Day 1 - Tue. Aug. 11- Get on board for a great western adventure. Get acquainted with your traveling com-panions. We will stop for breakfast and lunch along the way. Today we travel to our overnight stop near Springfield, ILL. We will have an included dinner before going to our hotel for a good night’s rest.

Day 2 - Wed. Aug. 12 -This morning after breakfast at our hotel we will travel to Springfield, Illinois, a city rich in memories of Abraham Lincoln, who lived here for 24 years. Lincoln's home in downtown Springfield has proved irresistible to visitors since it first opened to the public in 1887. Constructed in 1839 and beautifully restored to its 1860 appearance, the 12-room, Greek Revival house was Abraham and Mary Lincoln's home for 17 years. Next we will visit the Abra-ham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum, a 200,000 square foot complex situated in downtown Springfield. Here we can experience the Lincoln story in its entirety introducing people of all ages to what has been called “The Great American Story.” After our visit we will drive north into Wisconsin for our overnight stay.

Day 3 –Thur. Aug. 13- Today we head north Mid morning we arrive at the House on the Rock, a place that defies description. This architectural won-der, the original structure of what is now an extraordinary complex of buildings, rooms, streets and gardens, is built atop, and into a 60-ft. chim-ney of rock! We have time to explore this magnificent wonder before con-tinuing north to Wisconsin Dells for our overnight. At the Wisconsin Opry, we enjoy a buffet style dinner this evening, tour the farm on a hayride, then listen to the Dickinson Family Band entertain us with a mix of classic and current country music.

Day 4 - Fri. Aug. 14 - This morning we drive farther west to visit the Mall of America. We should arrive at the mall in the early afternoon. You will have the rest of the evening to explore all the mall has to offer. We will stay close to the mall and provide shuttle service to and from the mall. Since opening its doors in 1992, Mall of America® has revolutionized the shopping experience of tens of millions of visitors a year. A leader in retail, entertainment and attractions, Mall of America is one of the top tourist destinations in the country and is known around the world.

Day 5—Sat. Aug. 15 - Today we head south to visit Sioux Falls , SD. Here we will visit Falls Park. The Falls of the Big Sioux River have been a focus of life in the region throughout history. Native American peoples were the first to visit the falls and bring stories of them to European ex-plorers. They have been the focus of recreation and industry since the founding of the city of Sioux Falls in 1856. Today the park covers 42 acres. Each second, an average of 7,400 gallons of water drop 100 feet over the course of the falls. After dinner we will go to our hotel.

Day 6 - Sun. Aug. 16 - This morning we head into South Dakota. We will stop in Mitchell SD, and visit the world famous Corn Palace. The world's only Corn Palace is an outstanding structure which stands as a tribute to the agricultural heritage of South Dakota After lunch we continue west with a magnificent drive thru Badlands Na-tional Park. This land of sharp ridges, steep walled canyons, gullies, pyramids and knobs has been so ruthlessly ravaged by wind and water that it has become picturesque. The Badlands are a wonder-land of bizarre, colorful spires and pinnacles, massive buttes and deep gorges. Erosion of the Badlands reveals sedimentary layers of different colors: purple and yellow (shale), tan and gray (sand and gravel), red and orange (iron oxides) and white (volcanic ash). Then

we will arrive in Wall, SD, home of Wall Drug Store, where we will have our dinner stop. Wall Drug is the prin-cipal industry in the town of Wall. It's a sprawling tourist mall that occupies most of downtown and employs nearly a third of its population. Over a million people stop at Wall Drug every year -- 20,000 on a good sum-mer day. After dinner we will head for the hotel for a good night’s rest.

Day 6 - Mon. Aug. 17 - Today we visit Mount Rushmore. Mt. Rushmore stands as a shrine of democracy, a monument and me-morial to this country's birth, growth and ideals. Mount Rushmore symbolizes the greatness of this nation through the greatness of it leaders. The epic sculpture of Mount Rushmore depicts the faces of four exalted American presidents that symbolize this nations rich history, rugged determination and lasting achievements. After Mt. Rushmore we visit the Crazy Horse Monument. The Crazy Horse Memorial is a mountain monument under construction in the Black Hills of South Dakota, in the form of Crazy Horse, an Oglala Lakota warrior, riding a horse and pointing into the dis-tance. Next we make the drive to our next overnight, Deadwood SD, where Wild Bill Hickok was shot and killed . We should arrive in Deadwood by about 3:00 PM.

Day 8—Tue. Aug. 18—Today we drive north to one of the most iconic sites of the west, Devil’s Tower. The Tower is an astounding geologic feature that protrudes out of the prairie surrounding the Black Hills. It is considered sacred by Northern Plains Indians and indigenous people. Hun-dreds of parallel cracks make it one of the finest crack climbing areas in North America. Devils Tower entices us to learn more, explore more and define our place in the natural and cultural world After our visit to Devil’s tower we will visit the site of Custer’s Last Stand, The Little big-

horn National Monument. The Battle of the Little Bighorn was fought along the ridges, steep bluffs, and ravines of the Little Bighorn River, in south-central Montana on June 25-26, 1876. The combatants were warriors of the Lakota Sioux, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes, bat-tling men of the 7th Regiment of the US Cavalry. The Battle of the Little Bighorn has come to symbolize the clash of two vastly dis-similar cultures: the buffalo/horse culture of the northern plains tribes, and the highly industrial/agricultural based culture of the United States. This battle was not an isolated soldier versus warri-or confrontation, but part of a much larger strategic campaign de-signed to force the capitulation of the nonreservation Lakota and Cheyenne.

Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park is America's first national park. Located in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, it is home to a large variety of wildlife including grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk. No need to commit a crime to Do Time at the Territorial Prison. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, explore this 1872 imposing stone structure that held “evil doers of all classes and kinds.” Built first as a Federal Prison (1872-1890), it later became Wyoming’s State Penitentiary (1890-1903). During the 30 years it was in operation, 1,063 malicious convicts (men and women) walked through the front iron doors and occupied the cells. Butch Cassidy spent some time here. Now a museum, visitors can walk the halls where convicts were locked up, worked and lived.

Day 12—Sat. Aug 22—Today we head east to Nebraska. Along the way we will pass through Scotts Bluff national Monument. Tower-ing 800 feet above the North Platte River, Scotts Bluff has served as a landmark for peoples from Native Americans to emigrants on the Oregon, California and Mormon Trails to modern travelers. We will also pass by Chimney Rock another iconic landmark from the old west. We will spend the night near Kearney, NE.

Day 13—Sun. Aug 23— Today we continue traveling east to Kansas City. Here we will visit The Arabia Riverboat Museum. When the mighty Steamboat Arabia sank near Kansas City on September 5, 1856, she carried 200 tons of mystery cargo. Lost for 132 years, its re-covery in 1988 was like finding the King Tut’s Tomb of the Missouri River. The discovery was truly a modern day treasure-hunting story at its best. The artifacts are preserved and displayed at the Arabia Steamboat Museum, located in the historic City Market. From cloth-ing, fine china and carpentry tools to guns, dishes and children’s toys to the world’s oldest pickles—the collection captivates visitors of all ages. We will have a nice group dinner and overnight in Kansas City.
