This is an eleven week term which finishes on December 19 th and has one Public Holiday November 4 th for Cup Day. As always the term will be action packed beginning with the Spring Fete on Saturday October 18 th . Other term 4 events and experiences will include the Year 6 Exhibition, Italian Day, Preps for 2015 Transition Program, Year 2 sleepover at Science Works, a range of sporting activities including the Year 5 & 6 Beach Program, Step Up to 2015 Program and Transition experience, Grade 6 to Year 7 Orientation Day and Year 6 Graduation. Add to this planned curriculum, assessments and completion of reports, a number of excursions and the usual end of year traditions and celebrations and it will certainly be a busy time. So please check the ‘Dates to Remember’ on a weekly basis and check those school bags for notes. Amazing Holiday Works The project to upgrade the ‘Quiet Play Area’ during the term break was certainly a success. This work has been on the priority list for a significant time, but has missed out over the years as our limited grounds works budget has been taken up on so many other urgent works. In 2014 we have finally been able to clear away all of the uneven surfaces and provide a safe attractive area for students and the community. This was made possible this year due to the very successful fundraising work of School Council and its active fundraising subcommittee along with the generosity of Kingsville families and friends. The success of the recent Fun Run and the funds raised was vital to the project going ahead. the Buildings & Grounds subcommittee and parent volunteers who demonstrated great flexibility in working around the contractors to ensure a finished project. The final effort of moving these very heavy planters from the front of the school, painting them and planting them up was hard work but, well worth the ‘super human’ effort.

Staff Years of Service At Kingsville we are fortunate to have a number of teaching and support staff who have worked for long periods of time and in doing so have contributed greatly to the success and achievements of the school. The Victorian Government provides recognition of 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service at official ceremonies. When a Kingsville staff member achieves one of the above milestones regardless of years at Kingsville, it is very important to acknowledge this significant achievement within our own school community. Congratulations To our long term staff member Mrs Seyit who is being acknowledged for her services to education in Victoria. Sheri Seyit has now completed 35 years of service with DEECD and amazingly all of these have been here at Kingsville Primary. Matt Dunkley, CBE. Regional Director will make a presentation to Sheri at a “Recognition of Service” ceremony on October 15

th.

Generations of students in this area have benefited from being a student of Mrs Seyit’ s as she has worked in so many different areas Prep – 6 and specialists areas including Library, Visual Arts and Literacy Intervention. Retirement of a “Kingsville Legend” Carolyn Withers, Assistant Principal of KPS has been a staff member at Kingsville for 21 years, 15 of these as Assistant Principal. Carolyn returned from a period of Long Service Leave this week and I am pleased to say she will work on during Term 4, however will officially retire at the end of the school year. There will be many tributes and acknowledgements regarding Carolyn’s esteemed career this term and planned opportunities for students, parents and community and staff to farewell her in appropriate style. This information is just an early notice of this important retirement. Very recent news I have just found out that Carolyn Withers is also being acknowledged for her 35 years of service at the same ceremony next week. So well done Sheri and Carolyn we are all very proud of you.

Thank You From Dale Schumann and the Buildings & Grounds sub committee Many families would have now seen our refurbished quiet play area. This project was designed by the buildings & grounds subcommittee and approved by School Council earlier this year. In addition to the contracted project, a great deal of other work was carried out by volunteers lead by the B & G president Leah Mannion. Leah and I were assisted by parent volunteers Kirraly Schumann, Nicole Harmer, Nicole & Dale Ipsen, Pauline Mckenzie, Mike Lagastes, Sam Elg, Howard Ralley & Meredith Jaffray . The B&G committee are very proud of the work they have delivered this year including the down ball wall and the new safe and friendly quiet play area. We wish to move ahead in 2015 with many more projects to keep improving our school. Please note however the more parents we get to help the more work we achieve.

Choir news The Kingsville Prep-6 and grade 6 choirs will be performing at the Kingsville Spring fete (Saturday 18th October) at 12:45pm on the main stage. Students involved in the choir who are attending the fete are asked to assemble next to the stage at 12:35. Students are not required to wear school uniform. Hilary Fairlie Performing Arts teacher

Fun Run Prizes – Update Since my last update the prize orders have been nearly finalised. There are some students who have returned donations without nominating a prize from the booklet. It may be the case that the booklet got separated from the donation pages but I need each family of the students below make contact with the office and record their student’s prize nomination so that the order can be placed. This needs to be done by Wednesday night 15/10/2014
