What is behind this tender and is it a prolongation of HRH Prince Khaled Al- Faisal wish and vision to develop and transform the Holy City?
Keynote speaker: His Excellency Dr Osama Fadl Al-Bar Mayor Holy City of Makah
10:10 - 10:45 Keynote address Why Saudi Arabia’s huge solar potential may not be enough
The Kingdom has twice the average of solar irradiation than Europe, and solar energy projects are one of the most promising contributors to solve the expected energy demand of 120 GW by 2030.
However this keynote reveals what Schneider Electric sees as a bigger challenge than just generating solar energy - and showcases how their slogan of ‘Make The Most of Your Energy™’ will contribute to the overall solar energy plan in Saudi Arabia.
Schneider Electric is a total solution provider for large photovoltaic power plants - providing complete solutions from panel DC output to grid connection. With complete solutions, customers can significantly reduce total electrical installation costs and project cycle time with a company that has more than 100 years of experience designing electrical distribution and control systems.
Keynote speaker: Jean-Claude Estival Renewable Energy Business Manager Schneider-Electric Projects and Engineering France
10:45 - 11:15 Keynote address Global lessons in renewable energy development
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s largest provider of assistance in the area of energy and environment with more than 100 clean energy projects valued at US$ 1.6 billion in 80 countries around the world.
One successful example has been the UNDP Capacity Development Programme for Renewable Energy in China (undertaken from 1997 to 2007 at a cost US$ 75 million).

12:30 - 13:00 Keynote address China’s solar companies in search of new markets
The Chinese solar panel producers are subjected to anti-subsidy sanctions when selling to the US market. At the same time the feed-in tariff subsidy on solar energy in Europe is gradually phased out. As Chinese solar companies are predominantly export- oriented and the price competition in the Chinese market is harsh, they look for opportunities in new markets.
Recent partnerships and joint ventures between Saudi and Chinese companies in different industry sectors are setting the trend and the solar market is next in line.
Keynote speaker: Jan Holthuis Managing Partner HIL International Lawyers and Advisers
13:00 - 13:30 Keynote address When and why is solar energy production cheaper than fossil fuel generated power?
It is a fact that photovoltaic solar power is cheaper than the fossil fuel generated power - with the non-transparent subsidy mechanisms in the fossil fuel generated power sector leading to an often cited cost myth.
Furthermore, the production of renewable energy is cheaper, cleaner, and more sustainable and creates more jobs than conventional power generation. In conclusion, theeconomicreturnsandfinancialcostsforthe national economy are largely in favor of solar generated power.
This keynote asks: •Why is solar produced power cheaper than conventionallyproducedpower? •Whatlossesdoesthenationaleconomyincur by delaying the replacement of conventional energy generating power plants with solar powerplants? •What needs to be done to turn everlasting talksintorealsolarpowergeneratingplants?
