System Refresh with DB independent Method using sapinst.

Source system – PD1IX100

System – PD1 (ABAP + JAVA)

IP address – 10.0.1.19

Target system – UD1IX100

System – UD1 (ABAP + JAVA)

IP address – 10.0.1.11

Step 1 :

a)  Login to putty as root and start the vncserver.

Hit enter

b)  Login to VNC viewer from the laptop.

Press ok (Make sure the IP address and hostname are mapped in the host file of the local

laptop)

 Password2010 (password for root user)

Click ok

Logged on to the source system for export using sapinst.

Launch sapinst from the below mentioned path.

At the unix level create (PD1_export) a folder to hold the backup of 

DB export

Java export

Login as pd1adm as shutdown SAP. (use the stopsap r3 command)

Once SAP is shutdown click ok the below screen.

Export completed successfully.

Once the export is complete we are done with source system and source system SAP application

can be started.

To move the backup /PD1_export to the target.

Various options available.

We will use the mount option.

To mount the backup location below are steps.

Login to putty on PD1 server as root which is PD1IX100 – 10.0.1.19.

Type yast

The following screen will appear.

Press enter

Click next (ALT+N)

The above step will share /PD1_export to be mounted to any server which is in the same

network.

Login to Target – UD1 – UD1IX100 – 10.0.1.11

Login as root

Create an empty folder under “/” with same name (PD1_export) 

Mount the /PD1_export from source to target.

Go to /PD1_export folder on the target and validate the content.

Make sure SAP system is available on target If there is an SAP application uninstall the sap

application using sapinst.

After the uninstall (CI & DB) are deleted and oracle software & client software are intact.

Now you can run sapinst and start the installation on target.

From the below location on UD1IX100 start the sapinst as root.

Double check on the source ddic & j2ee_admin password on the source system before.

Usually if its an ABAP+JAVA system it takes long time to start the java processes so sapinst errors

out.

To fix the error.

Stop the sapisnt for now and restart SAP manually and re-run sapinst.

When the SAP application is stopped

Start SAP application. (startsap all)

Now re-run sapinst again

Login as root and go to the media location for sapinst.
