Storage Optimization Feature (SOF)
Deep compression for lower data storage costs
Compression gives you the ability to transparently compress data on disk in
order to decrease disk space and storage infrastructure requirements. Since
disk storage systems are often the most expensive components of a database
solution, even a small reduction in the storage subsystem can result in
substantial cost savings for the entire database solution.
For additional information on compression go to:
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/data/db2/linux-unix-windows/storage-
compression.html
Performance Optimization Feature (POF)
DB2 Performance Optimization Feature gives customers the insight and
ability to optimize workload execution. This feature can save money
and lower risks by helping customers do more work with existing
hardware, ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met or
exceeded and increase DBA productivity.
The Performance Optimization Feature includes two capabilities: DB2
Workload Manager and Optim Performance Manager.
For more information go to:

windows/performance-optimization.html
Optim Tools
Database Administrator & Development Studio
Optim Database Administrator helps organizations manage databases
and database changes without disruption. It improves productivity and
reduces application outages for complex structural changes to streamline
change-in-place and database migration scenarios.
Optim Development Studio provides an integrated database
development environment for Oracle, DB2, and Informix. ODS improves
development productivity up to 50% for developing and testing SQL and
XQuery queries, stored procedures, Web services, and Java data access
layers.

Federation InfoSphere Federation Server (IFS) creates a consolidated view of your data
to support key business processes and decisions. Federation allows you
to access and integrate diverse data and content sources as if they were
a single resource - regardless of where the information resides.
The Federation capability being included with AESE is limited to
combining data from Oracle or Informix with DB2 for LUW.
If you are already using IFS to combine other disparate sources such as
SQL Server, Sybase and DB2 into a single virtual view, or need this
capability, you must purchase the IFS software separately.

Security: Label-Based Access Control For the ultimate data access control, the Advanced Access Control
feature uses Label Based Access Control (LBAC) to let you decide
exactly who has write access and who has read access to individual rows
and individual columns in any given table.
Once the LBAC rules have been defined, data access control is managed
by DB2 and is completely transparent to the user. For example, a user
accessing a table will only see the rows they are authorized to see and
DB2 will act as if any unauthorized rows don't exist.

Purchasing IBM Software
Quick PVU Explanation
•A PVU is a unit of measure used to differentiate licensing of software on
distributed processor technologies.
•A PVU is defined by Processor Vendor, Brand, Type and Model Number.
•IBM defines a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each
processor core on a chip (socket).
•Each software product has a unique price per PVU.
For more information and a current PVU Table:
http://www-
01.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
Intel Processor PVU Example
Sub-capacity licensing
The Licensee can deploy the Program using either Full Capacity licensing or
Virtualization Capacity (Sub-Capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage
Sub-Capacity Licensing terms.
If using Full Capacity licensing, the Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient
to cover all activated processor cores in the physical hardware environment made
available to or managed by the Program, except for those servers from which the
Program has been permanently removed.
If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, the Licensee must obtain entitlements
sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the
Program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules.
IBM Passport Advantage
Passport Advantage is comprehensive IBM offering that covers software
license acquisition including Fixed Term Licenses and Software
Subscription and Support product upgrades and technical support under
a single, common set of agreements, processes and tools.

How Do You Get AESE?
Existing DB2 ESE customers have 2 choices:
1. Purchase new licenses of AESE by PVU.
- or -
2. Purchase upgrade licenses by PVU that factor in the
products you already own.
New Purchase DB2 Pricing and Part Numbers
For *new* license purchases, based on the Processor Value Unit
(PVU) model
DB2 ESE = D55IULL, $417
DB2 AESE = D0GB4LL, $464
$464 - $417 = $47 per PVU price difference
Trade up Parts – also sold by PVU
If you already own DB2 Enterprise Server Edition, Storage
Optimization and/or Performance Optimization the cost
is less to factor in your existing license investment.

DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition
Timing – Patience Pays
How does Subscription and Support Work?
IBM assesses an annual fee due on the anniversary
of the original purchase
S&S runs about 20% of the purchase price
Failure to maintain your S&S means you cannot upgrade or use the PMR system.
S&S Example 1: ESE to AESE Kim’s Kites
Kim’s Kites owns 200 PVU’s of DB2 Enterprise Server Edition and
wants to move to DB2 Advanced ESE.
Kim’s Kites bought their 200 PVU’s of DB2 ESE in December of
2010. They paid $83 per PVU for S&S on their license anniversary
date in December of 2011, a total of $16,600.
If they upgrade TODAY to AESE, the cost is $218 per PVU, or
$43,600.
What happens to the S&S they’ve paid for?
S&S Example 1: ESE to AESE Kim’s Kites
S&S at $83/per PVU; 200 PVU’s = $16,600.00
S&S is paid in advance. The prepaid amount per month is $1,383.33.
The AESE upgrade is $218/per PVU; 200 PVU’s = $43,600.00
If Kim’s Kites buys the upgrade licenses in April they will forfeit 8
months of prepaid S&S ($1,383.33 X 8 = $11,066.67). Their new
S&S anniversary date will be in April of 2013.
Example 5: ESE+SOF+POF to AESE Blaire’s Bears
Blaire’s Bears has both SOF and POF and owns 600 PVU’s of DB2
Enterprise Server Edition, 600 PVU’s of Compression/ Storage
Optimization Feature (SOF) and 600 PVU’s of Performance
Optimization Feature (POF).
P/N’s: DB2 ESE: Trans: D55IULL S&S: E020CLL
AESE Trade Up from ESE&SOF&POF: D0GKKLL
…$153 per PVU
Blaire’s Bears will purchase 600 PVU of DB2 AESE trade up part
from DB2 ESE&SOF&POF (D0GKKLL). They will stop paying for the
600 PVU’s of SOF and POF and will have full entitlement under their
DB2 AESE license.
Example 5: ESE+SOF+POF to AESE Blaire’s Bears
What if…
Blaire’s Bears purchased:
200 PVU’s of ESE in June, 2007
400 PVU’s of ESE in March, 2010
600 PVU’s of Storage Optimization Feature in July, 2010
600 PVU’s of Performance Optimization Feature in May, 2011
