304.1. Main parts of an essayAn essay has three main parts: an introduction, a body and a conclusion.The introductory paragraph attracts the reader's attention and informs the

reader what your main topic of discussion will be. An introductory paragraphhas two part:

a/ Several general sentences that give background information on yoursubject and gradually lead your reader into your specific topic.

bl A thesis statement that states the subdivisions (topic of each paragraph).Itmay also indicate your method of development.

The body of an essay discusses your subdivided topics, one be one. Itcontains as many paragraphs as necessary to explain the controlling ideas in thethesis statement.

The concluding paragraph reminds your reader of what you have said.Remember to use a "conclusion" transition signal. Your concluding paragraphhas a summary of the main ideas or a restatement of the thesis in different wordsand your final comment on the topic.
