I remember fondly visiting with her. She was always a pleasant lady who loved her church. She lived to be 103 and passed away in 2010. The second person is Roderick (Rod) Otto Moore, Jr. who was born on November 6, 1915. He joined DUMC in 2000, when he and his wife, Josephine, moved to Westport from their home in Wichita, Kansas. In his story, “What it is like to be 100,” he says, “I am the first male Moore to reach 100 in 8 generations. All I can say is that I had a great wife who raised 3 great children. My employment years were stressful, and I thoroughly enjoyed early retirement. I think God had a firm grip on my hand many times during my life.” Rod especially enjoys his friends at DUMC. His neighbors, Guy & Dee Thomas, bring him to church most Sundays. He also enjoys attending First Thursday Lunch, and he will be there on November 5th, the day before his birthday. He likes to arrive at 11:00 a.m., as he is fond of the wonderful cake with the caramel icing. Please, come wish Rod a Happy 100th Birthday at First Thursday Lunch on November 5th!!! A Note from Anita

As the calendar turns, and November stares back at me, my heart catches in my throat a bit. November means the rush of December is on its way. Before we blink it will be January, and we'll all wonder how these seasons have come and gone. It is a wonderful time that is rich with tradition and super-busy with activity, but sometimes in all of that, we miss the point of living a life of thankfulness and of celebrating God's radical in-breaking into our darkness at Christmas. So this year, I invite you to covenant with me that we will not miss all that God has for us in these seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas. As every day passes, may God help us live thank-full lives. May God shape our hearts to receive this baby who will change everything in our lives if we let Him.

JOY on the journey, Rev. Anita Sain, [email protected]

Administrative Board Notes

The Charge Conference was held on November 1st at Salem United Methodist Church. Items presented in the Nominations and Leadership report and Pastor’s salaries were approved.

-Wendi Brooks, Charge Conference Secretary Stewardship Update:

For the last several years, the amount needed by December 31st to meet our ministry budget has been announced to the congregation beginning in November. The ministry budget for 2015 is $1,112,990, and the income through November 3 $783,800. It will take $329,190 to meet this goal. This budget can be met if everyone faithfully supports the church, with no gift being too large or too small. This has been a transitional year with new staff hires, and your church is thriving. Helping Hands Thanksgiving Delivered

As in recent years, Helping Hands will be providing Thanksgiving Dinner to our

neighbors who would otherwise spend Thanksgiving alone. If you know of area

shut-ins who would enjoy dinner and a visit, please contact Charlie at

[email protected]. Please, let him know if you or your family

would like to deliver meals that morning, as well. They will be delivered from around

11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. You'll be home in plenty of time to enjoy your own meal.

I promise, you'll get more out of the visits than the ones you're reaching out to bless! If you'd like to donate homemade pies for

the dinners, contact Carol Brown at [email protected].

Hesed House Needs Donors A pavilion has been constructed at

Hesed House of Hope Homeless Shelter, funded by a private donor.

This will be such a blessing for those at the shelter! They want durable picnic tables,

like those in area playgrounds, for the pavilion. They are around $1500 each.

If you'd like to donate funds for a table or make a smaller donation that will go towards a picnic table,

please contact John at [email protected].

New Staff in 2015

(from left to right: Cameron Wilson, Jan Kuklo, Patti Carr, Rev. Anita Sain, Jared Ginsburg, & Nick Richart)

DUMC is proud to introduce our 2015 new staff hires. You’ve probably had the chance to meet a few or all of them, but here’s something about each of them you may not know…

Cameron Wilson (Co-Office Administrator) Cameron has been a member of DUMC since April 14, 2013, the same day she was baptized along-side her

first born. She was born and raised in NC and has never called another state home. Her and her husband, Rich, have two boys, Luke (3) and Abel (1). In her spare time, she likes to cook, sew, go thrift store shopping,

have quiet time, and play with her kids. She is excited to see what the future holds at DUMC.

Jan Kuklo (Business Manager) Jan and her husband recently moved to Denver to be near family and enjoy the weather (a lot less snow than Ohio!) Her ministry has been focused on the youth. She has enjoyed being a kindergarten Sunday

school teacher as well as the “pizza, cookie and video game mom” for the high school boy’s youth group who would meet in their home. She is looking forward to meeting new people in the community and in the

church family.

Patti Carr (Co-Office Administrator) Patti has been a DUMC member since 2006. She grew up all over the South and Midwest. She has been married to her husband, Joe, for almost 25 years, and they have 3 children. Jonathan (20) is in the Army currently stationed in Alaska; Tessa (18) is a college freshman; and Samantha (17) is a high school senior. She enjoys the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly people at DUMC. She likes spending time with her family, cooking, Pinterest and music.

Rev. Anita Sain (Associate Pastor of Worship Arts) Anita grew up in Shelby, NC and has been in ministry 18 years. She spent 10 years in music ministry, and is

in her 8th year serving as a pastor. People and worship and growing disciples are among her greatest passions. She enjoys all kinds of watersports...a paddle board is in her future! She feels so blessed to be part

of this church and this staff team, and she can't wait to see what God is going to do with us!

Jared Ginsburg (Associate Youth Pastor) Jared works with Nick in leading the youth ministry, leads SPROUT, and coordinates technology for

worship services. A former third grade teacher and proud University of Florida alumnus, Jared is head over heels in love with his fiancé, Amy. He loves reading, playing music, writing, eating lunch in school cafeterias (for the students, not the food), cooking, and asking people random questions. Odds are he's

probably wearing a pair of converse shoes.

Nick Richart (Youth Pastor) Nick recently graduated from Appalachian State University with a BA in Religious Studies and a minor in Recreation Management. He felt a call towards Youth Ministry ever since he was a youth and is so excited to serve the next generation here at DUMC! A few things Nick enjoys are kayaking, rock climbing, long walks on the beach, skateboarding, and playing the banjo.
