The promise : - Reuse my old T-Scanner 0.5°A etalon - Benefit of ION housing with temperature regulation - Keep the 30mm Clear Aperture of my T-Scanner

The unbelievable : It cost 900$. The result is astonished : state of the art Solar filter !

Iris reduction – A must have

Help to get F30 ratio at lower focal Change the bandwidh of the Daystar filter in a second ! If full aperture at F20 the Daystar 0.5A is acting as a 0.8A! The result : proms a even greater !

Page 10: DayStar T Scanner upgrade to ION housing - Astromist · Daystar filter With SC thread rear plate SC Female to M48 male adapter William Optics Diagonal, with nose removed 2’’ x0.7

Taka x1.6 extender

The issue : No ring ! With the weight of the bino head, it rotates and damages the diagonal nose!

The solution: Drill a few the nose of the diagonal so one screw can fit inside. It rocks! : no more move at all.

Eyepiece Usual Setup – Full Aperture

F5 refractor + x1.6 Taka + x4 powermate = F32

x1.6 Taka is optional with Iris reduction The short Televue SCT->2’ could be replaced by a long one.

Page 16: DayStar T Scanner upgrade to ION housing - Astromist · Daystar filter With SC thread rear plate SC Female to M48 male adapter William Optics Diagonal, with nose removed 2’’ x0.7

Bino setup – MarkIV – Standard setup x4 = F20 – Mark IV – 24mm or 40mm

x1.6 + Diagonal + x4 = F32 – Mark IV – Best with 40mm

x1.6 + x4 + x0.7 = F23 – MarkV – 40mm or 24mm

x4 barlow + x0.7 = F14 – MarkV – 24mm or 40mm

-Full disk with 40mm & 24mm just inside FOV. -Proms visible arround. Some are faint/dimmed due to -Spicule visible -Fine Surface details -Filter uniformity limitations. - Soft zone at 80% of FOV.

-Full aperture : -Great view of proms all arround

-Reduced Iris : -Better surface details -Most of the proms still visible. -Spicule better visible -- Soft zone at 80% of FOV.

- Soft zone at 70% of FOV. Full disk with double x0.7 smaller enough to be inside the clear zone. - Fine details (Proms+surface) -Eyepiece relief shorter (16mm?) : More confortable ! -Focus with the 3 powerswitch position!

-Better view -More stable/compact setup -Focus ok -Soft zone area reduced
