K.F.1: Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print. K.F.1.3 : Recognize and name most common upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet. K.F.1.2: Recognize that spoken words are represented in written language by specific sequences of letters. K.F.1.1: Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page. Teacher introduce letter of the day “M”

Introduce song [“Where is M”] to students (teacher sings first and students hum after){using thumbkin song}

Teacher shows students the letter booklet for the day, Letter M.

Teacher asks students to sound out letter M [/m/ says mmmm]…very good!! thumbs up!! Teacher shows students the sample booklet M and guides them along.

Tell students to identify all the letter “m” on the front page of the booklet and circle.

Turn the page, there are objects, people and animals that start with the letter M.

Color the objects-blue, people-brown and animals-green.

Teacher asks students for understanding, if there are no questions.

Pass out letter booklet M to all students

Trace letter M and sound out while tracing.

Activity: Pass out clay to students Using the clay- mold the letter M Now, make a monkey using the clay..

[refer students to display picture using the clay].

Closure Students present their clay monkey

and letter M to the rest of the group.

Provide “Coloring M”worksheet for students to identify all small m and uppercase letter M.

Activity: • mold clay into a capital letter M• mold clay into a lowercase m

Evaluation Record on “alphabet/sound chart” mastery of letter presented.

Assessment Record on comprehension record if student participated in a re-tell of the

story [“+” or “-“]Homework

Go and find objects that begin with the letter M and bring to school.
