Habitats of GeorgiaDanielle Ruff
CES3rd Grade
What are Habitats and Environments?Where Things Live
Fish live in waterBirds live in trees and fly through the airMost plants grow where there is soil, water,
and sun.Living things can be found almost
everywhere on Earth.Pg. 266
Where Things LiveEverything that surrounds a living thing makes up
its environment.Plants and animals use things from it environments
to meet their needs. Many living things may share an environment and
its resources.FoodWaterOxygenSpace
If the environment has too little of any of these things, the living things compete with one another to get what they need.
Pg. 267
Parts of an EcosystemAn ecosystem is made up of all the living and
nonliving things that interact in one place.Georgia has many different ecosystems.
There are many kinds of living things in an ecosystem. However they don’t all live in the same part of
the ecosystem. The place in an ecosystem where a plant or
animal lives is its habitat.A habitat includes both living and nonliving
things.Pg. 268 &269
Living Things and Their HabitatsMost living things can survive only in a
certain habitat.A polar bear, for example, could not find the
water it needs in a desert.A living things habitat gives it everything it
needs to survive.Pg. 270
Changes to EcosystemsAll living and nonliving things in an
ecosystem interact. When one part of an ecosystem changes, it
can affect all the other parts.People can change ecosystems.
When we cut down trees or drain wetlands, we destroy the habitats of many living things.
These living things must find new places to live.
