Dublin Declaration May 2013
As part of eHealth week the Irish Presidency called on the EC to support Member States in their efforts to deploy eHealth solutions through the development of ecosystems.
European Commission welcomes Irish declaration on development of ecosystems
European Commission Vice-President for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes and Health Commissioner Tonio Borg have welcomed the Irish
Declaration that member states implement eHealth Ecosystems.
Neelie Kroes said: "eHealth ecosystems could be the answer to the strain our social security systems are undergoing. If we work together and we use the enormous potential technology has to offer us, we can ensure top healthcare for all in Europe".
What is a Connected Health Ecosystem?
A Connected Health Ecosystem brings together all the necessary parties to deploy at scale connected health services efficiently and safely.
The parties include:
Commissioners and providers of health and social care
Patient groups, organizations
Research organisations
Industry providers of supporting devices, IT, software, telecoms, drugs and services, etc
ECHAlliance Connected Health Permanent Ecosystem
Patients must be at the centre of the Ecosystem as the users of connected health
services. Patients will help to drive the design and innovation in connected health services and in so doing
take more control over their conditions for better health and quality of life.

eHealth week 2014: Greece working with ECHAlliance for eHealth Forum Following eHealth week in Dublin in May 2013, Greece has announced plans for the eHealth Forum to be held under the Greek Presidency in May 2014. In a press release it recognised the introduction of the concept of "eHealth ecosystems" by the Irish Presidency, stating that it presents a true challenge for the further development of meaningful partnerships through the engagement of the entire range of health, wellbeing and social care stakeholders, from both the private and the public sector. It announced that it will be working jointly with ECHAlliance to facilitate industry engagement. At the Invitation of the Greek Government the ECHAlliance visited Athens in July and have actively worked with the Public Health Agency in preparations for the EHealth Forum to be held in May 2014 in Athens under the Hellenic Presidency. The first meeting of the Greek Permanent Ecosystem was held in Athens on 3rd October and has become the latest member of the International Network.
