Issues and SolutionsOur actions can lead to

positive change.Issues, problems, issues! There are big and little issues and problems that concern a lot of people. Some problems and issues have obvious solutions while some issues and problems seem to have no solution.

In your Exhibition process you will get a chance to apply your skills as an action taker to some of these issues and problems. You will be choosing a real problem(either local or global) and carefully working through to a solution and take some action to help this issue or problem.

Working through this Exhibition journal will help you organize your time and resources to discover the best solution to your chosen issue or problem.

Good luck!

Inner Journey

Expanding your interestsSelect one of the interests you brainstormed in your journal and discover the different paths that could be explored. Use the model demonstrated in class to help you.

Health and safety

Screen Addiction is

with it because of how people always stand in front of an

electric device

Food is also with it because people and kids need to have

enough food to be healthy and stay fit not like in Africa

some people get sick because they have no food and the die

of hunger.

Slavery is important with

it because people don’t

have the right to put other

people to work and be mean.

Diet also is important because you need to keep your body balanced and fit

because if you don’t you can get sick and you will not be

healthy.

State the Issue or Problem

• Brainstorm real life issues or problems that you think need a solution. Look around you and think about the problems that exist in your school, your neighborhood, Zurich, Switzerland, or elsewhere in the world.

Inner Journey

Our actions can lead to positive change.

In Japan there was an earthquake and a tsunami

people have been suffering all days

lots of people died and some are alive but don’t have houses or light to live. To me it makes me

feel sad because I cant go and help

them

In my family all my grandpas and grandmas are

dead except one my grandma she is alone and that is a

big issue for me because she lives

alone with no one and misses

everyone so when I visit her I always try to make her

happy.

Page 7: Daniels Exhibition journal

Why is this a problem/issue?

• You have chosen this problem for a reason.• How does it affect your life or those around you?• How does it affect your feelings or emotions?• Why do you think it is important?

Why do you feel a resnsibility for this problem/issue?

Inner Journey

Our actions can lead to positive change.

I have chosen this topic because people suffer andsomeone in my family is addicted to a game.It affects me because of the problems outside us peoplegetting hurt and loosing the chance to enjoy live.I think this is important because I care about what isgoing on in the world and also how people get sick.

REFLECTION 1Our actions can lead to

positive change. You have chosen a topic. •Has it changed from your first thoughts? How and why? •Are you happy with this development? •You have been put in a group. Who is in the group? •Why are they in your group? •Do you think the group can work co-operatively and effectively? How and why?•What did you think about your first week of collaboration?

My topic has stayed the same because from first day I heard that something Like that was going to happen and the first thing that came was Screen Addiction.Yes, I am happy with it because we have got good information but when we get books we cant fined any.Well, In my group there is Alex, Jared, Julia and me.They are in my group because they wanted to study the same thing and we all have the same idea.My group can work well because we all tell each other what we have planed to do and who does what. Are first week we were really exited and did not do much because we did not really know what to do.

Developing Lines of Inquiry

You have defined your problem/issue in relation to Form, Function, Causation andResponsibility.Look at the remaining two Concepts to clarify your lines of inquiry

Connection How is it connected to other issues/problems?The different connection or that people go out and hurt kids. It is also connected to bullying people. It is also connected to slavery because people get aggressiveand do what the games do.

Perspective What are other points of view?

That old people play wii and then they move there arms. Also educational games are good because they learn things.

Searching and Collecting

Our actions can lead to positive change.

Page 10: Daniels Exhibition journal

Our Process – Searching and Collecting

People to whom we spoke:

Name: Mrs. Sikora

From this person we learnedthat we should have good facts as well because in everything you do It’s good that there is a reason thatIs positive.

Surveys we created and distributed

The group surveyed: Grade 5Number of people surveyed: 80

Important conclusion we can make from the results:

Important information from our Advisor

He gave us good websites to create our action and preparing it well. I also learned from him that we need to concentrate on one thing.

Page 11: Daniels Exhibition journal

Process Reflection

These are things I thought about our topic before BUT now I think differently

Before I thought that it was just looking at a screen for a hour but it is much more then that. People skip meals and someone in south Korea died because

of screen addiction.

The are ideas I had about our problem/issue before AND I still have nowI still think its something bad because people don’t get to enjoy

the sunny weather outside because they are in front of a screen the whole day.

These are things about our problem/issue that still challenge us and we still wonder about

Who helps screen addicts to stop being addicted and how do they help them?

We would like our audience to leave our presentation with these “BIG UNDERSTANDINGS”

Synthesizing and Connecting

Our actions can lead to positive change.

Page 12: Daniels Exhibition journal

Think of Solutions.ACTION

Brainstorm a wide range of ideas that could help solve this problem/issue

Here is your chance to be creative. Write down all possible answers. Do not discard any yet because this is your chance to start thinking outside the box to find a creative solution. Be creative, unusual, fanciful, practical and obvious. S T R E T C H your imagination

• Sending an email to a game website• Giving papers around the school for people to see• Going to a smaller grade and showing them our work.• Go to a Sony shop and tell them our problem• Making a movie so people can enjoy and also think about our ideas• Making a poster

Our actions can lead to positive change.

Make your Action Plan

Examine all your solutions and put them through the S M A R T test.

How will your action affect your problem?

Our action will affect our problem by showing smaller kids what a big problem it is.

Who needs to be convinced?

The whole school needs to be convinced by us but mostly the 3rd graders because they are a good age to tell.

What objections might you come up against?

We might come up against things that people need to know how they get into a game.

How can you overcome those objections?

To overcome that you need to explain things good to grade three and also get goo facts.

What resources will you need?

We will need I MOVIE, Prezi.

Who can help you? Are advisor can help us with what we need.

Where should you begin?

We should begin with our movie to make it fun and the big information is always at the end.

What will be your next step?

Our next step will be going to the 3rd graders and also sharing it to the parents.

Who will do what - to achieve your action?

Each person will say one thing with different parts.

Our actions can lead to positive change.

REFLECTIONActing and Sharing

We can make a difference

We went to the 3rd grade to do a presentation. Our action was very good because we chose the right group of kids and we chose 3rd grade because it’s the time when they start playing on there laptops and getting video games. At the beginning the 3rd graders were not asking questions so we were a little worried because we thought they were bored but they were not bored in a while they asked millions of questions.

Page 16: Daniels Exhibition journal

Exhibition Night Reflection

Our actions can lead to positive change.

When we did our presentation my group was a little nervous. When we started, we were all okay because everyone knew what to say and what to do we did zero mistakes when we did our presentation. Also, when we presented to the smaller kids on Wednesday we were all tired and not in the mood of presenting.

My Final Message Is…

My final message is that screen addiction is really important for people because if you start you can never stop. •Also my message is that our group enjoyed the whole thing of the exhibition.
