1.1 MODEL 1838 PREAMPLIFIER

Product Description

The 1838 noise-canceling preamplifier is designed for long-term use in turbine meters. On-line meterproving is accomplished via the optional independent terminal II connection without causinginterruption or interference to the main signal transmission. Maintenance and calibration technicianscan plug into terminal block II and connect mobile readout instruments or prover electronics.

The 1838 preamplifier is available in two options:

1. Basic preamplifier: Model Number 1-504-05-500

2. Preamplifier and prover (or readout instrument) pulse output: Model Number 1-504-05-501

The Daniel 1838 preamplifier provides noise rejection features and offers output configurationflexibility to readily interface with most instruments including PLCs. The amplifier offers normaloperation from 5 to 40 Vdc, with load-dump protection to 60 Vdc and reverse battery protection.Brief periods of short circuited outputs can be tolerated, and normal output currents up to 250 mAare possible. Sensitive amplifier inputs are protected from high frequency ElectromagneticInterference (EMI) as well as static discharge, and normal operating signals up to 200 V peak topeak. All power and output connections are protected from modest local lightning discharges.

2.0 1" INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE - WAFER STYLE

Spin Test

A spin test is an indication of the meter bearing condition and should be carried out if there is areduction in meter accuracy. The test is carried out before meter disassembly by simultaneouslyactivating a stop watch while giving the rotor a quick spin. The time it takes the rotor to coast to acomplete stop is the “spin down time”.

A spin test is conducted on each turbine meter prior to calibration and shipment. The spin down timewill be indicated on the calibration curve supplied with each meter.

The typical spin down time for the 1" Mini Gas Turbine Meter is 15 seconds.

Meter Disassembly:

1. Remove diffuser retaining ring from downstream side of housing.2. Pull out downstream hanger/shaft assembly.3. Remove rotor nut.4. The rotor assembly should now be easily removed.5. Check rotor blades for signs of damage. Replacement rotor assemblies are available (P/N

390-01-212).6. Remove bearings and bearing spacers.7. Replace bearings, P/N 504-53-145 and 504-53-115, if necessary.

Meter Assembly:

1. Replace larger bearing (504-53-115) and bearing spacer on the rotor shaft. 2. Slide on rotor assembly.3. Place upstream bearing (504-53-145) and bearing shield (rounded side out).4. Replace and tighten rotor shaft nut.5. Slide hanger/rotor assembly into downstream side of meter body.6. Replace downstream retaining ring.

Installation kits for the wafer type meters are available on request.
