Daniel 2:29 tells us that while King Nebuchchadnezzar was resting on his bed, thoughts went through his head wanting to know what would become of his kingdom in the future. While asleep God gives him a dream that troubled him so that it caused him to wake up some time in the night. When he awoke he could not remember the dream but remain troubled in his spirit.

Daniel 2:29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.

He called his magicians, astrologers, sorcerers, and the Chaldeans to tell him what his dream was. The "Magicians " practice magic in all other superstitious rites and ceremonies of fortune-teller's.  "Astrologers " made themselves out to foretell the future by the positions of the stars. "Sorcerers" used evil spirits to deceive (like contact the dead), potions, claimed to have supernatural knowledge much like modern spiritualism today. "Chaldeans" was applied by many writers of antiquity as "magi ", those that were adept in astronomy and also practiced astrology and magic. When Antichrist comes to power and forms his empire, you could expect to see an array of advisers to him like these.

Daniel 2:3-17 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.6 But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.8 The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.

10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

Dan 2:16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.

When Daniel found out in Dan 2:16 we read that went to the king and asked for some time and that he would tell the king the interpretation

Dan 2:19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

God gave Daniel the interpretation of the king’s dream in a night vision (Dan 2:19).

Daniel is now before the presence of the king and cannot resist adding to the king's displeasure of his magicians, sorcerers, Chaldeans, and wise men. Daniel is basically saying, if they claim to be able to do all the things they say they can do, then why could not their gods interpret the King's dream. Daniel then tells the King that his God which is in heaven reveals secrets, and this God in heaven is telling King Nebuchadnezzar what shall happen in 'the latter days'.

Daniel 2:27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;

Daniel 2:28 is the key verse and the whole purpose of the King's dream. As we study the interpretation of the King's dream we will find out that God is giving the king a full revelation of the nations that will make up Antichrist's empire in the 'the latter days'. The kingdom that will last forever that Daniel told the King will be the one that Christ establishes on earth when he returns and defeats Antichrist and His empire. The generation that will see the return of Christ and the establishment of His Kingdom is what God means by  'the latter days'.

Daniel 2:28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;

Daniel 2:31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.32 This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.

Daniel 2:34,35 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

Daniel 2:31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.32 This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them:

Quick review before interpretation

Dan 2:35 and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

Daniel 2:36-38: This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

Daniel 2:39:

And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee

The Persian Empire was inferior in that it did not have the wealth, luxury and magnificence of the Babylonian Empire but was greater in extent. At its greatest extent, the PersianEmpire extended from northern India to parts of Asia Minor. Cyrus the Great conquest of Babyon in 539 B.C. ended the Jewish exile prophesized by Jeremiah that would last70 years allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem. Daniel lived to see the fall of Babylon Empire to the Medes and Persians as recorded in Daniel 5:1-31 Daniel 5:1-31 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

6 Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

8 Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.

9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.

10 Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:

11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.

13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?

14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.

15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:

16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.

17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

18 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:

19 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.

20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.

22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.

26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.6 Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. God had prophesized 175 years before by the hand of Isaiah the Prophet that Cyrus the Persian king would not only conquer Babylon but God named him by name before hewas born (Isaiah 44:28; Isaiah 45:1-4).

Isaiah 44:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.

Isaiah 45:1-4 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

Daniel 2:39:

And another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over the whole earth.

In Daniel chapter 8:6,7 Daniel saw a ram defeated by a he-goat. The angel sent to Daniel to help interpret these beasts tells Daniel plainly in Daniel 8:20,21 the ram with two horns (one higher than the other) is the Medes and the Persians. The he-goat that attacks and defeats the ram is the Grecian Empire. The notable horn coming out of the head of he-goat was the first king. Anyone who knows history of the Grecian Empire knows that it was founded by Alexandar the Great.Daniel 8:20,21 The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.21 And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king. When Alexander the Great was barely 20 years old he set out to conquer the whole known world, particularly Persia. In a few years he had freed almost all neighboring lands from the Persians, and his domain stretched as far east as India. The Egyptians welcome him as a liberator, and the city of Alexandria was named for him. By 331 B.C. at age 25, he was proclaimed king of all Asia. Alexander died young and left no heirs. After his death in 323 B.C. his lands were divided among his generals who ruled them until they fell to Rome one by one.

Daniel 2:40:

And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

Thighs of ironRoman Republic 200 +/- B.C. Empire 27 +/- B.C.

(Caesar Augustus – first emperor)

Notice first. That iron though inferior to gold, silver, or brass, can easily bruise these metals. This is exactly how Rome ruled; by brute strength and an iron rule. The Roman Empire at its peak in the A.D. 100’S covered about half of Europe, much of the Middle East, and the north coast of Africa. The empire began to crumble, partly because it was to big for Rome to govern. What makes the Roman Empire different from the Babylonian, Persian, Grecian is that it was never conquered. The Babylonian Empire was conquered by the Persian Empire, Persian by the Grecian Empire, Grecian Empire by the Roman Empire. As we study the iron in the image, this fourth kingdom, the Roman Empire land area further divides into two as shown in the two legs of iron, and later in its history further divides as shown in the two feet and ten toes of iron mixed with clay.

Daniel 2:41: And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

Following the division of Roman Empire into both East and West division.The next period of history was old Roman Empire divisions developinginto nation-states

Daniel 2:42,43

42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

The ten toes of iron and clay is the final form of the Roman Empire land area. The nation states that were developed in the feet stage are now the nations of Eastern and Western Europe that would exist in the generation that sees Christ return. This is confirmed in Daniel 2:44 where Daniel says that in the days of these kings (the 10 toes-nations) God would set up a kingdom that would last forever. Daniel 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. The clay in the toes is the human element as man was made out of clay or the dust of the earth (Gen 2:7). This element is what makes for separate ethnic cultures and languages and unique identities that keep these nations separate (Spanish, French, German etc,). Daniel tells us as iron does not mix with clay (Daniel 2:43) the people shall mingle themselves with each other but not cleave to one another. It is this rational

that prevents the nations of Europe from being united as one empire sharing same language, culture, government. However, in these last days these nations will unite behind one man they elect to follow who will not only dominate their history but the whole world till Christ returns. This manin the Bible is referred to by many names but most often as the ‘Antichrist’. Daniel 7 introduces the person and rise of Antichrist from among these nations and how he gets them to come under his control. Antichrist will revive the whole land of the Roman Empire, Babylonian, Persian, Grecian Empires and other land into one last mighty colossal Empire of the last days that ends in Christ’s return and Antichrist’s defeat. When one considers Europe today how true are the words of Daniel 2:43 that these nations shall mingle themselves with the seed of men but not cleave to one another as iron is not mixed with clay. In other words, Europeans travel, live, and trade within their different nations but just as iron is not mixed with clay the French will always have a French government, Spain a Spanish government and so on.

Ten toes – nations today that exist within the old Roman Empire land area

What is the revelation concerning the last days, in which Daniel tells us this whole image will bestanding before and at Christ’s return when it is then Destroyed.

  The remaining verses of Daniel 2, tells us a great revelation about the image, and how it foreshadows the empire of antichrist standing in the last days as a mighty defiant Goliath, only to fall to God's eternally prepared stone - Christ - the eternal Son of God. Daniel did not know the future names of the nations that Antichrist would dominate in the last days, but identified them by the world empires they were in the past. Remember, Daniel 2:28 says this image standing is a picture of what shall happen in the latter days.

Daniel 2:28 is the key verse and the whole purpose of the King's dream. As we have studied the interpretation of the King's dream we identified gold, silver, brass, iron as the Babylonian, Persian, Grecian, Roman Empires. But now we will see that God is giving us a full revelation of the nations that will make up Antichrist's empire in the 'the latter days‘ when this whole image stands up before Christ’s return when it is destroyed. The kingdom that will last forever that Daniel told the King will be the one that Christ establishes on earth when he returns and defeats Antichrist and destroys his empire. The generation that will see the return of Christ and the establishment of His Kingdom is what God meant by  'the latter days'.

Daniel 2:28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;

Daniel 2:31 says this image was of an excellent brightness - in other words - the reality of what the image symbolized will be very evident in the last days after Antichrist has come to power. Antichrist will dominate all of these land areas that made up these past empires. Daniel seven and Daniel eight tells how this will happen. Daniel 2 is telling us that even though these past world empires have come and gone in the past yet in the last days what remains of them will be resurrected and together they will be united as the final empire of man before Christ returns to set up his kingdom. Iraq, Iran, Greece, and nations in East and West Europe will make up the main part of Antichrist's empire.

Daniel 2:31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.

Gray area – extent of Antichrist’s Empire

Daniel 2:44,4544 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

This Stone (return of Christ) smiting the image at it's toes is telling us that in the last days of the nations in East and West Europe (10 toes) Christ will return. The whole image crumbling foreshadows the return of Christ and His victory over Antichrist's goliath empire.

The stone (Christ) who was rejected of men the first time and would be despised by the gold, silver, brass, iron in the King's image, God has chosen to be the cornerstone of an everlasting Kingdom1Peter 2:6,7 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

  A mountain is used in many scriptures to denote an empire or kingdom. A mountain would have many stones - that is - many people. This one stone mentioned is different in that it is made without hands - not man made. The only person that fits this truth is the birth of Jesus Christ from a virgin during the time of the Roman Empire as recorded in scripture.

Daniel 2:45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands,

Isaiah 7:1414 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Matt 1:1818 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Scripture also records the return of Christ to set up God's kingdom and defeat the reign of antichrist and both his kingdom and his armiesRevelations 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

The Rock (Christ) becomes a mountain and fills the whole earth

Daniel 2:35 and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Daniel 2:4545 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

When Christ returns and defeats Antichrist and his armies then Christ and the saints will rule over the whole earth (Kingdom). This is an important truth Christians should contemplate now as they await the return of Christ.   What one does as a Christian for Christ determines their position in the future Kingdom of God when it is established on the earth. The parable of talents Jesus taught in Luke 19 speaks of this truth. Those that used their abilities wisely were rewarded openly when Christ returned and set up the visible Kingdom of God over the whole earth. There will be those given authority to rule over 10 cities as opposed to those who rule over five.

Luke 19:17-19 17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

1 Corinthians 3:13,1413 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

Jesus famous prayer known to many as  'Our Father' in Matt 6:9-13 always looked forward to the establishment of the visible Kingdom of God. This is the same visible Kingdom Daniel is speaking of when the Rock became a mountain and filled the whole earth.

Matthew 6:9-13 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.11 Give us this day our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Isaiah 11:2-4 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted abovethe hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall

not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Isaiah 11:99 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

  Daniel 2 leaves us with these truths. The Babylonian, Persian, Grecian, Roman Empires will be resurrected again - not as the former empires of their past but the land area these empires covered.
