Kelvingrove Lawn BowlsCentre

TheKelvingrove Lawn BowlsCentreenjoysa dramaticsetting next toKelvingroveArt Gallery and Museum.There isa long tradition of lawn bowlsat Kelvingrove, and the facility herehasbeen upgraded to international standards, with the reconstruction of five competition bowling greens.

Royal Commonwealth Pool

TheRoyal CommonwealthPool wasdesigned by RMJM Architectsin 1967 for the Edinburgh 1970CommonwealthGamesand wasusedagain for Edinburgh 1986.Thevenueunderwent major refurbishment to itsexisting facilitiesand saw the additionof a warm-up pool and dry divingarea in preparation for the Divingcompetition at Glasgow 2014.

Specially designed and built to host the Hockey competition, the facilitysitsadjacent to Glasgow Green andthe Glasgow Green Football Centre.It featurestwo synthetichockeypitchesaswell asathlete and official support areas, and actsasheadquartersfor Scottish Hockey.

Hampden Park

Glasgow’sfamousHampdenParkhosted theAthletics(Track & Field)competition and the ClosingCeremony.Home of the national football team, it wastransformedin preparation for the Games,engineersraising itsplaying surfaceby 1.9 metresto create a temporarytrack and field venue.Thisisthe first time the technologyhasbeen usedon such a large scale and with IAAFsupport; theapproach isalreadybeing termed the ‘Glasgow solution’in worldwide athleticscircles.

Scotstoun SportsCampus

Scotstoun SportsCampusformedoneof the precinctsof the Games, hosting both Squash and TableTenniscompetitions.The venue isa popular sporting and community resourcewhich includesthe National BadmintonAcademy, an indoor tenniscentre and other fitnessfacilities. Six new permanent squashcourtswere added, with a temporaryglass-walled show court used duringthe Gamesto give spectatorsasuperlativeview of the action.

TollcrossInternationalSwimming Centre

TheSwimming competition tookplaceat TollcrossInternational Swimming Centre. Thevenuehasbeen extensively refurbished andextended, with the existing 50m, 10-lanepool joined by a new50m, six-lane warm-up andtraining pool.

Cathkin BraesMountain BikeTrails

Set against a backdrop of ancient woodland, steep slopesand wide-openspaces, theTrailsoffer a spectacular panoramaof the city beyond.Apermanent facility, the venuemakesthe most of the varied terrain to provide achallenging coursefor riders.Itskey features− including BrigO’Doomand Clyde Climb −were named by localschoolchildren.

TheSECCPrecinct wasthe largest venueprecinct of the Games, hostingthe competitions for six sports.TheSSEHydro herehosted theGymnasticscompetitionsaswell asthe Boxing Finalsand Netball medal matches.Thebuilding hasestablisheditself as a world-classmusicvenueand isequipped with cutting edgetechnology and digital specifications.

TheAthletes’Village

TheAthletes’Village washome tothe majorityof athletesand officialsduring GamesTime.

Developed byGlasgow City Council with City Legacy (a private-sector consortium), and designed by RMJM, the Village isat the heart of one of Europe’slargest regenerationareas, bringing a legacy of new homesandjobs to Glasgow’seast end.
