Azteco Loco Tells his Tale

By: Morgan Day and Justin Lamb

My name is Azteco Loco. As you may tell I am a little crazy. I lived in Mexico 500 years ago when Spanish explorers came to Mexico. I died that year and was honored on a special day celebrated by the Mexican people.

That day is now known as El Dia de Los Muertos or The Day of The Dead. Sadly when the Spanish arrived I accidentally was killed during a celebration for them. I was then required to haunt the day of the dead from then on.

I watch over the dead now and make sure the Day of the Dead goes well. I also help the people give good celebrations for the dead.

I watch the people make things like sugar skulls, pan de muerto, candied pumpkin, and chocolate coffins and skulls and also atole.

I watch the people clean and repaint graves, dance, they leave flowers on graves, and Marachi bands play. Also they light candles and say prayers for the dead.

I watch the people celebrate the day of the dead with joy and happiness to remember the dead. This is a happy holiday celebrated here from October 31st to November 2nd. The people here are not afraid of death. I will always watch the people from above celebrating El Dia De Los Muertos.
