DCSSLast Revision date11/30/04

The policy clearly states that itis the responsibility of thefaculty and students to keep upwith and to return books andmaterials on time. The policyalso states that all lost anddamaged books and materialsmust be paid for by the patron.Students are accessed $.05 perday for each overdue book or

item.

Since this is a high school, and somestudents fail to take care of damagedand lost book costs until senior year, thepolicy information needs to be expandedto include the policies for when a studentfails to make payment for a lost ordamaged textbook, library book, ormedia material at the replacement cost. The Dekalb County policy is incompliance. The practice is to refuse to

issue additional books and withholdreport cards (or any document given tothe student or parent) until restitution ismade. However, the system does sendtranscripts within ten (10) days whenrequested by another receiving schoolsystem.http://www.doek12.ga.us/documents/doe/legalservices/160-5-1.14.pdf

Student Records andFines Notification

There is no local school policylocated in the students andfaculty handbook.

A 1974 federal law, the FamilyEducational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), protects the privacy interests of

students in elementary and secondaryschools (and their parents) with regardto certain types of education records.Dekalb county Schools is in compliancewith the law but there is no mention of the confidentiality of student records inthe faculty and student media centerhandbooks. This information should beadded so that students are aware of theirrights.http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/aasl/aaslproftools/positionstatements/aaslpositionstatementconfidentiality.cfmhttp://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/envrnmnt/css/cs300.htm

CollaborationGADOE 10-4-4-.01Updated submitted to all

media specialists 1/7/10

The local school policy forcollaboration and class visitsare explicitly stated in the

faculty handbook. A librarycollaboration form is includedin the faculty handbook and iscompleted by the facultymember and media specialistsduring collaborative planningand serve as documentation of collaboration.

This policy is spelled out expansivelywithin the faculty handbook. I wouldsuggest the reason for collaborative

teaching experience and reference theGeorgia Department of Education policy160-4-4-.01, so that teachers can trulyunderstand the premise of the flexiblyscheduled instructional day of the mediaspecialists.
