Avoid communal controversy over Doda Municipality: Dr Jitendra Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 9: Expressing concern over controversy raked up by a widespread public per- ception in Doda that realignment, delimitation and renaming of Municipal Committee wards in Doda city is biased in favour of a particular community, Dr Jitendra Singh, BJP National Executive Member and Chief Spokesperson, has appealed the administration to bring all sec- tions of civil society on board and take steps to dispel such an impression before it leads to an avoidable communal divide in an otherwise harmonious relation- ship among different communi- ties living in the area. Dr Jitendra Singh, said that though there are several other pending demands, including expediting the work to complete Ganpath Bridge, improving health and education infrastruc- ture and upgrading 50 year old middle school in Bijarni/Gaddi, but the issue of unanimously acceptable nomenclature and fair realignment of Doda Municipal wards with consensus deserves highest priority because of its possible negative fallout. He said that the erstwhile Doda district has always served as the most glaring example of communal amity for the whole of State especially during turmoil period. He said, moreover, realignment, delimitation or renaming of Municipal wards is a purely professional exercise and should not be influenced by any extraneous consideration adding that if this rule is not adhered to in case of Doda Municipality, it will set a bad precedence to be fol- lowed in other parts of the State. Dr Jitendra Singh called upon the leadership of all political par- ties, particularly the ruling coali- tion not to succumb to temptation of seeking mileage by appeasing one community at the cost of the other. He further informed that BJP Doda Mandal (block) led by its Mandal (block) President Munshi Ram Parihar and under the guid- ance of prominent local BJP leader Gajay Singh Rana have also made a formal representation on the issue to the Chief Secretary of the State. Prof Gupta contacted cer- tain high ups to know about the facts and regretted the style of functioning of the Coalition Government of the State was detrimental to the interest of the people. He said that instead of tak- ing realistic steps to remove the congestion in the city, some strange measures are being adopted in this connec- tion. Prof Gupta particularly referred to the need of con- structing flyovers in the much needed areas of Jewel Chowk to Talab Tillo, B.C road to Amphalla to Janipur and pointed out that projects have been put under the carpet and flyover is being taken up for execution from Bikram Chowk to Presentation Convent etc. He also referred to the many other problems facing to the people of Jammu and pointed out that by spending large sums the traffic signal lights have been raised which do not work at most of the crossings and proving just white elephants. Reminding that a high level probe was underway on the spu- rious drug case and the issue was sub-judice, Mr Dewan said that the anti-social elements were unnecessary jumping the gun just to speak against the Jammu based leader and create trouble ahead of Amarnath pil- grimage. “However, these elements would be thoroughly defeated and a line of action will be drawn for series of protests and dharnas here if voice of Jammu is muzzled,”he warned.
