Asian Contemporary Art

Discovering and experiencing different cultures have made a huge impact on the way we perceive the world and the way we live. In Asia and beyond where art and culture merge into a contemporary setting has inspired Dayang’s Art to interlink these discoveries into an evocative journal recalling travel, history and the dynamic changes of a new Asia.

At this side of the world, the art world is at its peak of a new discovery of technique, motives and expression. It is an outburst of pure expression that has never been articulated before. Artists exchanging ideas and inspirations with foreign artists culminate in a modern way of thinking where geographical and cultural boundaries are sometimes blurred. In China, the artists seek for peace and truth in their work. The struggle for their own identity in the midst of a crowd, which is more concerned on a materialistic goal and fame, have made some of the artists more determined in conveying their ideology and expression. Respectively, creativity is at its climax in China. Dayang’s Art are pleased to present these artists whose works are manifestations of the present Asia.

Wang Xuejun

Wang Xuejun is seeking harmony in all his works. His series in Sparkling China portrays his observation of today’s society. He subtly uses historical flora and fauna from the Song dynasty in all his canvases. They are set up as the background to symbolize the strong perseverance of history in these chaotic and merciless era of today.

Wang is also longing for quality of tranquility in his everyday life. The enjoyment that he gets from old classical Chinese paintings have inspired him to combine these qualities into his own contemporary works. In his series of ‘Never Glow Old’, man and woman take pictures of themselves hoping that their complexion remains the same as time passes by. The title therefore acts as a symbol of the never-fading glow on their faces. His exuberant use of different colors are simultaneously gripping and pleasant.

Wang Xuejun

Wu Jun

Wu Jun is one of the favorites artists among our Dutch collectors. He exhibits his meditation of art and trace of practice in his works. The “N” series express a subtle feeling of ‘escaping’ in this modern world. Figures of crowds’ heads in his ‘N’ series are associated with the ‘N’ of Einstein’s infinity. Chaos and turmoil of emotions are expressed in an abstract form. When things are in abstract form, purity emerges. Purity is, to Wu Jun, the basic trait of a human character.

His human-sized ‘Warriors’ are his interpretation of the miracles of mankind. The figures are covered in today’s newspaper which acts a symbol of the present digitalized network and media. Simultaneously, he manifests the complex information of history and the uncertainty of the future.

Zhao Ling

Zhao Ling is a young woman with a deep respect towards culture and tradition. Her works mainly feature Buddha figures in different feminine forms. She has 2 different styles: her Buddha could be in dark colors, as to conjure the feelings of confusion and struggle in life and her Buddha could be in bright colors as to invoke feelings of freedom, elegance and joy.

She integrates the essence of Eastern art with Western artists’ pursuit for simple lines and shapes to create her own unique style. Her lines are loose yet determined. She is an excellent example of a modern Chinese woman artist expressing her quandary between the importance of tradition and the modern life on canvases. Her paintings give us pleasure and feelings of serenity.

Chu Weiqing

Chu Wei-Qing’s artworks have expressed the mystery and romance of the Bohemian Era. Her surrealistic style is a message of how a young modern Chinese woman perceives the world. The modern world is abundant with materialistic ornaments. Her use of black and white are symbols of the emptiness in the shimmering world. She feels that the new generation is alluded with beautiful, glittering and colorful ornaments that are only things that do not soothe the heart. The heart is left unattended by all the materials attention that symbolically it was left abundant, thus alone.

She tries to convey the disparity of the heart by using black and white in her paintings. At the same time, she also tries to bring balance back in her paintings by using the 2 colors similar to Yin and Yang in Taoism. Her paintings bring across a mysterious message in a subtle way.

• 2006 – FACE VALUE in Delft

An exhibition on Chinese Contemporary Art was held in World Art Gallery in Delft. Featuring 5 Chinese Contemporary Artists in paintings. We had the honor of Ms Jeannette ten Kate, who has an authority on fine arts, to give a presentation on the coming of Chinese Contemporary Art to our guest.

•2007 – CHINESE WALLS in Amsterdam

An exhibition on Chinese Contemporary Art was held in Walls Gallery in Amsterdam. Featuring 10 Chinese Contemporary Artists in paintings, ceramics and photographs.
