Wider Curriculum Tasks

1 Knowledge Mat Challenge: Create a timeline starting with the Stone Age through to the Iron Age. Add images and key facts from each period. Use your knowledge mat to help you. Consider:

How many years ago was the Stone Age?

What order did the Iron Age, Stone Age and Bronze Age occur? Challenge

Research why these periods were called Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age.

2 Active Activity: Om and her family didn’t have modern play equipment like we do today. Most things in the Stone Age were made from stones and other natural materials. Invent a game for Om to play with her family and friends. Record yourself modelling how to play the game or write a set of instructions.

3 Life Skill: Om and her community, like all Stone Age people were hunter gatherers. This means that most of their food came from hunting (like the reindeer), fishing (like the men did) or gathering (like the children did). Learn how to peel fruit and/or vegetables (e.g. potatoes, carrots) that hunter gatherers would find.

4 Well-being activity: Draw around your hand and colour it in/decorate it. Ask 5 friends or family members to tell you one adjective (a describing word - e.g. intelligent, thoughtful) they would use to describe you. Write these on your fingers. Send me a message on Class Dojo when you are doing this activity and I will send you an adjective too! Stick your hand on your mirror to remind yourself what a star you are.

5 Creative activity: In the story, Om draws pictures on the walls. Create your own stone age wall. You could use chalk or water to draw on your walls or design them on paper instead.
