Dalton Public Schools
More Students Graduating High School*Dalton Public Schools experienced a 27 percent increase in the number of students who graduated in 2013 over 2012. In only its second year to graduate students, Morris Innovative High School increased the number of graduates from 14 to 46, an increase of 229%. Dalton High School’s graduation rate was 90.90% for 2013.

College Entrance ExamsHigh school students in Dalton Public Schoolscontinue to perform well on the SAT and ACT. Also, more high school students are taking college entrance exams indicating more students are choosing to pursue post-secondary education options.

Dalton High School had its largest group of Advanced Placement Scholars in the school’s history in 2013.
Advanced Honors ProgramDalton High School provides 15 Advanced Placement (AP) or college-level classes for students. AP courses, developed by the College Board and taught by highly-qualified teachers, allow students who successfully complete the class an opportunity to sit for an exam that may result in college credit.
International BacclaureateDalton High School is one of only 26 schools in Geor-gia that offers the International Bacclaureate program. The challenging two-year curriculum leads to an IB Diploma that is widely recognized by the world’s lead-ing universities.

Dalton High Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Pathways More than 1200 students took a career technical course at Dalton High School with 166 students com-pleting three courses to qualify as a CTAE pathway completer.

DPSLiteracy Scores at 90% or BetterStudents continue to perform better than the state average on standardized tests. Reading and English/Language Arts scores are consistently in the 90 per-cent or above range for all grades. Students showed improvement over 2011-12 scores in all areas except fifth grade English/Language Arts, which was down by three points.
Math Scores Continue to ImproveMath scores are above the state average at third and fifth grades and only one point below the state average in eighth grade. Scores remained the same as 2011-12 in both third and fifth grade with eighth graders increasing math scores by four points. The district has focused professional learning efforts in the area of math instruction at all levels for teachers.
Assessment
Georgia High School Writing TestIn the Fall 2012 administration of the Georgia High School Writing Test, 94 percent of all Dalton Public Schools met or exceeded the standard. Morris Innova-tive High School had 48 students who were first-time test takers and 93.8 percent met or exceed the stan-dard. Dalton High School had 292 first-time test takers and 96.9 percent met or exceed the standard. Dalton High School had over 20 percent of those student who exceeded the standard compared to the state average of 9 percent. Also, 16 Dalton High students earned a perfect score on the writing test.
Eighth Grade Writing ScoresOverall, more students scored “on or exceeds target” in 2012-13 than in 2011-12. More Dalton students scored at the “met and exceeded the target” range than the state average.
