Invitation to Breakfast for Vendors Supporting our
Technology Network Infrastructure Upgrade
Katie Hernandez and Frankie Jackson invited the vendors
working with us on the Technology Network Infrastructure
Upgrade for a breakfast on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the
ISC West building on Jones Road, 2nd floor in lab 3, for
the opportunity to sign our technology infrastructure
upgrade strategic partnership commitment (see to the
right). This is not a formal meeting. This will be a come
and go event between 8:00 a.m. to noon. We will be
serving breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. We asked
vendors to stop by at any time.
The purpose of the breakfast is that we understand our
success depends on our vendor’s contributions. We want
to recognize them as part of our implementation team. As
we enter into phase 2 of our upgrade, their signature will
serve as a personal honor code of commitment, pledging
to do everything in their power to make our technology
infrastructure upgrade program a success.
All Technology Services staff that are supporting the 2014
Bond are also invited!

Examine the accessibility to broadband services for schools, libraries,
and institutions of higher education. Study the feasibility and
affordability of providing scalable broadband to schools and other
public institutions. Research federal and state funding opportunities to
support increased access to broadband. Review innovative efforts by
school districts to integrate technology in the classroom. Explore ways
to enhance high-tech digital learning opportunities in the classroom to
improve student achievement and fulfill future workforce demands.
Frankie addressed all four areas of
concern sited by the committee. She
closed by asking for their support
with:
1) The 10% State E-rate matching,
2) Their help in putting pressure on
broadband carriers to provide low
cost home access.

Visit at Langham Creek High School with U.S. History
Classroom Teacher Is Very Positive
Frankie Jackson visited Mr. Jeffry Jones, a U.S. History teacher at Langham Creek High School, on May 13, 2016
to find out how well the new technology is working in his classroom, now that the network has been upgraded.
This year, Langham Creek had a complete network infrastructure refresh, including new network electronics,
wireless access points, high-speed wireless access with dense deployment and Bring Your Own Technology
(BYOT) implementation. The following is a summary Mr. Jones’ comments about all that has been completed.
May 13, 2016
U.S. History Classroom with Mr. Jeffry Jones at Langham Creek
Great comments from Mr. Jones:
• We have made great strides and he is
very appreciative.
• His classroom was a disaster two years
ago; now, he has no complaints!
• It is nice to be able to count on things to
work. All issues have been resolved.
• We’ve done everything he asked for, e.g.
new tablet/laptops, BYOT, fast wireless
access, and appropriate Internet content
blocking.
• His students are happy to bring their own
devices with high speed access!
Actions taken, needing improvement:
• Laptop batteries not holding an all-day usage charge; he has to charge them up in the middle of the day.
• Campus as a whole needs new projectors. They are at the end of the promethean board replacement cycle.
• He and many other teachers have no need for the document cameras (hovercams); they are still in the boxes.

Closing Message and Reflection for the Week

Technology Services VISION
Be the district that transforms education
MISSION: LEAD in Providing
World-Class Quality K-12 Systems
These are the
guiding core
VALUES for how
we provide
service
Efficient
Accessible
Systematic
Highly-Skilled
Student-Focused
Service-Oriented
As I participated in the Texas House of
Representatives Education hearing on Thursday
about connectivity, innovation, technology
integration, high-tech digital learning – and I
listened to other districts talk about their challenges with
funding, skills, access to viable connectivity options – I was
thankful to be part of the CFISD team. I was there to ask for
support in bringing Internet to students without access at
home. Everyone else was asking for support to bring
adequate access to their school districts. I was counting my
blessings that we are so far ahead! – Frankie Jackson
