Word Work – Pick 1 each day!

-ck. Write a sentence to go with your
picture. Teachers make books by stapling blank
paper and construction paper.

Look at each picture. Say the word. Write the word underneath the picture. If the word ends with a -ck, color
the picture.

Make a copy of the “blends” page on 1 color card stock. Make a copy of the “ending chunks” on another
color card stock. Laminate and cut apart the tiles. Children will turn the tiles upside down and draw 1 of
each color. If they can make a word, they keep the tiles. Play continues to the next child. When time is
up, each word counts as 1 point. The player with the most points wins the game!

You may use your own letter tile sets or make copies of this sheet on heavy duty cardstock. Laminate and cut out a
set for each student if you choose.

For numbers 1-26, teacher will call out letter sounds and students will echo the sound then write
the letter.
For numbers 27-34, teacher will call out cvc words. Students will pound and say the word then
tap/segment each sound and write it on the lines.
For number 35, teacher will make up a story that sounds believable that leads up to the sentence.
Students will say the sentence and will pound and tap each word in the sentence.
