Bossa Baroque and Garota De Ipanema Differences● Garota De Ipanema does not have any tempo or time
signature changes during the song
● Bossa Baroque is mainly composed of electronic synths while
Garota De Ipanema relies on the acoustic guitar and organ
throughout the song
● Garota De Ipanema has lyrics
Bossa Baroque and Garota De Ipanema Similarities ● Both songs have a fast tempo
● Both contain similar chord extensions and voicings to
accompany the melody.
● Both songs have similar drum patterns that rely heavily on
kick drums, hi-hats, and shakers for the quickly swung
groove.
Secondary Link● The secondary link between the two songs’ is the open
improvisational style. Grusin has been known throughout his
career to add enormous amounts of improvisation over his
pieces, which adds to his unique style. This improvisation can
be heard in the chorus sections of Bossa Baroque. Since most
lead sheets for Garota De Ipanema only contain the simple
melody and chords of the song, it is expected that musicians
add their own style of improvisation to the song.
Primary link● The primary link between these two pieces of
music is the quick paced drum pattern that is
very prominent in the Bossa Nova style of music.
Hearing both pieces would be recognizably
similar by the drum patterns alone.
