Career Summary

Summary

Most people start learning skills that they will use for their careers when they get their first job. I can honestly say I started developing my skills and experiences at a very young age, as far back as I can remember actually. My grandfather owns a family farm and it was our job to run it. We learned structure such as when each individual cow needed to be milked, what fields where needing to be tended to, and feeding times. This brings me to time management, this all needed to be timed just right and if just one person did not follow through it was very costly. We also had to work very closely as a group, nothing was written down when one person left, that person would tell the next person exactly what had been done and we would then just know what we would need to do from there.

As I grew older, my father had bought two gas stations, an oil route, a garbage route, and a construction company. I started gaining knowledge with business with the gas stations but really took off in the construction company, B&R Construction. My position was management, I wrote out all payroll checks and financial transactions, created all documents that were needed including a workmen’s comp claim we had, helped bid and negotiate on jobs, screening and evaluating potential employees and selecting candidates for positions. This position started me on my path to education at the Chippewa Valley Technical College. I received my associates degree there in May of 2013 for Human Resources along with a certificate for Human Resources Generalist also received May of 2013.

For my internship, I was fortunate enough to be able to complete it at the Chippewa Falls Workforce Resource Center. At that time, a large company (Pactiv) had just shut down and I was working with seniors that had worked there for up to 35 years. Some that had not even made it past ninth grade, never to have even touched a computer and now had to work with me to sign up with many programs to receive their benefits and look for jobs. One older woman even committed suicide. After working very close with these people I gained many skills in a short period of time such as dealing with grieving employees, patients for all of them for they were very angry at first and to this day when they see me they still thank me for all I did for them. The leadership skills I already had excelled and developed even further with cross generations, when I was there I taught some classes on resume writing, public speaking, job searching, along with individual and group mock interviewing.

As soon as I was graduated, I was employed with Aurora Vocational Services. Here I was an Employee Specialist and some of my duties included going to numerous companies and speaking to them about creating and hiring employees with disabilities. Assessing the applicants of their skills and abilities for employment, creating job development plans with Department of Vocational Rehabilitation

counselors that best regards applicants’ goals that they have already created with us. We also write monthly reviews, reports, and summaries of applicants and follow up until they are considered stable. This was another very different culture I was introduced to and adapted too immediately.

I then went on to get my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin Stout with a Degree in Bachelors of Science with a major in Business Management and an emphasis in Human Resources, which I will be graduated in the summer of 2016. With all my skills this is exactly what I was made to do. I have an amazing ability to work with people and enjoy doing so. I am enriched with trust, values, moral, ethics, structure, communication, documentation, and some of my best qualities and favorite strengths are labor policies and laws (state and federal), recruitment and selection, marketing and pitching ideas (I also do this now for a nonprofit organization as their marketing and donations coordinator), along with challenges. I have no problem handling pressure and being put on the spot, I can make quick effective rational decisions if need be. I look forward to meeting you.

Goals

My immediate (next 6-12 months) goals for my career and skills development are: First I would like to pass my classes that I currently have left to take at UW Stout

with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Then this summer I plan to graduate and find a secure position as a Human Resource manager or in a management position in a company with good core ethics and values that I can put forth my skills and start gaining experience.

I would also like to have the opportunity to offer employees a more open door policy where employees and management both feel more comfortable to speak freely within respect to procedures to their Human Resource manager. For these days Human Resources and managers are stereotyped as people no one wants to have to talk to and I would like to change that. Leadership is a very important part of gaining trust and respect of your employees and showing them they have someone they can count on as a leader.

My short-term (next 12-24 months) goals for my career and skills development are: At this time, I should have made well enough progress in the company to prove

myself as a professional effective Human Resource Manager or manager and will have made the company’s employee turnover decrease with the ideas that I have, creating an increase in retention and finances for the company.

Next, would be to see if there are any possible openings in the near future and if so what does that position entail? Would I be a good fit for this position? When I found one I liked in the company I could move forward with it and would then talk with management about what the qualification is for that position, start job shadowing, and start working on moving up in the company. I also have all the qualifications for management along with upper management.

My long-term (next 24-48 months) goals for my career and skills development are: By this time, I hope to have worked my way up in the company out of entry level

Human Resource Management. This is when I can show my strengths in patients and the ability to make effective decisions under stressful and pressured circumstances. I can also truly show how great leadership and managerial qualities I have. I also do not mind speaking publically and believe training and sometimes refreshing courses and updating safety training courses need to be taught and a cost effective way of doing so is having a knowledgeable HR person staffed and that would be me. I believe it would be ideal to train groups every so often when things are a little slow or when they need to be done.

At this point, I would like to feel stable for the time being in my position at the company to gain more experience yet of course always willing to move up if the position is the right fit. I would also like to have created a strong culture within the company with my open door policy, that including the relationships between the managers and employees as well. The turnover rate will still be down as well as saving the company money and keeping employees around that you do not have to train all over again.

Dear Human Resources;

My name is Danielle Rihn and I am interested in a position at your company with in Management. I have been researching your company and know that the company would be the perfect match for me. I have always been very passionate and dedicated to my schooling and to my work and projects. That being said I would be very interested in a position available at your company in the area of Management/Human Resources and would like to discuss meeting with your team to get to know my skills and me.

I will be Graduating from the University of Wisconsin Stout, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resources along with the Associates degree in human Resources I have already acquired with a certificate in Human Resource Generalist. During my time at school, I would like to point out that, one of favorite classes included recruitment and selection which passed the class with a percentage of 110%. I also received a 110% in my Capstone class as well. Another class favorite of mine was Human Resource law. I did receive presidential Honor Roll multiple times and have letters of recommendation from instructors I have had. I believe my other qualities from work experiences have given me many skills to become a great investment to your company as well. From working with all four generations in the workforce, to being patient, open minded, and people oriented, I have had many times where I had to think fast on my feet and make clear respectful decisions. In my spare time while being in school I have also been keeping the position of being the coordinator of a nonprofit organization called LiL’ Rascals Refuge that a I have raised thousands of dollars for puppy mill dogs and kill shelter dogs saving them from being put down. My overall ethics and values are equal to your company and, me being a great contribution to the company. My skills and education would contribute a great deal to the position that I am interested in. Along with your business in general. I am very thankful for your time and consideration. I look forward to speaking with you soon after you have time to look over my credentials. Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Key Coursework

Organizational Leadership- structure in an organization is a process and it needs to be followed. If the leader or manager does not show structure or organization than neither will the employees that are lead.

Recruitment and Selection- you need to fit the person to the position if they are not a right fit it just will not work out. This also works with culture within the company as well you really need to screen potential employees.

HR Law- one of my favorite classes, there are so many grey lines and changing laws and policies, it is very important to stay up to date. Most of all document everything! Memory is not enough, the company is always vulnerable, and we need to be reliable and responsible.

Business Management- knowing exporting, importing, different types of management skills that need to be known going into a business environment.

Benefits- Knowing what all goes into benefits and what they truly cost a company is very important to know for a HR representative. Most people think all their benefits should be free when they have no idea what it really cost a company usually it is about half their salary.

Professional

Professional Affiliation s/ Memberships

SHRM- Society for Human Resource ManagementThis society keeps Human Resource professionals up to date on the new laws that are evolving state and federally along with cases that have been made for examples to companies on how they may want to run thing or not to. It also gives ideas on reward systems and lets other HR managers talk among each other to bounce ideas around.

Chamber of Commerce- I recently just became a member of the chamber of commerce. I believe in their values and ethics of building up their local businesses and helping out the community. I also like how they engage in bringing youth into the business world in an ethical manner and would like to help them in their goals.

LiL’ Rascals Refuge- as of right now I am the fundraising, marketing, and donations coordinator for this nonprofit organization that saves puppies and dogs from puppy mills and kill shelters, get them spayed and neutered, vetted, fostered and then adopted

Recommendations

Pamela Dixon, PhD2470 Wilson St.Wilson, WI [email protected]

To whom it may concern:

I had an opportunity to work with Danielle Rihn during fall semester at Chippewa Valley Technical College where she was a student in a class I taught, Employee Benefits. It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for her as part of her search for an Internship.

Danielle is a highly motivated and engaged student who demonstrated her a commitment to learning and ability to manage multiple priorities. Danielle excelled when she participated in group projects. Her team knew they could count on her to complete her portion of a project on time and submit high quality work. Further, her interpersonal skills and ability to quickly build rapport with others made her an effective team player.

Danielle will make a great addition to any organization in an Internship role. She will dedicate herself to continued learning and make a strong contribution to her team, just as she has done in the classroom.Sincerely,

Pamela Dixon

To Whom It May Concern:

I am pleased to strongly recommend Danielle Rihn. Danielle graduated from UW-Stout in 2016 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Management. The program which is online is aimed at returning adults that bring progressive career experience and is focused on building their capacity to move up into management positions.

Danielle took an Organization Leadership in which I taught. I have found that Danielle is naturally self-motivated and eagerly dives into learning maximizing the outcomes of course. She has a keen mind, works hard, and seeks to continually grow professionally from the multitude of experiences and course work within the major. I believe Danielle also ‘practices what she preaches’ and actively seeks feedback and incorporates it into her own personal development. She is a true professional that continually seeks to increase her skill sets through application of knowledge.

I am extremely pleased to write a recommendation on her behalf. I believe that Danielle is a superb candidate for this position. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 715-232-1372.

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to strongly endorse Danielle Rihn as a candidate for this position and employment with your organization.

Although I've only worked with Danielle Rihn since 2015 she immediately impressed me as a highly-talented and conscientious person. She was a student in the Management Capstone course I teach. The quality of her work is extremely high. Danielle’s leadership and technical skills on a High-Performance Team Project were particularly impressive and professional. Her work ethic reflects a positive influence toward other peers in my class.

As my student, she contributes to both the responsibilities and efforts this online capstone course requires. I was pleased with her pledge to perform at her fullest. She brings strong industry experience into the course and shares it with her classmates.

She is an extremely hard worker and has a knack for being able to multi-task. Danielle Rihn always meets deadlines and her work is impeccable.

Accomplishments

Professional

Working for the nonprofit organization Lil Rascals Refuge I have alone raised over $5000 dollars for them and was offered the positions Marketing Coordinator along with Donations Coordinator.

Top Seller, when I worked at Younkers you needed to try to have people open credit card accounts. No one ever liked doing this but for me it was fun and I ended up being on the top ten lists just about the entire time I worked there. I won multiple prizes and gift cards for it as well.

Personal

Presidential Honor Role, I received this award multiple times and was published into the paper for it. I also graduated with a great GPA with my associates in Human Resources.

Saved a Life, I signed myself up to be a bone marrow donor not thinking they would ever find me a match, well they did and I went through with it and it is definitely something I think of as an achievement.

Over the last two years, I have taken in kill shelter dogs from Alabama and the local area (over 20 of them) and rescued them, fostered them, and adopted them out to families.
