Day One – Sunday 21 st Pick up Holiday Makers from Central (9.30am) and Strathfield, (10.00am) and head out towards the Southern Highlands, before stopping at Mittagong RSL for a lunch (own expense). After lunch, we travel through to Canberra, to meet other guests. We continue on the Monaro Highway through places like Royalla, Michelago, Colinton, Bredbo, Bunyan and on to Cooma in time for a delicious three course dinner. Day Two – Monday 22 nd To day we head for the coast, we will see the tiny but majestic town of Nimmitabel, before we venture down Brown Mountain stopping at Pipers Lookout, for a breathtaking view of the dairy country in the valley of Bega and Kameruka, enjoying morning tea en-route at Bemboka along side the quiet Columbo Creek. We then meander onto the coastal plains and further down the coast travelling through Bega, Tathra and Merimbula before a tour of Wheeler’s Oyster Farm. We will see beautiful dairy farms as we before the climb back up the mountain to Cooma for our dinner. Day Three – Tuesday 23 rd Today heralds a tour of Cooma’s Historic Lambie Street, and National Trust listed buildings, before visiting the Railway station and taking a nostalgic trip back in time to the 1920's by travelling to Bunyan in a fully restored 1923 Rail Motor arriving back in time for morning tea and a chance to enjoy the movie set atmosphere of the station. Then it’s off to Snowy Hydro Information Centre for an audio/visual of the incredible Snowy Mountains Scheme and how it works. A delicious lunch will then be ready for guests back at the Motel. After lunch we visit the Cooma Correctional Centre Museum, a fascinating insight into the penal systems history, a chance to appreciate our early beginnings and how things have changed. Day Four – Wednesday 24th After our hearty breakfast, we travel through the little town of Berridale, and the rapidly growing town of Jindabyne to Crackenback Cottage on the Alpine Way for morning tea, a chance to see one of the largest mazes in the southern hemisphere. Moving on we visit the ‘Wildbrumby Schnappery’ the only Schnapps distillery in the high country, then we head back to Jindabyne for a short tour, an opportunity to see the Strzelecki Monument, the Irish Memorial dedicated to the Early Snowy Workers. Lunch will be enjoyed beside the lake or on the edge of the Snowy River at Dalgety. (Depending on time and how many cannot find their way out of the maze), before travelling through Dalgety (originally Known as Buckley's Crossing) and a tour of Berridale, (named by a Scotsman after his home town) from here we travel back to Cooma for dinner. Day Five – Thursday 25th – Christmas Day This is a day of leisure, a chance to go to Church, sleep late, share time with new found friends, relax by the pool, a nature walk around our grounds and nearby bushland or read a book. A scrumptious and hearty breakfast, will start your day, but be sure to leave room to be delighted with the full and extravagant Christmas feast with all the trimmings at lunch time. After this extravaganza you may like to simply enjoy the bush land setting, with a cold drink and a chance to sit back and enjoy the comfort of our lounge area, before facing yet another delicious meal to complete your very special, relaxed and fully pampered Christmas with us at the High Country Motel. Day Six – Friday 26th – Boxing Day A hearty breakfast is the order of the day before heading out on the Snowy Mountains Highway for Tumbarumba. Here we will see The Boggy Creek Show. It combines all the skill of horsemanship, mustering, whip cracking, working dogs and sheep tricks with humour, a naughty kelpie and a stubborn mule. There are not many truly traditional family farms left in the High Country. On the way home we stop for a short tour of Adaminaby to see the relocated town, before heading back to Cooma in time for dinner. Day Seven – Saturday 27th We enjoy our last breakfast in the motel restaurant with panoramic view of Cooma before boarding the bus and bidding farewell to the friendly staff. Touring past some national icons in Canberra and stopping for morning tea we then head back home to Sydney, enjoying a picnic lunch along the way, arriving at Central around 4pm.
