Govt meets fiscal deficit target of 3.4% for FY'19

The government has managed to meet the revised

fiscal deficit target of 3.4% of the GDP after it cut

last minute expenditure and rolled over fuel

subsidies to make up for the shortfall in tax

collection. The interim Budget presented in

February revised upward the fiscal deficit target to

3.4% from 3.3% of GDP estimated earlier for 2018-19.

India to grow at 7.3% in 2019 and 7.5% in 2020: IMF

India is projected to grow at 7.3% in 2019 and 7.5%

in 2020, supported by the continued recovery of

investment and robust consumption, thus remaining

the fastest growing major economy of the world,

according to the IMF. In 2018, India's growth rate

was 7.1%, as against China's 6.6%. In 2019, the

International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected a growth rate of 6.3% for China and 6.1% in

2020, according to the latest World Economic Outlook projections released ahead of the annual

spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

DBS Bank India launches the first edition of Hack2hire in Bengaluru

Through the initiative, it aims to hire over 100 of

the brightest minds in emerging technologies

such as Cloud Computing, AI, Machine Learning

and Big Data. The programme will focus on the

theme of ‘intelligent banking’. The initiative has

received over 2500 applications till date.

Hack2Hire Bengaluru will look to expand its scope and target to hire platform stability

New MD & CEOs appointed for IOB and Canara Banks

According to the Department of Personnel

and Training (DoPT), the Appointments

Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved

the appointments following proposals from

the Department of Financial Services, under

the Union Ministry of Finance. The list is

as follows:

Karnam Sekar, MD and CEO of the erstwhile Dena Bank, will take over as MD and

CEO of Indian Overseas Bank from July 1.

R.A. Sankara Narayanan, MD and CEO, Vijaya Bank, as MD and CEO in Canara Bank

with effect from "taking over charge of the post on or after April 1, 2019 till his

superannuation.

8th April elected as the new president of the

International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) - India.

He said the chamber would work with the

World Homoeopathy Day: April 10

World Homeopathy Day is being observed

today to commemorate the birth anniversary of

the founder of Homeopathy, Dr Christian

Fredrich Samuel Hahnemann. On the

occasion, the Central Council for Research in

Homeopathy, CCRH, is organizing a two-day

convention in New Delhi. The council will take stock of the challenges faced and formulate

future strategies for the development of Homeopathy in the country. The theme of the

convention is linking research with education and clinical practice.

IMF cuts global growth estimate to 3.3%

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on 9th

April cut its global growth forecast to the lowest

level since the financial crisis, warning of

significant downside risks to the world economy

including trade tensions, pockets of political

instability, mounting debt levels and increasing

inequality. The IMF lowered its growth forecast for 2019 to 3.3 percent from the previous level

of 3.5 percent in its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO).

Algeria’s parliament appoints close associate of Bouteflika as interim president,

Protests erupt

Algeria’s parliament on 9th April appointed its

upper house chairman Abdelkader Bensalah as

interim president following the resignation of

Abdelaziz Bouteflika after weeks of mass protests

against his rule. Protesters, who are demanding

sweeping democratic reforms, are opposed to

figures like Bensalah, a close associate of Bouteflika and his inner circle who dominated Algeria

for decades.
