Davis Lakers stopped by our Tree Trimming Party to say hi to old

friends and add an ornament or two to our tree. Thanks to all who

took the time to stop by and celebrate with us. For those who did

not get the chance to join us for our Tree Trimming Party, please

stop by the clubhouse and see our beautiful tree all decked out for

the holidays and check out these photos.

More pictures on page 8.

Clubhouse Makeover update… as you can see as you drive past

the clubhouse these days lots of work is underway. The roof has

been replaced and painting has begun. Windows will be installed

this week as well as finishing the siding. I am sure our Clubhouse

will look spectacular when it is done. See some photos of work in

progress.

Holiday Decoration Disposal… please remove all lights, garland,

and ornaments from your Christmas Trees, wreaths and roping and

place curbside. The City of Charlotte will pick up and dispose of

properly. Please DO NOT put these items in our common/wooded

areas or lakeside.

I would like to wish all my Davis Lake Friends and

Neighbors and wonderful, peaceful and joyous Holiday

Season. Julie

Davis Lake Networking Committee

The Networking group met on 11/11 we

welcomed a new member to the group. We

spent some time looking at a Personal

Marketing Plan. This is a document that

folks can use to keep them on track in their

job hunt as well as hand to a recruiter to

show them the companies they are target-

ing, highlight their skill sets and what not.

Good tool for sure!

We also ventured out to the www and

looked at 4 sites that you can use to get

actual names of potential hiring managers

for positions you are applying for. This is

a great follow up to hitting “submit” on

career builder. The suggestion is that, to

the best of your abilities, you try to find

the name of a person at the company you

are applying for and send them the same

cover letter and resume your used to apply

on line.

The sites we visited are:

www.linkedin.com

www.spoke.com

www.jigsaw.com

www.cogmap.com

For December the session is still work in

progress, but here’s a teaser…… we plan

to meet at 11:30 and celebrate the holiday

with a couple pots of chili, some fresh

bread and drinks. After the lunch we will

have a session and should end by 1:30. All

we need is …. YOU! We would love to

see some of our alumni!

If you are UN or UNDER employed De-

cember’s session would be a great way to

get to know some of the other members in

a low key way! Don’t be shy, join us to-

day, it’s FREE! Also look for our group on

LinkedIn, just search by groups for the DL

Networking/Support Group and request to

join. Lot’s of good stuff posted there!

Stay positive and continue to ……. NET-

WORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!

working and Support Group.

TBI…Traumatic Brain What???

Have you or your child ever had a concussion? If so, then you

have experienced a brain injury. Recently there has been lots of

publicity concerning brain injury among football players and the

ability or inability of their helmets to protect them. As reported

in the news, the majority of injured soldiers returning from Iraq

and Afghanistan have sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

You may wonder why I am writing about this subject.

As some of you know, the topic of brain injury is a passion for

the Foil family. Marty Foil’s younger brother sustained a brain

injury in 1984 which prompted his family’s involvement in TBI

on the local, state and national levels. We are ecstatic that in

2011 our biggest fundraising and awareness event in the Char-

lotte area celebrates its 20th anniversary, January 29th. As we

approach this event, part of our goal is to increase public aware-

ness of the frequency and severity of brain injury and how Hinds’

Feet Farm, Inc. (HFF), a non-profit in Huntersville and Asheville,

is serving individuals living with traumatic and acquired brain

injuries. HFF is the culmination of the Foil family’s dream for a

unique day program that shifts from the traditional medical

model for people living with brain injury, to an independent,

community model that embraces a holistic health and wellness

orientation, empowering its members toward occupation and

meaning in life. Day programs at both sites run Monday through

Thursday. This winter we are starting construction of a six-bed

residence in Huntersville that will be for full-time care.

We invite you to make the short drive out to Black Farms Road

and see the facility and to witness the wonderful work that is be-

ing accomplished there. Our caregivers, community volunteers

and student interns are guides for the members in various oppor-

tunities for exploration and self-esteem in their new identity and

meaning in life post-injury. You can read more at

www.hindsfeetfarm.org and I encourage you to take a look

through the wonderful pictures and read “A Mother’s Story.”

As we approach the holiday season and the end of the year,

preparations are underway for our twentieth annual black-tie

gala, the Checkered Ball. We understand that the current econ-

omy brings many financial challenges. It affects everyone. But,

if you have the means and are interested in this cause, have been

touched by what you read on the website or have experienced

TBI in some way in your life, we invite you join us at the event

on January 29, 2011 at the Westin uptown. There is a fabulous

dinner, dancing, and wonderful silent and live auctions. The cost

is $150 per person, $300 per couple and $1500 for a table of ten.

You can find more information about the event and other ways to

contribute at www.thecheckeredball.org., or you can call the

Foils at 704.596.5810.

I wish all of you a happy and healthy holiday season.
