The local rainfall data determined by KOSTRA-DWD is the basis for the calculationof soakaways in Germany.
Project Questionnaire
The D-Raintank® effectively solves the problemof local drainage of rainwater!
The D-Raintank® has been especially developed for
local rain water drainage and control.
• The D-Raintank® is designed for underground use and consists of specially developedplastic modules with a storage capacity of 95 % of total volume. Compared to this, traditional gravel- or crushed rock soakaways attain approx. 30 % - 35 %, hence reducingthe necessary excavation by approximately 60%.
• The modules are light weight and their stability allows them to be combined to formalmost unlimited volume and styles of configuration. The stored rain water thenreinfiltrates or is discharged at a pre-determined and controlled rate.
• D-Raintank® is a highly economic alternative to traditional soakaways, at the same timereducing the cost to the environment.

The Problem and the Future DevelopmentThe local drainage, retention, cleaning and rainwater utilisation are fundamental to modern rainwatermanagement ensuring a long-term resource, protecting and providing cost effective provision ofclean and process water for the population.Rainwater: Large volumes of rainwater, especially with residential- and trafficked areas, are drawnfrom the natural water cycle and directly discharged to the natural drainage system. This dischargeis very expensive. Heavy rain quickly causes flooding and surcharging of sewage treatment plants.Land use: The share of residential- and traffic areas is about 12.9 % of the total area (approx.46,000 km2) in Germany. Experience has shown that half of this area is impermeable. This areamust be drained, a fact that has inevitable consequences for the water balance in general and thenatural ground water recharge in particular. In spite of renaturation, the constructed environmentrises by an average of 115 hectares daily.Local drainage: This kind of drainage supports the natural water cycleand thus discharges into the natural drainage system. It makes anessential contribution to flood protection in river basins, especially. The drainage on property is controlled by buildingregulations and site specific requirements. The soil characteristics have an importantbearing on the calculation of drainagecapacity, which will need to be approvedby the appropriate authorities.

The D-Raintank® can be used to drain even the smallestof industrial areas. Here the option as soakaway.
Soakaway for roof drainage in industrial estates. OptionallyD-Raintank®-Freeway units can be used for the upperlayer.
The D-Raintank® – The effective infiltration trench with multiple possibilitiesIn addition to the use for catchment of water from roofed - or trafficked- areas, the D-Raintank®
may be used in new residential areas, industrial plants, sports grounds etc. as soakaway. Itscapacity to store water and gradually release it can be used for the irrigation of parks and trees. For this particular use the elements will have to be shrink-wrapped into a water-tightPE membrane and may then be used as rainwater harvesting for future use.Freeway-Elements: On request, Freeway-Elements can be installed. Silts may be flushed outand removed later.Wrapped: The D-Raintank® is wrapped in D-Raintank®-Geotextile, which filters out fines. This fabric consists of mechanically bonded polypropylene fibres (PP) for water permeability.
The InstallationThe D-Raintank® system is successfully used throughout theworld. Installation fully in accordance with manufacturersrecommendations is paramount. Specialist contractors areavailable for this purpose. Technical information containingadvice and detailed laying instructions will be sent upon request.
