PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE It is hard to believe December is upon us. I would personally like to thank all the coaches, volunteers, and students for an outstanding fall in our extra-curricular activities. We had a large contingent of student involvement and that speaks volumes to the outstanding students we have here at Walter Murray. Thanks to our parents as well, for all you do in supporting your child. The report cards were handed to students on November 14. Please take the time with your child to review the descriptive comments made by the teachers to impact future learning. Thanks! Once again, the musical led by Mr. Soucy was simply, spectacular. “We Will Rock You” showcased our talented students in a variety of roles. To see so many students on stage and behind the scenes make these truly amazing performances for families, staff, and students was very inspiring. We also made a tremendous amount of money to support our holiday hampers through raffled items and 50/50 draws. Thanks to Ms. Palmer, Mrs. Christ, and Ms. Levesque for their tireless work in making this happen for the Walter Murray Community. The last day of school before the holiday season will be Friday, December 20. School resumes on Monday, January 6. The School Community Council will host a Course Selection night on Tuesday, January 14 beginning at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Final assessments will begin on Tuesday, January 21. Semester two begins on Thursday, January 30. All the best during the holiday season!

Tom Sargeant

LINK CREW

Link Crew has had a strong presence this fall at Walter Murray. There was a lot of buzz at Orientation Day to kick off the school year, followed up by the Homecoming Football Game in September. Link Crew Leaders have been going in to Grade 9 Advisory Classes to do team building activities, always with a meaningful lesson to be learned. Most recently, Link Crew helped deliver report cards to the Grade 9s and set academic goals for the rest of the year. Whether it’s Grade 9 Parent Night, or Marauder Morning, our Link Crew is involved in building relationships and a strong sense of community. Stay tuned for many more events to come!

REMEMBRANCE DAY

Thank you to all the students, staff, and guests who attended the Walter Murray Remembrance Day ceremony. Many students and staff participated in the organization, readings, musical selections, and the technical production of the program. The silent respect that radiated in our gymnasium among our Walter Murray students confirms our young peoples’ heartfelt gratitude for our veterans’ past and present ultimate sacrifices.

YEARBOOK ORDER

In order to be on the yearbook list, all fees including yearbook, must be paid by April 3, 2020. An alphabetical list will be posted on the main office window mid January of students whose yearbook order is confirmed. If you have not ordered a yearbook, the cost is $30.

WRESTLING

Practices began on December 2nd right after school in the wrestling room. Everyone from grade 9 to 12 are welcome! Last year we had a very successful season with a very young team. Our junior girls’ team is the city champions. Also, our girls’ team are city team dual champions. Our first competition was on Saturday, December 14, 2019 when we hosted our own tournament, the Gil Wist pre-season wrestling tournament. Over 500 athletes from all over Saskatchewan will be coming to Walter Murray.

SENIOR FOOTBALL

The Senior Football team was very competitive this year, with many of our games coming down to the last minute. After losing two close games to finish the season with a 3-3 record, we matched up against Aden Bowman in the semi-finals. In the regular season, we had beaten Aden Bowman 20-15 in a very hard-fought game. The semi-final game was very similar with the game again coming down to the final minute. The Ma-rauders put together a valiant comeback attempt that fell just short. The whole team deserves a lot of credit for battling hard all season and working together as a team. We will truly miss the grade 12’s who showed great leadership and set the tone for future Marauder football teams to come. Thank you to the following grade 12’s for their dedication and leadership: Noah K., Koal E., Cade J., Matt Y., Aaron M., Ken E., Reid J., Kohl K., Quinn L., Blaine J., Reed P., Mike B., and Matt R. We look forward to having an outstanding group of grade 11’s coming back next year to go with a strong group of grade 10’s coming up from a very successful junior football team.

THANK YOU!! The Holiday Hamper Committee would like to thank all of the generous donations made by various people in our community that helped this year’s drive become a resounding success. Our donation total this year is over $8,500.00. From businesses, to artists and artisans, to individuals who donated their time, we would like to thank you all. Your donations will help many families right here at Walter Murray this season and throughout the year. Sincerely, Janet Christ and Kristie Palmer

“WE WILL ROCK YOU, THE MUSICAL!”

The cast, crew, and supervising teachers would like to extend a sincere thank you to the community for supporting Walter Murray’s 2019 production of the musical “WE WILL ROCK YOU”. The show involved a large number of students who volunteered their time and talents to make the show a success. The annual fall musical at Walter Murray is a time-honoured tradition that allows many WMCI students to pursue their creative passions, while building self-confidence and forming lasting friendships. The show ran from November 24 to November 30. We would also like to thank the community for the generous support of our fundraising efforts during our performances where we raised money for the charity, Stepping Stones Inc. who sponsors school building projects in the Philippines, the Walter Murray Music Department, the Light & Sound Club and Food Hampers for families in need in our community. Thank you and see you next year!

TAKE OUR KIDS TO WORK DAY—A HUGE SUCCESS!

On Wednesday, November 6, over 200 grade nine students from Walter Murray spent the day at work with their parent or another adult. The success of this program is largely due to the generosity of our business community in accepting these students into their work places. Some of the students were given special tours designed to introduce them to the many facets of the workplace. Students were safely given workplace tasks that introduced them to new employability skills.

Many nearby businesses generously welcomed our young adults and gave accolades on the students’ positive demeanor and work ethic. Way to go Marauders!

ATTENDANCE

You are still able to report a student absence by calling our attendance secretary at 306-683-7955 or email: [email protected] or please feel free to use the SafeArrival.

SafeArrival

You are asked to report your student’s absence in advance whenever possible using one of these convenient methods:

SchoolMessenger app (free)

Get the app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store (or from the links at https://go.schoolmessenger.com).

1. Tap Sign Up to create your account.

2. Select Attendance from the menu, and then select Report an Absence.

Web and Mobile Web: go.schoolmessenger.com

Whenever an absence is reported or updated, you will receive a confirmation notice by email (assuming you have provided your contact information to the school).
