. . . Greetings from my warm and cozy office!
Man, it’s good to be home for a short while before I hit the road one last time for this
year’s major stock show season. So far Ft. Worth, San Antonio and San Angelo have taken
place and Dallam & Hartley Counties have had an awesome show season!
With all my traveling lately it got me to thinking, “how many miles, on average, does a per-
son drive per year?” Interesting fact #1--According to the US Department of Transporta-
tion a female of the age group 20-34 drives 12,004 miles per year. I have no doubt that I
come very close to that each year! While I’m home the clothing and textiles project is
kicking off with the ‘Bi-County Textiles & Arts Extravaganza’. This is such a fun evening of
projects to help everyone get in the mood for the fashion and art spring season! Interest-
ing fact #2-- In the 1800’s fashion “shows” were called fashion “parades”. American retail-
ers adopted the concept in the early 1900’s and in 1903 the first fashion show was held in
New York City. As show season wraps up and spring contests begin, I want to wish all the
kids good luck and happy spring!! Shelby

Congrats to Bailey Dettle! Bailey has been invited to compete in
the 2014 Junior Olympic Shooting Championships in 3 Position
Smallbore Rifle. In January, there were qualifying matches held
across the country and Bailey participated in the qualifying
match at TCU. She shot a 522 on six targets. This was the
highest qualifying score in the state of Texas for girls age 11-
14. All of the scores across the country were sent to USA
Shooting and then they were compiled. Bailey was among 73 fe-
males in the United States that received an invitation to the
Junior Olympic Shooting Championships. The competition will be
held in April at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs,
CO. Best of luck to you, Bailey!
