My name is Daniel Fishel, and I am an illustrator originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After attending undergrad at the Uni-versity of the Arts, I moved to Queens, New York in pursuit of a expanding my illustration opportunities and to attend gradu-ate school at School of Visual Arts. Since then I have worked for publications like The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, Nylon Guys Magazine, The Stranger, Air Tran Go! Magazine and many others.

WAIT A SECOND HERE, WHO ARE YOU AGAIN?

The work I create is about balancing visual elements to support the content it’s paired with. When my illustrations are coupled with a particular piece of content, it’s usually because the artwork needs to be conceptual, poetic, a little mysterious and iconic. I work hard to look past overused cliches to produce images that tell stories in fresh new ways. To get to this point, I draw from personal experiences and mix them with the subject matter pro-vided to create a piece of artwork.

For example, when dealing with a piece of writing about “How traveling on the road can lead to a higher existential understand-ing of ones self.” I’ll try to look at what I’ve experienced and meld it together into the art. A figure with a backpack looking upon the open road can work as a concept but how the figure inter-acts with the road in connection with this higher understanding makes for a better, more interesting illustration.

WHAT MAKES MY WORKDIFFERENT FROM OTHERS?
