Created PepsiCo Five-pillar Water Strategy:

(1) water efficiency improvement in our direct operations;

(2) extending conservation to our supply chain, particularly

agriculture;

(3) pursuing integrated watershed management;

(4) partnering to help provide community access to safe

water; and

(5) stewarding public water advocacy and engagement.

Jointly created inaugural PepsiCo Foundation

Strategy & Portfolio of Water Partners who, together,

helped surpass PepsiCo’s public goal by providing over

9MM people access to safe water.

Co-created and championed PepsiCo’s policy to

respect water as a human right, which continues to

garner external recognition from shareholders, NGOs, and

agencies of the United Nations, including the CEO Water

Mandate and the Independent Expert/Special Rapporteur

on Water and Sanitation as Human Rights.

Led or significantly contributed to PepsiCo’s receipt of

four external water awards over four years:

• Prestigious Stockholm Industry Water Award;

• US Water Prize;

• Notre Dame Global Corporate Adaptation Prize; and

• CECP Leadership Award for a strong portfolio of

partners which delivered 9MM people access to safe

water.

Co-designed and managed a novel 10-year partnership

with the Pennsylvania State University Sustainability

Institute to create a Sustainable Food Systems minor,

advance sustainable agricultural practices, and research

the behavior of recycling.

Worked with PepsiCo Environmental Sustainability Team

on strategies and solutions to improve operational water

use (by 23%, saving $17MM and about a billion absolute

liters of water).

Vision , Strategy & Partnership

Through Board Service

Dear Mrs. Nooyi,

How are you? I hope this finds you well. It is an honor to reach out as you shared one my favorite talks from Aspen; I

loved your honesty and vulnerability in sharing how to lead in both personal and professional life (the story about your

daughter's class coffees was deeply honest- thank you for sharing). Thank you for being such a role model for millennial

leaders like me to emulate.

For the past eight years, I have been leading the Millennium Campus Network to train a new generation of global

development leaders on university campuses (story here). This journey has led us to meetings with President Obama

in the White House, hosting a global summit at UN Headquarters, and partnerships with some of the biggest

stakeholders in the world for the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

On rare occasion, someone comes into my life that represents the bold refreshing leadership our world needs. In this

case, I wanted to write to you to acknowledge one of your colleagues, Mr. Dan Bena. I met Dan when we both

addressed an audience of 800 at the UN. In the last twelve months we've built out a fantastic friendship; he has shared

with me your vision with Performance with Purpose and a strategic pivot with $10 billion+ of your portfolio in especially

nutritious offerings.

What has also struck me is how proactive Dan has been in forging connections for us. After we brought together Dan,

Jeff Sachs, and more friends at the UN, Dan secured a keynote role for us at Jeff's summit at Columbia. He then

facilitated a fantastic meeting with Penn State, which is now considering joining our network alongside our current

members like Babson and Georgetown.

Over the years we've worked with partners at Microsoft, HP, Jenzabar, the UN, UN Foundation, and many others. I

haven't found anyone quite like Dan and view him as one of the best brand ambassadors in the private sector today;

and thankfully he is in a place to champion a bold vision of Performance with Purpose.

I wanted to write on the eve of Thanksgiving to share my thanks with you and PepsiCo for focusing not just how money

is allocated but also on a sustainable path to generate revenue. I told Dan I wanted to write PepsiCo and while I know

he never asks for acknowledgement, I feel very passionate about acknowledging how fantastic he has been for us at

the MCN.

If I can elaborate or be helpful in any capacity, please do reach out anytime. Thank you to you, Dan, and PepsiCo for

reminding me what leadership looks like.

Happy Thanksgiving!

“Dan Bena is an amazing leader and sustainability expert. He brings a

broad range of global connections, experience and practical

experience across companies, cultures and polices to direct strategy

development and issues management in the sustainability field. Dan

has led large teams of people, both directly and indirectly, in a position

of influence and senior counsel. He has an excellent reputation as a

leader and works collaboratively across large organizations with the

overall goal of achieving business results. Dan shapes the external

perception of the company to provide an interactive and mutually

beneficial dialogue with key external stakeholders to promote and

protect PepsiCo's corporate reputation. He is an exceptional company

social media connections. He is able to translate complex ideas and

company forward. He is considered a global thought leader on

water issues, and on sustainability both inside and outside of

the organization. He understands the business case for

sustainability at PepsiCo and always works towards it. He has

great intelligence combined with great judgment. I recommend

Dan without reservations.”

“Of the many corporate leaders I have worked with I have seen few who

are as clear as to their personal and professional goals, and

demonstrate the ability to infuse others around them with the same

sense of purpose. Our interactions over the last 3 years have revealed

him to be an extremely thoughtful person, with unparalleled integrity and

commitment to seeing positive change in all aspects of sustainability. He

is sweet and mild, while being forceful and effective. He listens carefully,

and makes his points gently yet clearly….Dan has influenced leadership

inside and outside the company as to a model agenda for a global

company to serve its customers, as well as those who are unserved by

societal institutions, including the environment. The challenges of the

21st century focus on the faltering economy, but underlying that are long

term resource constraints related to water, energy and the environment.

Dan is well placed to lead any group that wants to think seriously about

these issues and move plans and thoughts into action.”
