the Cork GAA Clubs Draw. This project formed part of the Sports Marketing module undertaken by fourth year degree students in second semester and culminated with a series of high pitched presentations to representatives from Faculty, Marketing Institute and Cork GAA Board.

The recommendations on how to raise awareness and boost ticket sales will inform the Draw Committees future considerations and illustrates effective cross function support.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh Documentary

The PR and Marketing committee secured agreement with Nemeton TV to produce a documentary featuring the Páirc Uí Chaoimh redevelopment in Marina Park.

The production by Nemeton TV on behalf of TG4 and in conjunction with an Coiste Chontae will showcase the design concepts in the new facility and reflect the arenas rich history and its role in the life of the association and the city.

The project brief transcends theatre of dreams, functional utility, economic hub, centre of excellence - a peoples park.

It is an opportunity to evaluate, capture and record the reconstruction of an urban landmark from project inception to completion and recommissioning.

This will provide an invaluable digital record and promotional media for the organisation and other agencies.

Cork Senior All Ireland Championships Jubilee Teams 1990-2015

The Cork senior hurling and football teams All Ireland championship 1990 victories were marked during the year. Cork City Council and Lord Mayor Cllr Mary Shields awarded a Civic Reception in City Hall for the teams in May and the Board hosted at a celebratory Lunch for the teams in August. The double champions also featured at the respective All Ireland finals Jubilee celebrations. Press briefings were arranged in advance of these events.

Cork County Senior Championships Jubilee Teams 1990-2015

The Na Piarsaigh senior hurling team and the Duhallow senior football teams were hosted by the Board on the occasion of their Jubilee’s at the county senior hurling and football finals. Prior to the games the teams were invited to Lunch and the PR committee managed these events.

The Na Piarsaigh team were pathfinders as they had won their clubs inaugural county senior hurling title in 1990 while the famous Duhallow team went on to complete a back to back double successfully defending their title in 1991. Comhghairdeas Libh!

Cork GAA Open Nights

The GAA’s #MeetYourHeroes promotion was scheduled during the first week of May. Cork GAA Open Nights took place in Páirc Uí Rinn on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th May.

The #MeetYourHeroes evenings were enthusiastically supported and proved very popular with Cork fans turning out in huge numbers.

My thanks to team management and players for entering into the spirit of the evening and giving of their time so generously.

Training

Workshops and Information sessions were organised for PRO’s and IT officers plus club Registrar’s in February and March respectively. Key note presentations were delivered by Lisa Clancy, GAA Director of Communications and Ruairi Harvey, Planning and Training Administrator.

Yearbook 2015

My thanks to Richard Smithers, Allied Print and Denis Hurley and other contributors for their assistance in the compilation. Appreciation also to photographers including Denis O’Flynn, John O’Brien, George Hatchell, Mike English, Eddie O’Hare and David Keane.

An Chríoch

I wish to acknowledge the support of my family, fellow officers and club PRO’s over the past year. In particular I wish to record my appreciation for the support received from my club, Ballygarvan, and the IT and PR/Marketing committees. The role of PRO while challenging and time-consuming, is also very rewarding, and I wish my successor well in the year ahead.

I am pleased to present my report as Children’s Officer to the Annual Convention of Coiste Chontae Chorcaí 2015. I am very grateful to everyone who helped and supported me during my first year as Children’s Officer. It has been a very busy but rewarding year. I would most sincerely like to thank my fellow officers and Executive members for their support . I wish to also thank Barbara , Mairéad and Tommy who were so helpful to me throughout the year.

Visiting The Divisions in 2015.

In February and March of 2015, I, along with the Coaching Officer Kevin O’ Donovan and the Development Officer Michael Byrne visited the eight Divisions throughout the County. My role as Children’s Officer at those meetings was to inform the Clubs of their responsibility in appointing a Children’s Officer at club level and to make sure that all personnel involved with teams are Garda Vetted. We were delighted with the attendance at these meetings except for two divisions where the turnout was less than fifty per cent. I thought it was a very worthwhile exercise and enjoyed meeting the different members from the clubs. On a downside, I was disappointed to discover that some clubs throughout the County had not appointed a Children’s Officer and were depending on the secretary of the club to fulfil the role. I would hope that those Clubs have to date taken on their responsibility and appointed a Children’s Officer .

Garda Vetting 2015

There were approximately 1250 personnel Garda Vetted throughout the year. This brings the total number of people vetted in C.L.G. Coiste Co Chorcaí to over 6000

people. This is a very high number and I thank all those people for their efforts. On a downside, it is frustrating at the length of time it is taking for people to receive confirmation of approval and it is an issue I will be taking up with Croke Park in 2016. Also the number of forms that I receive that are not fully completed or where the Old Form is used is disappointing as all this was fully explained at the Divisional meetings and by e- mail sent out by the Senior Administrator outlining the proper forms to be used. It is extra and unnecessary work and time to have to return these incorrect forms back to the Clubs and for individuals to re-do them again.

Child Protection Courses 2015

In Cork we have eight individuals who are trained to deliver Child Protection Courses. It was encouraging to see the amount of Clubs who took part in these courses this year. I would hope that all individuals involved in Under Age Teams would have completed the Child Protection Course. These courses last for about three hours and each person receives a Certificate on completion. Approximately sixteen people can attend per course. I would urge Clubs who have not completed this course to do so at their earliest convenience and can contact me at any time and I will arrange it for you. My contact details [email protected] or 086-2594421.

Since the establishment of the Health & Wellbeing Committee we have provided support to clubs in relation to the occurrence of Critical Incidences, in line with the GAA Critical Incident Plan. The main activity of the Committee in 2015 was to host the inaugural Cork Health & Wellbeing Forum .This forum was held on October 17th in St Finbarr’s Hurling & Football Club. Speakers on the day included Janas Harrington (County H&W Committee),Emmet Haughian (Community & Health Dept in Croke Park), Majella Canty (Samaritans), Claire Harrington & Pearse Mc Carthy (St Finbarrs and Midleton Healthy Club Projects) and the guest speaker was Oisín Mc Conville. There were 50 delegates in attendance representing 29 clubs. The H & W Committee also supported the Dermot Earley Youth Leadership

Initiative. This exciting programme enables young people to develop the skills and qualities necessary to be good leaders, and challenges them to use these skills to improve society. We have 3 trained tutors in the County with 16 members aged 15-18yrs from 11 clubs participating in this programme.

Our plan for 2016 will be to support the establishment of the Club Health &Wellbeing Officers and to support and co-ordinate the training for these officers. This training is being developed by the National Health & Wellbeing Committee, tutor training will begin in January and training for the Club Officers will be available shortly after .Further we will be developing a County Critical Incident Plan which will be available to all Clubs.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS31 October 2015

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

The significant accounting policies adopted by the Board in the preparation of thesefinancial statements are as follows:

(a) Historical cost conventionThe financial statements are prepared under the historical cost convention.

(b) Long term investmentsLong term investments in unlisted shares are carried at cost.

Long term investments in bonds which the Board intend to hold to maturity are carriedat cost, provided that maturity value is equal to or greater than cost. Where bondshave a guaranteed return over a specified time period and no encashment isanticipated before that date, they are valued at the lower of cost or maturity valueeven if market value at the balance sheet date is less. Bonds have a nominal orguaranteed value which is payable by the issuer of the bond on maturity.

(c) Income and expenditureIncome and expenditure are accounted for on an accruals basis.

Interest on long term investments is recognised in the period it is accrued andadjustments in value from cost to maturity value are debited to financial income.

Income from Championship games played after the conclusion of the financial year(31 October) and before the finalisation of the Board’s annual accounts is accrued forin the accounts.

The Board’s policy is to account for gross sponsorship income received in connectionwith its activities. In the Board’s Revenue Account, all such income is included ineither Commercial or Transfer income and the related disbursements are included inthe appropriate category of expenditure. Consistent with this policy, sponsored gearand equipment is included, at cost, in Commercial Income and in Inter County Teams’Expenses.

(d) Cork GAA members’ drawThe Cork GAA members’ draw year ends on 31 August and the policy of the Board isto include, in its income, the results of the draw which was completed within itsfinancial year. Monies received in the Board’s financial year, which relate to thefollowing year’s draw, are included as liabilities in the Board’s balance sheet.Expenditure, including prizes, is matched with related income.

(e) Capital grantsNon-repayable Central and Munster Council grants and grants from the NationalLottery towards the cost of Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Pairc Ui Rinn and other grounds arecredited to a capital reserve and shown separately in the balance sheet and are nottherefore credited to income.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES (Continued)

(f) DepreciationThe Board’s grounds, including the stadia at Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Pairc Ui Rinn, arenot depreciated. It is the Board's practice to maintain the grounds/stadia in properoperating condition by regular maintenance and upgrading as required. Accordinglythe Board considers that the lives of the grounds/stadia are so long and residualvalue so high that any depreciation is immaterial. Buildings are reviewed forimpairment on an annual basis. Other fixed assets (fixtures and equipment) aredepreciated on a straight line basis at rates of 5% to 25% per annum.

In 2015 the Board ran a total of 25 competitions which included 13 championships, 9 leagues and 3 Cup competitions. Total of 393 games were played between various championships, leagues and cup competitions.

A total of 116 teams entered our various Championships and 132 games were played. Relegation continued in this year’s Junior A Football Championship which saw three more teams relegated. Both our Junior A Championships had new winners with Bandon winning the Football championship and Clonakilty team capturing the Hurling championship. The Junior Football leagues this year was organised into six divisions with promotion and relegation between all division and continued to be run on a Regional Basic with clubs from Beara. The Junior Hurling leagues were run on a divisional basic. A total of 73 teams took part in the leagues with 263 games played 183 in football and 80 in Hurling. In 2015 the Board also organised a Football Cup Competition for 1st Years of the Secondary Schools of the division which proved to be popular amount the Schools in 2014. It was organised in conjunction with the Carbery/Beara GDA James McCarthy. All nine Schools took part. The first two rounds were organised in blitz form with four qualifying for the semi-finals. Hamilton High Schools Bandon beat Clonakilty Community College in the final

which was played as a curtain raiser to the U21A Football Championship Final.Five clubs from Carbery contested County Finals with Newcestown, Bandon and Kilmeen all capturing county titles while Castlehaven and Bantry Blues unsuccessful in their bids to capture a county title.2015 AGM see the departure of our Cathaoirleach Seán O Corcoráin who has served his 3 year terms. He must be complimented for his dedicated service to the Carbery Board over many years in many roles.

In 2015, Bórd an Roinn Oirthir ran 16 competitions, all of which had been completed at the time of writing apart from Junior A Football Championship. This competition is always the most difficult to complete due to the number of dual clubs involved, and was particularly complicated this year due to the progress of three of the four quarter-finalists, Fr. O’Neill’s, Erin’s Own and Dungourney, to the late stages of their respective primary hurling competitions. From the August weekend on, at least one of these teams was in hurling action every weekend apart from the weekend directly preceding the East Cork Final involving Dungourney. Fr O’Neill’s were nominated to play in the County Championships as they were the only team of the three remaining at that stage without hurling commitments that weekend. At the time of going to print, the final had been scheduled for November 28th. This competition causes problems every year, and will continue to do so as long as clubs continue to prioritise hurling over football.

The addition of an inter-divisional competition in Junior B Hurling and Football meant that these championships had to be run parallel to their Junior A equivalents, and this proved to be successful, with both competitions finishing significantly earlier than in recent years. However, this did mean that the majority of clubs were finished all competition, apart from League Finals, by late September, which may have an impact on participation levels if it continues. There may be a necessity to consider running secondary competitions at this time of year if there is a demand from clubs.

It was another successful year for East Cork Clubs in the County Championships, with the highlight being the success of Junior A Hurling Champions Dungourney, who, in winning a first ever County title, meant that the John Quirke Cup returned to the parish of Imogeela for the second year in a row – surely a unique achievement. While Dungourney have only won the East Cork Championship three times, partly due to their participation in higher grades in their early years, they have always been strong contenders and we wish them well in the Intermediate grade and in their 2015 Club Championship Campaign. In U21 Hurling, Watergrasshill also claimed County honours with a win over Kilworth in the final. Midleton won the County Junior A Hurling League and, at the time of writing, had reached the Final of the RedFM Senior Hurling League.

The Junior C Hurling Championship continues to flourish, with nine teams entered this year. This competition was conceived with the intention of encouraging clubs to field an extra team, whether this was their second, third or in some cases fourth, team and thus to provide competition for a greater number of club players, and it certainly seems to be serving this purpose.

Another major positive this year was the extended run of the Imokilly Senior Hurling team in the County Championships. Following wins over Avondhu and UCC in the Divisions/Colleges section of the Championship, Imokilly progressed to the main draw and defeated Ballyhea in a high-scoring Round 4 encounter, 2-28 to 3-11. Having reached the quarter-finals for the first time in a number of years, expectations were high ahead of the meeting with Sars, but that was to prove the end of the road for the Stripes this year. Sars put in a stronger performance and won on a scoreline of 0-20 to 0-16. There is no doubt but that this extended Championship run has renewed interest in the Divisional team both amongst players and supporters, and with manager Fergal Condon continuing in the role, hopes are high for 2016.

With the extension of the County Junior A Hurling League to include all regions of the County, the Imokilly/Avondhu Regional Division 1 Hurling League was discontinued this year. A number of teams took part in both East Cork and County Leagues, with Midleton winning the County League and reaching the final of the East Cork Division 1 Hurling League. The extra competition proved useful and does not appear to have impacted negatively on the East Cork Leagues.

Finance continues to be a challenge, and while the Board recorded a surplus again this year, sponsorship levels are still significantly below pre-recession levels. As the economy continues to pick up, increasing income will have to be a priority going forward. One of the biggest issues faced this year was the lack of availability of grounds for games. The Board relies on Championship gates as its primary source of income, and playing games at non-neutral venues should only be a last resort. Clubs need to take cognisance of the fact that, the smaller the gate, the smaller the dividend to both the clubs and the Board, and must ensure that venues are available when needed.

A number of officers are stepping down this year at the conclusion of their five-year terms, including Runaí Tracey Ní Chinnéide, Cisteoir Iaróm Ó Briain and Oifigeach Gaeilge agus Forbartha Seán Seosaimh Ó Ríogáin. Our thanks to them for the service they have given over the past five years.

Well done also to all the Imokilly players who wore the red jersey in 2015, and especially those who won Munster titles at Intermediate Hurling level, and to all our referees, Scór participants and everyone who has contributed to the operation of the Imokilly Division in 2015.

In the past year, we again had very valuable and welcome sponsorship of our Primary Competitions. Divisional Teams, and also to BURTONS, Kanturk who supported our Senior Hurlers.

In our local competitions, it was great to see two teams who have been starved of Divisional success, claim titles in our Junior Championships. Knocknagree, who have been favourites for the past few seasons, earned their right after a replay win over Lyre in JAFC, while a most unexpected, yet deserving win, for a gallant Castlemagner over Freemount in the JAHC. A fantastic fairytale campaign. A remarkable double also for Robert Emmetts in our U21 Championships.

Pride of place for our Divisional Teams must go to our U21 Hurlers who were just short in claiming County Championship honours against a most clinical Blackrock after a replay. It was also great to see BOTH our Divisional Senior Hurlers and Footballers advance to the County Championship Round 4.

In County Leagues and Championships, commiserations to Knocknagree in Co. JAFL to Dromtarriffe in Regional Co. JBHC final. Millstreet clung on to their Intermediate status with a great victory over Adrigole.

As I write my last report as Runai it is hard to believe, that five years has past so fast.

This AGM will create its own bit of history as we say goodbye to two wonderful Gentlemen in Muskerry. Firstly Frank Mc-Carthy who joined the Board in 1988 -1991 as Vice chair and Chairman in 1991-2010 where his leadership qualities came to the fore, Frank had a great ability to negotiate in conflict-ing problems and bring matters to satisfactory conclusion. Frank spent the last five years as Development Officer and again spent a lot of that time in securing Sponsorship for the Board and funds for Coaching in Ballincollig and Coachford.

JJ Long became Vice Chairman in 1999 -2010 and 2010-2015 as Chairman, as we all know during that term JJ suf-fered a very serious farm accident. JJ has been an inspiration to all of us as he battled his way from Rehab back to the Chair in Coachford. His constant good humour and the will to get back are just some of the characteristics that makes him an incredible man.

Both these men will be a huge loss to the Board and I am sure if there is any need to seek advice, these men will only be a phone call away. Also our Cultural Officer Padraig Ó’Céilleachair term has concluded, and Padraig has not put himself forward for any other position. Hopefully he will con-tinue on as a Referee Assessor, as he has been an excellent Referee in years past.

January is usually a quiet month regarding GAA activities. However that was not the case this year. It was the first year that the awards for a Junior Football and Hurling Teams, were

announced in Oriel Hse Hotel in Ballincollig. These Teams were kindly sponsored by Macroom Haulage and O’Mahony Walsh. The evening was sponsored by Oriel Hse Hotel, and the overall winner of Auld Triangle Sports star for 2014 was also announced as Breige Corkery.

The individual award winners were chosen from Football, Hurling, Camogie and Ladies Football.  Nominations for each month were brought forward by a number of media report-ers who closely monitor the games. The monthly award win-ner received a personalized invitation, and invited Family and Friends to attend the function at the Auld Triangle.

In all, the Board ran 18 Competitions in 2015, and 272 games were played in both Football and Hurling. Our Junior A Football is still the number one attraction, with Uibh Laoire and Inniscarra competing for honours in the newly refurbished facilities in Cill Na Martra. Uibh Laoire last won this competition last in 1985 and Inniscarra 1989 so for both teams there was a lot at stake , Uibh laoire came out on top to the delight of their huge following

In Junior A Hurling, Cloughduv are still the kingpins when they disposed of Blarney No 2 team in the Final. Which was played in Coachford before a modest crowd. Cloughduv made it all the way to the County final only to leave a five point lead slip for a draw, and were well beaten in replay which was played in atrocious conditions.

In U21 Football, Inniscarra and Macroom made it to the final where Inniscarra came out on top in a very closely contested Final . They were beaten by Beara in the County, and they certainly look strong contenders for honours again in 2016.

In U21 Hurling Blarney regained their title of kingpins when they over came the challenge of Inniscarra in the Final. Blarney beat Newcestown in first round of County and were defeated by Duhallow in Semi-Final.

Gate receipts and attendances were down this year, which was to be expected because of the poor weather conditions for the Junior A Football final and a poor Junior Hurling championship.

Scór is now struggling, with fewer clubs competing, which is a pity, as this side of the GAA activity is now being neglected. With the introduction of new rule changes it should be easier to get more people involved. There are plenty musicians, singers, dancers and other knowledgeable people within the various clubs. I am sure that, if asked, they would be delighted to show their wares on stage during these long winter nights. I would hope that all clubs would make the effort to get people out this year.

Another successful year in competitions under the control of the Central Region, East, West and North who ran its competitions throughout 2015. The various County series, (i.e., Feile na nÓg, Feile na nGael, County Under 15 ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and the Inter regional Competitions under the Control of Coiste na nÓg, are also successfully concluded, with the exception of County Minor ‘C’, to eventual County Championship completion.. Championships / LeaguesLike previous years we had teams emerging successfully in County Leagues having earlier failed in their bid to annex Championship Titles. This shows interest and determination at being successful in the grade in which they participated during 2015. Surely a worthwhile victory for the effort in the secondary competition. Development SquadsAll the Counties Development Squads acquitted themselves well during 2015. In Football we had success in the Under 15 Humphrey Kelleher Tournament with both Cork Panels contesting the Final. We also had success in both Under 14 and under 16 Footall as well. .In Hurling we made a clean sweep of all competitions with Victories at Under 14 ‘A’ (Tony Forrestal), Under 14 ‘B’ (Sonny Walsh) at Waterford. In Under 15 the ‘A’ emerged successful winning the Ted Hanley title at Ballygarvan and for good Measure the second side travelled to Clarecastle and returned home with the Honours. The Under 16 Competition in Tipperary saw another double achieved, and to end a good weekend the Under 17 side took the Honours by winning the Eugene Carey Tournament, hosted by Mallow. The 2014 /2015 season was once again both productive and rewarding. A high level of skill and sportsmanship was evidenced on the field of play. As a result of the recent amalgamation of sectors which is now in its second year there was an increased work load on Neil Ó Chaoimh and he managed the logistics as detailed below.

We would like to extend the sincerest thanks of Colaiste Iarbhunscoileanna Chorcaí to all the teachers who give up their time voluntarily to prepare teams for our various competitions. Without this honourable commitment we would not have an organisation at all, so thank you. Secondly I would like to thank my fellow committee members who work tirelessly to ensure the smooth running and completion of our competitions and the safeguarding of our organisation in what can only be described as unsure times for our colleges.

A special word of thanks must go to Neally O’Keeffe our development officer. The work load that Neally gets through is immense and without a doubt we would not complete our expansive programme of fixtures without his input and expertise.

The continuing situation of Club games being played throughout the week under floodlights right through November coupled with their training and challenge matches leaves little time for the College panels to train. Furthermore, this overload of training and games is seriously manifesting itself in the issue of player burnout and exhaustion. A number of our members have even questioned the viability of continuing the Colleges competitions if the current situation continues. It is simply not practical to continue within the existing constraints. A decision must be made at County Board level to provide a definite window for our competitions with no Club games being played during that window.

Again a high level of success was achieved at Provincial, National and International level. World Championship in Calgary Canada in August made It a very special year. Mallow players had a hugely successful World series winning gold in four final , while a number of other players went close bringing home silver. Those who achieved gold on the World scene were, Tadgh Carroll/ Ryan Harkin in Mens A Doubles, Ryan Harkin in Mens B Singles, Ciaran Buckley in Mens C Singles, Tadgh O Neill in 17 & Under One Wall. Back on home territory Cork players won twelve All-Ireland titles, Catriona Casey again led the way winning four of the five Ladies Senior titles on offer, Ladies 40/20 Doubles, Ladies 60/30 Doubles, Ladies 60/30 Singles and Ladies One Wall National title. Daniel Relihan, Liscarroll also figured prominently winning 40/ 20 Junior B Singles & he also partnered Aidan Kerins, Ballydesmond to Junior B Doubles glory, He also won Junior Hardball Doubles partnered by clubmate John Hedigan and 60/30 Under 21 Doubles partnered by clubmate Michael Hedigan. It also proved to be a good year for Fermoy player Jamie O Donnell with success in 60/30 Over 35 B Singles. In Juvenile Handball our Boys U16 Doubles pair Mallow players David Walsh/Tadgh O Neill were crowned All-Ireland champions, while in One Wall Tadgh O Neill took 17 & Under Nationals Singles title. In addition to the All-Ireland success outlined Cork U14/15 team won All-Ireland Inter County team championship defeating Kilkenny in the final, there was also some notable success at provincial level, winning twenty five provincial titles in 40/20,60/30 and One Wall, while Cork players also figured prominently in the many ranked tournaments staged countrywide.

All-Ireland Juvenile Success The success in Boys U16 Doubles with Mallow pair David Walsh/Tadgh O Neill was an important one for both players who have figured prominently at provincial level in recent years, the step up in taking All- Ireland honours can only be good for them. Likewise the feat of the Under 14/15 team in their success over Kilkenny should be a big plus for them going forward. That team of eight was made up of five Mallow players Conor Walsh, Brooklyn Hickey, Stephen O Rourke, Niall Delany, Anthony O Connell and three Liscarroll players Michael O Callaghan, Luke Barrett and Colin Healy. We also enjoyed success in provincial juvenile championship, in particular some of the younger age groups who are shaping well, which is encouraging going forward.

Juvenile Committee/Juvenile Activity The County Juvenile Committee under the guidance of Secretary Michael O Keeffe,Ballydesmond and Chairman,Tom Dunne, Kilworth and Youth Officer Dale Cusack,Mallow together with a representative from each

club continue to drive forward a programme of juvenile development, coaching and continuous activity with the clubs for all age groups. There are large numbers of very promising underage players in the county who have potential but that has to be harnessed and developed. At the end of 2014 a County Coaching committee was put in place under the guidance of Tony Healy, to oversee coaching and development of underage players both boys and girls, a lot of good work has been done but a lot more need to be done. That programme is ongoing with all the coaches involved now concentrating on preparing the young boys and girls who will represent Cork in Munster championship and competitions in 2016. The amount of competition available for young players has also greatly increased with all clubs organising blitz competitions and tournaments and also a big increase in One Wall activity during summer months. All in all this augers well for the future of the game in the county but the present level of activity must not alone be maintained it needs to be increased.

County Championship County championship continues to be an important part of our games programme, the most extensive championship is in 40/20 code, we also run 60/30 championship and this year started a One Wall championship, these championships are played in both adult and juvenile in the different grades and age groups and also at A and B level. The standard in the championship is very high and would be one of the best run by any county in the country. We hope to continue to review and improve our championship on an ongoing basis.

Club Tournaments/Leagues We are fortunate that clubs are very committed to tournaments and league competitions, which are very important to give players on going meaningful playing time, which helps develop their skill and their ability to compete comfortably in their respective grades. In the different clubs there are also tournaments organised which attract both internal and outside players all of which add a flavour to the game. We need all clubs to commit to providing that very necessary level of activity at all times.

Finance We all need money to survive and handball is no different. In most clubs areas you are competing with all other sports and organisations to raise money out of what is now a smaller pot. Fundraising is a very specialised job and not one that everyone will be successful in doing. A finance committee committed to fund raising is a must and need to be put in place sooner rather than later. We depend on Affiliations, Entry Fees, Sponsorship, County GAA Board grant and Club Levies, Collection at County Senior Football Final and Sponsored Marathon to keep our heads above water. We thank our sponsors Mallow Credit Union, Compunet IT Solutions, Viaduct Inn, County GAA Board, GAA Clubs and all who contributed in one way or another to our financial wellbeing.

The past year was another reasonably satisfactory year for Inter Firm GAA in Cork. While we lost a few teams from the previous year, we had a few new clubs ending up with an increase of just one team over the 2014 figure. Again we provided plenty games for those competing, but it was that bit more difficult to get games played than in previous years. The standard was excellent and on par with many games seen in other units of our Association during the year. We are lucky that we have so me very committed individuals involved, but with so many games in championship and league many firms find it difficult to get a commitment from their players due to so much other involvement. While we have made good progress on the programme of championship and secondary competitions we committed to at start of year, we are a week or two further away from completing our programme than we would normally be at this time of year.

Football Championship

We played four grades of football championship Open Senior, Junior A ,Junior, Junior B.In Senior Championship Eli Lilly defeated the holders Carbery Group in the Final. In Junior A Cork Teachers won their first championship for a few years defeating Cork Garda. In Junior Laya Healthcare newcomers to Inter Firm defeated Cork Airport to take the title. In Junior B Intel/McAfee won their first football championship defeating newcomers Stryker in the final.

Hurling Championship

We had two grades in hurling Junior A and Junior B, In Junior A Cork Garda competing at this level for the first time in a number of years defeated Kerry Group Charleville in an excellent final. In B Championship Laya Healthcare play Apple in a s/final, with the winner to play Pfizer in the final.

Secondary Competitions

Apple who have been long term contestants in Junior Football Cup took the spoils defeating Stryker in the final. In Junior B Football Cup Teagasc play Naval Service in the Final. In Murphy Cup A that is also at Final stage with Carbery Group to play Cork Garda. In Murphy Cup B Cork Airport play Stryker in the final. While the weather

will undoubtedly play a part it is hoped to have the outstanding games played by end of November.

Munster Championship

Munster championship is up and running, a number of games have been played, To date Carbery Group are the only Cork team in action they defeated Analog, Limerick in a Senior Football quarter final played in Mallow. All other Cork teams will be in action before the end of November,it is hoped to have Munster Finals played by Christmas.

Grounds/Referees

We depend very much on clubs to make their fields available to us and on referees to handle our games. We are very fortunate that clubs make their grounds available to us, we are all aware of the pressure on clubs to maintain a balance on the use of fields with so many games now being played at all levels. We are fortunate that most clubs allow us use of their facilities if available , We have never experienced a situation in which we were refused the use of a pitch when available. The support we have received in the past year from Mallow, Bishopstown, Delaneys, Ballincollig, Nemo Rangers, Shanbally, Kilworth, ,Newtownshandrum, Macroom, Ballyhea is greatly appreciated. without their help we would not have got our county or provincial games played, Again we must pay tribute to our referees who have again come up trumps in the past year. Our experience with referees has been hugely positive they provide a fantastic service to GAA games. Again we express our thanks to all referees who helped out during the year,we greatly appreciate it, without your help we could not play our games.

Finance

Cork Inter Firm GAA Board is now in existence over sixty years, thankfully we have succeeded in staying at the right side of the financial divide. The past year has been a reasonable one, again sponsorship plays an important part. Heineken again sponsored our football championship and secondary football competitions under the Beamish Stout brand which is a big help to the Inter Firm Board, we thank all involved in Heineken Irl for their continued support. Pfizer who have been longterm supporters of Cork Inter Firm GAA continued their sponsorship of the Junior Hurling championship, again we express our thanks to all involved in Pfizer for their continued sponsorship which is a big help. We are also involved in Cork GAA clubs draw which is a help and thank those who joined with us.

We are always on the look out for new teams, there have been fairly positive vibes out there in recent months we are hopeful those enquiries will see new teams competing in 2016.

At a meeting in the Victoria Hotel, Cork on December 27th 1884, the first meeting of the Gaelic Athletic Association following the founding meeting in Thurles, the now famous letter from Most Rev. T.W. Croke, Archbishop of Cashel and Emly, accepting an invitation to him to become a Patron of the Association was read:

DR. CROKE'S LETTER

THE PALACE, THURLES, 18th December, 1884My Dear Sir, I beg to acknowledge receipt of your communication inviting me to become a patron of the Gaelic Athletic Association, of which you are, it appears, the Hon. Secretary. I accede to your request with the utmost pleasure. One of the most painful, let me assure you, and at the same time, one of the most frequently recurring reflections that, as an Irishman I am compelled to make in connection with the present aspect of things in the country is derived from the ugly and irritating fact that we are daily importing from England, not only her manufac-tured goods, which we cannot help doing since she has practically strangled our own manufacturing appliances, but together with her fashions, her accents, her vicious literature, her music, her dances and her manifold man-nerisms, her games, also her pastimes, to the utter discredit of our own grand national sports and to the sore humiliation, and as I believe, of every geniune son and daughter of the old land. Ball playing, hurling, football-kicking according to Irish rules, 'casting', leaping in various ways, wrestling, hand-grips, toe-pegging, leap-frog, rounders, tip-the-hat, and all such other exercises and amusements, amongst men and boys may now be said to be not only dead and buried, but in several localities to be entirely forgotten and unknown. And what have we got in their stead? We have got such foreign and fantastic field sports as lawn tennis, polo, cricket and the like - very excellent I believe, and health giving exercises in their ways, still not racy of the soil, but rather alien, on the contrary to it, as are, indeed for the most part, the men and women who first imported, and still-continue to patronise them. And unfortunately, it is not our national sports alone that are held in dishonour and are dying out, but even our most suggestive national celebrations are being gradually effaced and extinguished, one after another as well. Who hears now of snap-apple night, pan-cake night, bon-fire night? They are all things of the past, too vulgar to be spoken of, except in ridicule by the degenerate dandies of the day. No doubt there is something rather pleasing to the eye in the get-up of a modern young man, who arrayed in light attire, with parti-coloured cap on and racquet in hand is making his way, with or without a companion, to the tennis ground. But for my part, I should vastly prefer to behold or to think of, the youthful athletes, whom I used to see in my early days at fair or pattern, bereft of shoes and coat, and thus prepared to play at handball, to fly over any number of horses, to throw the 'sledge' or 'winding-stones' and to test each other's mettle and actively by the trying ordeal of 'threeleaps' or a 'hop, step and jump'. Indeed if we continue travelling for the next score years in the same direction that we have been going for some time past, condemning the sports that were practised by our fore-fathers, effacing our national features as though we were ashamed of them, and putting on, with England's stuffs and broadcloths, her masher habits and such other effeminate follies as she may recommend, we had better at once, and publicly, abjure our nation-ality, clap our hands for joy at the sight of the Union Jack, and place 'England's bloody red' exultantly above the green. Deprecating, as I do, any such dire and disgraceful consumption, and seeing in your society of athletes something altogether opposed to it, I shall be happy to do all for it that I can, and authorise you now formally to place my name on the roll of patrons. In conclusion, I earnestly hope that our national journals will not disdain in future to give suitable notice of these Irish sports and pastimes which your society means to patronise and promote, and that the masters and pupils of our Irish Colleges will not henceforth exclude from the Athletic programmes such manly exercises as I have referred to and commemorated. I remain, my dear Sir, Your very faithful servant, T.W. CROKE, Archbishop of Cashel

To MICHAEL CUSACK,Hon. Sec. of the GAELIC ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
