An Spúinse

Féile an tsamhraidh

Lá breá samhraidh atá ann. Tá an ghrian ag taitneamh go hard sa spéir. Tá féile an tsamhraidh ar siúl i gCearnóg an Bhaile. Tá an áit dubh le daoine.Tá stallaí de gach sórt ann – bianna, ceardaíocht agus cluichí. Tá preabchaisleán ann do na páistí agus tá siad ag spórt is ag spraoi. Tá cleasaithe agus lámhchleasaithe ann agus tá aghaidhphéinteáil ar siúl ag bean. Féach ar na damhsóirí ag damhsa agus éist leis na ceoltóirí ag seinm. Tá Mam, Daid, na páistí agus a gcairde ag an bhféile. Tá Mam sna tríthí gáire mar tá sí ag caitheamh spúinse le Daid. Tá Daid fliuch báite. Tá Oisín ag déanamh a dhíchill leis an gcasúr. Tá Seán ag déanamh a dhíchill freisin. Ba mhaith leis duais a bhuachan. Ach tá Síofra ag magadh faoi, mar is gnách!

HeatHeat is a form of . It can be found in natural and forms. The greatest natural source of heat on Earth is the . Without it, no animal or plant life would be able to survive.

is a measure of how hot or cold something is. Temperature can be measured in degrees Celsius or degrees Fahrenheit. Thermometers are used to measure temperature. At 100°C water will and it will begin to change from a liquid to a gas. At 0°C water will begin to freeze and will start to change from a liquid to a .

The temperature beneath the surface of the earth is extremely hot. It is here that you will find , which is melted rock. The heat that is in the Earth can be used in some heating systems, particularly in modern homes. This type of heating is known as .

Conduction is the name for the of heat between objects. Heat likes to move from hot objects to cooler objects. Some materials allow heat to move through them and these materials are called conductors. is an example of a good conductor of heat. However, there are also materials that stop heat moving through them and these materials are known as . Wood is an example of a good insulator.

Heat can change the that some materials take, for example, when we heat chocolate it melts and changes to a liquid. When we take the heat away from the chocolate, its temperature will decrease, and it will become a solid once again. This is sometimes called a change.

However, sometimes heat changes the form of a material . For example, heating an egg on a frying pan will cause the egg to change completely. This change cannot be reversed

The Pool By Andrew Fusek Peters

We wade through corn like tigers on fire, And run the obstacle course of barbed wire, To follow the stream in a winding dream, Until in a corner, scooped like ice cream, Under the alders, a hidden pool, I trail my fingers in the willowy cool. The grass is bullied and nettles beaten, Blankets laid for food to be eaten We leap like salmon one, two, three, Dive bombers of this inland sea, Hit the water, bodies froze, Suddenly trout are tickling toes, The oak is a mast in the ship of shade Cows drift through the glassy glade Heads bent like old men reading the news, As beyond, the hills hold distant views Under the beaming fat lady sun, Witch of warmth, conjuring fun, Until she grows tired and a little bit low, And daylight packs up, ready to go! Oh why can’t summer last forever, And why can’t we take home this river? In twilight we stumble through itchy corn, Get caught on barbed wire with trousers torn, Sleepily falling into cars, To carry us home under rippling stars.
