Illinois Park Law Enforcement Association 2018 Winter Training De-Escalation and Smarter Policing This course meets the following Illinois State Mandate(s): (8 hour) Civil Rights; Constitutional and Proper Use of Law Enforcement Authority; Procedural Justice Updates; Use of Force; Cultural Competency; Human Rights Nothing is as important to government services as the relationship between law enforcement and the public that is served. Recent inflamatory actions and news stories have had a negative impact on the perception of law enforcement. Agencies and individual employees must understand their role and that every action and statement made reflects on the profession as a whole. Appropriate for officers from all ranks, this training will focus not only on individual employee attitudes and beliefs, but also organizational concepts that either enhance trust or perpetuate a lack of trust within the communities served. The concept and foundations of Blue Courage and how they apply to law enforcement authority Service, justice, legitimacy, and fundamental fairness as they apply to the nobility of policing Resilience and techniques for enhancing peak performance Respect in police work Civil and human rights De-escalation techniques Policing using influence and control Concepts of procedural justice Cultural competancy James Pate Philip State Park | 2050 W.
