Introduction
Bismillahi Rahmani Raheem
This is a working guide to help you in conveying the message of Islam moreeffectively.
Presented in this guide are logical steps in delivering the message of Islam. It followsthe GORAP approach which has been developed and proven to be the most effectiveda'wah method by Abdurraheem Green (IERA).
GORAP stands for
God Existence of AllahOneness Tawheed (Oneness of Allah (aza wa jal))Revelation Qur'anAnd
Prophethood Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu alayhi wa salam)
This is the order that you should aim to present the message of Islam ensuring thatin a short conversation you would be able to deliver the most important message ofIslam - Tawheed (Oneness of Allah).
When speaking to people about Islam first try to diagnose them to see what ispreventing them in becoming a muslim. For example, if they do not believe in a
Creator then you would first have to prove to them that a Creator (Allah (SAW))exists before actually speaking about other aspects and benefits of Islam.
Then start from the topics in this guide presenting them in order and making surethat the prospect agrees with you as you go along (do not make this a monologue). At the end of the conversation make sure you ask for the Shahadah!
Remember that you are doing this FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAH (aza wa jal). You areonly delivering them a message, only Allah controls their hearts. So if they rejectanything you say do not take it to heart; make du'a for them and later on analyse theconversation and this way you will improve your da'wah skills.
We would appreciate any constructive comments or suggestions that you may have.

1.01 Beginning of the universe
If something has always existed it doesnt need a creator.
In the first part of the 20th century some physicists held the view that the universe had always existed.
However, according to Cosmology the universe had a beginning some 14 billion years ago with a cosmic
event commonly known as the Big Bang.
Imagine you heard a loud bang, and you asked where did that sound come from? Would you be satisfied
with the answer that it came from nothing and it just happened? Of course not. You would say what was
the cause of that loud bang? In the same way, rationally the Big Bang must also have a cause that bought
it about. Now we can ask since the Big Bang has a cause, what was the cause of that cause? Then we can
ask, what was the cause of that cause? And so on and so on. But this cant go on forever and must end with
a first cause, because of the following example:
1.02 The first cause
Imagine a pilot is ready to take off with his plane and calls the control tower to get permission to take off.
The person at the control tower tells the pilot to hold on while they seek permission from someone else
higher up. So the guy higher up seeks permission from the guy even higher up and so on and so on. If this
goes on forever, will the plane ever take off?
The obvious answer is that the plane wouldnt be able to take off. The only way the pilot can take off withhis plane is if someone gives permission without asking for anyone elses permission. That person would be
the first cause of the pilot taking off. In the same way, the Big Bang must have a first cause.
We can conclude that this first cause must be powerful as it bought the whole universe into existence, and it
must be intelligent as it caused the laws of science which govern the universe.
Also, this first cause must be timeless, spacelessand immaterial, because time, space and matter began
at the Big Bang. Finally, since it is uncaused it must have always existed.
All of these attributes of the first cause make up the basic concept of God. God is the uncreatedfirst cause of the universe.

1.10 We can't see God!
We cant see God but there are many things that we cant see but we believe in them because we can see
their effects.
For example, you have never seen your great great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather.
You have never seen his clothes, house, grave or any of his belongings. So how can you be sure he ever
existed?
You know he must have existed because you exist.

He neither begets nor is
born
1stdegree of reason. God had no wife. In order to have son, two parties need to come together to form a
son. Ask, How can Allah have a son when He has no wife?.
There is nothing that is
fathered that does not
inherit.
2rddegree of reason. Having a son does not befit God's Majesty. Ask them, does God steal or kill? They
will say no. Then say, it does not befit His Majesty right? They will say yes. Then say it is the same like
having a son, it does not befit His Majesty that Allah has a son because were giving him human attributes,
need company, need lineage, need a son to do something for Him. Counter reasoning could be, the son
needs to be in human form to experience human life, to understand human. Reply with Allah created
everything, he is the All Knower. Allah says Does not the Creator know what he has created?. Instead
Allah sent prophet Jesus (as) as a messenger as human so he could show humanity how to worship Allah
and live in this world.
3rd degree of reason. Everything that begins to exist have a cause. They could ask who created Allah
who created the universe? Allah is uncaused. Use analogy of a soldier A asking another soldier B for
permission to shoot. Then soldier B ask soldier C and then continues in infinity. The result is soldier A will
never shoot. As the Universe is created, this is proof that Allah is uncaused.
Jesus (as) is actually a prophet. Too many verses in the Qur'an mentions this. The Bible also mentions
this.
...This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.Bible, Matthew 21:11
...Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people.Bible, Luke 24:19
God is not comparable to anything. Compare Jesus (as) to Adam (as). Adam has no father and no
mother. Ask, Why is Adam then not son of God? Surely he has more right than Jesus being the first manalive? Compare Jesus to other prophets such as Abraham (as) explain the miracles he had given by Allah.
Then ask Why you dont say other prophets are son of God?

Always go for the most simple explanation. The reasoning below is used once you establish that Allah
exists and the oneness of Allah.
1stdegree of reason. Allah is fair. It is not fair that Allah does not let us know that He exists and what is
good and bad and suddenly resurrect everybody on the Day on Judgement. Therefore Allah must have sent
down warners/messengers. It does not make sense that Allah suddenly appears on television informing us
or sends a golden book in the middle of a village. Therefore Allah sent prophets. It makes sense that
prophet must be humans to communicate with other humans and be example for humans.
2nd
degree of reason. Allah sent a final messenger as nations before altered the true message and
killed their messengers. Nations before killed their messengers such as Zachariah (as) and John (as).
Allah is kind and forgiving, He sent other messengers after them. Once nations before altered the message
e.g. Mosaic teachings, Allah sent down Jesus (as) to bring the authentic message. Once his nation disobeyed
and tried to kill him and then altered the message, it makes sense Allah sent the final messenger
Muhammad (saw) who brought the final authentic message, the Qur'an which is a miracle (as described in
section 3 above).
The Quran states so. Allah says that Muhammad (saw) is His final messenger in the Qur'an. One verse to
use, Say [O Muhammad to mankind] If you really love Allah, then follow me.
Chapter 3, Ali Imran
verse 31
Allah says, Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and
the last of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.Chapter 33, Al-Ahzab

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) claimed prophet-hood over 1400 years ago. His message was
simple:There is none to be worshipped but Allah and he (Muhammad (SAW)) was the Messenger of
God.
To test whether this claim is true we must rationally investigate the historical narratives and testimonies
concerning the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Once we do this, we will be in a position to come to
a balanced conclusion in this regard.
1. Did he lie?
Further proof of the Prophets (SAW) reliability and credibility is enforced and substantiated by the fact that
a liar usually lies for some worldly gain, but the Prophet (SAW) rejected all worldly aspirations, and sufferedtremendously for his message. He rejected the riches and power he was offered to stop promulgating his
message.
Significantly, he was persecuted for his beliefs; boycotted and exiled from his beloved city Makkah;
starved of food; and stoned by children to the point where his blood drenched his legs. His wife passed
away and his beloved companions were tortured and persecuted. The psychological profile of the Prophet
(SAW) was obviously incongruent with a liar, and to maintain that he was dishonest is tantamount to making
bold claims without any evidence.
He was also a stateman and there were battles in which muslims and non-muslims which were defended.
For example in one such battle of Hunayn when his army was overwhelmed with a thousand arrows coming
their way, he still marched forward proclaiming I am the Messenger of Allah and I am not a liar! Does this
befit the profile of a liar who is willing to die for this simple message that is so intuitive to all of us la ilaha
illa Allah (There is none to be worshipped but Allah)?

2. Was he deluded?
Are his teachings the product of a deluded man? He said there is no harming and no reciprocating of harm.He said you will not truly believe until you love for others what you love for yourself. He said if you put
kindness and compassion in something it elevates it, if you remove it, it degrades it. He also said: we must
be just.
He gave an amazing economic theory that has transcended communism, socialism, liberalism, utilitariasm,
all the isms and schisms and the mirages which we chase in the political desert. He transcended all of this
because he said to us all the son of Adam (i.e. every human being) needs is food, shelter and clothing. He
defined the essential limited needs and therefore created the economic theory of distribution. Capitalism has
failed us, because it says there is too many needs and not enough resources. But the food agricultural
organisation has said that there is enough calories to feed three planets. So more than 1430 years ago his
geo-political theory transcends time. So how can we say this man was mad or deluded.
Also a deluded person would use any circumstance in their favour. There was an ecliplse during the time of
the death of his son and his companions commented that this happened because of his sons death.
However, Muhammad (SAW) stated that Allah does not make anything eclipse for anyone even for the death
of a son of a prophet. If he was deluded the he would have said yeah this has really happened because I am
a prophet.
3. Was he both deluded and a liar?It is not possible for an individual to be both a liar and be deluded. Lying is something done with intent
whereas a delusion stems from an individuals belief of an altered reality. The two are diametrically opposed
phenomena. So it is logically impossible, as the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) could not have been convinced
that he was speaking the truth and yet it was based on falsehood and at the same time pretend to be
speaking the truth but yet it being based on a lie!
4. Was he speaking the truth?
If he did not lie and was not deluded it is rational to conclude that he was speaking the truth!

The Bible says so. Specifically in John Chapters 14 and 16 mentions that Muhammad is the last
messenger.
Jesus (as) prayed to Allah for another messenger. John 14:16 And I will pray the Father [God], and
he shall give you another Comforter [messenger] that he may abide with you forever. The key word here
being "another". If the christians say that this means the Holy spirit say to them that "another" in the verse
indicates that Jesus (AS) was referring to other than the Holy Spirit, as they claim that the Holy Spirit was
with Jesus at that time.
Jesus (as) describes the function of the other messenger. John 16:13 He will guide you into all the
truth.
Jesus (as) said Muhammad (saw) will glorify him. John 16:14. He will glorify me. The Qur'an brought
by Muhammad (saw) glorifies Jesus (as). Allah says,[And mention] when the angels said, O Mary, indeed
Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary
distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah].
Chapter 3, Ali Imran
Verse 45
Jesus says Muhammad (saw) will speak of what is revealed to him. John 16:13 He shall not speak
of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] he shall speak. Allah says, Nor does he speak from [his
own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed.
Chapter 53, an-Najm
Verse 3-4
Disclosure of what will come. John16:13, ...and He will disclose to you what is to come. The Qur'an
states: That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal, [O Muhammad] to you.....Chapter 12, Yusuf Verse
102
Teachings will be preserved. John 14:16 that he may abide with you forever meaning Muhammads
original teachings will remain forever until the Day of Judgement.
He is the true prophet.John 14:17 he will be the spirit of the truth meaning Muhammad (saw) will be a
true prophet.

To convert to Islam and become a Muslim, a person needs to pronounce the below testimony with conviction
and understanding its meaning with other Muslims present as witness;Ash hadu anla ilaha illa Allah wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan Rasool AllahI test y t at t ere s no e ty wort y o wors p except A a an Mu amma SAW s t e Messenger o

degree of reason. Something is different when verbally said. It is different when someone thinks of
something and when they say it. When you say something, you really mean it.
3rddegree of reason. Love for Allah (your Lord).Ask, Do you love your mom/husband/wife/children?
Will they not be angry when they ask you to say you love them and you do not say it? Your Lord/Creator
deserves of this more than anyone else in this entire Universe.
4thdegree of reason. Practical - Certification and Witness. When people hear you say it, they can be a
witness that you are a Muslim. When you die, they can bury you as a Muslim and perform funeral prayers
for you. Important for marital procedures, children custody and everything else.
5thdegree of reason. All sins will be cleansed. The Prophet said to a person who had placed a condition
upon the Prophet in accepting Islam that Allah would forgive his sins. Do you not know that accepting Islam
destroys all sins which come before it?
6thdegree of reason. Its not a big deal. Flip the question and say its not a big deal. The sky will not fall
down on you, you will not grow wings and go to heaven. Ask, what do you have to lose?
7thdegree of reason. Danger of not saying. Once you believe and you dont say it, you are risking
yourself. Ask, what if you die one hour after this without saying it, is it worth it? or say Sister, take care ofyourself and please dont die before you say this as your salvation depends on it.

People Believe that Problems are caused by Religion. We always hear people saying, More people die
because of Religion than anything else, but this is not true, all the wars that have been fought so far, forexample, world war two, 23million people died due to it, was that for a religion, or was that for land, money
and power.
And the next question is that, are wars that are said to be for Religion, actually for religion? An example is,
with 9/11, lets say that the 19 did it, did they suddenly read an ayat in the Qur'an and run to do this? No,
because 1.3 billion Muslims read the Qur'an, but you dont see everybody doing this. And if you see these
issues, they always have politics mixed with it.

Keep your eye on the ball. Do not get distracted. Always revert back to the 4 topics.
Make eye contact. Shows you are listening and paying attention.
Positive body language. People only listen to 10% of what you say. 70% is your body language and 20%
is the tone of your voice.
Speak up and speak clearly. Shows you are confident. The Prophet (saw) is known to speak clearly.
Face the person. The Prophet (saw) when speaking to somebody always faces the person completely i.e.
full body facing the person.
Be Direct. When you speak to someone, and they already believe in Allah, and they know about Islam,
sometimes its best to be direct, so you can just ask what they dislike about Islam, and once you know what
the issue is, you can address it. And if they say there is nothing that they dislike, then ask them why they
are not Muslim!
Control the conversation. Whoever is asking the questions is controlling the conversation. Make sure you
are the one asking.
Flip the question. Every time you face a difficult question, you flip the question back. Every coin has two
sides.
When speaking to people of the west, we must use words or examples that they are familiar with, and
not examples from Islamic culture that would only affect a Muslim.
Dont be evasive. When asked a question that you cant answer. If someone gives you a tough question,
and you dont know the answer and you try to swerve around it, it looks like you are just another person
with a crooked religion that cant answer their tough questions. If you dont know the answer, just let them
know if you dont know the answer, and if you know that one of the other brothers knows about the subject
then see if that brother is free. If he isnt free, let them know that you will answer that question in time, butin the meantime answer another question.

Dont keep using God and Lordbecause then you start sounding like a Christian missionary. It is
sometimes effective to use Allah more, and all that needs is a small disclaimer, or info point, where yousay,
- o a r s an, e prop e s came an o em o wors p o , a y e way s e ra c name
of God, its not a different God, if you go the Arabia and to a church you will see that the Christians there are
calling God Allah
- to an Atheist, We believe that we were created by Allah, and by the way, Allah is simply the name we
have for the Creator of the universe
When someone stops to speak, always introduce yourselfand ask them for a name, and remember thename! It makes speaking to them easier, and then you can personalise the message.
Use and instead of but. Its because the word but, as soon as someone hears that it builds a wall
and it sends alarms in the prospect that you are completely denying what they have just said and wiped it
all off. For example, Prospect, Jesus died on the cross and he died for our sins, we fashion it like so, okay
I understand what you are saying, that you believe that Jesus died for our sins, AND ABOUT THIS MATTER,
what I am trying to portray to you is that we believe that Jesus didnt die for our sins because we believe
that he was raised up by Allah and a man resembling Jesus was crucified and then you can show them
the inconsistencies of the crucifixion.
Are you a Muslim? They say no. You say, Why not? then ask Do you know anything about Islam? then
start your 4 topics one by one leading to the Shahadah.

Sheikh Shabir Ally, [continued]..And despite what people say that the son was willing, and this is simply
not the case in the Gospels of Matthew, Marc and Luke, where it says that the son, although willing, he was
not offering himself, however in the Gospel according to John the story is revised so that Jesus actually
offers himself because it looks better. But to save argument, lets say that the son offers himself, it still
doesnt solve the problem, because if the son loves people so much, that he wants to die for their sins,
doesnt the father loves them more than the son? Why doesnt the father come himself? You know I dont
shove my son in the path of a car to save someone else, I go myself and protect my son, so the whole thing
doesnt make sense.
The Christianreplies, I think thats one of the mysteries of the Trinity, but ask yourself, why did Jesus
Christ have to come? The reason why is because you say someone cannot take someone elses sin, but thatdepends on who you sin against, and it is he who took on the punishment of sin, there is the enormity that
we see with Jesus Christ coming down as the God head and taking on sin even though he was the one who
was sinned against
Sheikh Shabir Ally, And that means that if you sin against me, I cannot forgive you until I punish
myself, it doesnt make any sense, because if I wanted to forgive you, I would just forgive you.
The Christian, What you fail to understand is that how we look at the relationship with sin.
Sheikh Shabir Ally, Well when you say your God came down on the cross, it means that God came down
and died, so what you are saying is that God died!
The Christian, Yes
Sheikh Shabir Ally, See its just getting worse everytime you speak, because if the son died, then at least
you have the father still there
The Christian, it was God that died, why do you have a problem with that?
Sheikh Shabir Allybecause if God died, thats blasphemy, because if God died then who wouldanswer peoples prayers and who would look after the world
