Cong ratulations on completing your undergraduate studies at The University of Western Australia . This is

a momentous step towards an exciting career and the opportunity to apply the many skills you have

developed in your studies .

1 would like to take this opportunity to advise you of the postgraduate research opportunities available toyou at UWA. Postgraduate research provides students with transferable skills which help them gainpromotion within organisations . Many high-achieving candidates choose to undertake a research degreebecause they have a drive to progress as far as they can in their chosen field . The continued challengeand enjoyment of independent research are, for many, rewards in themselves.

Postgraduates from all areas experience a high rate of success in employment because the generic ortransferable skills required for success in a postgraduate research degree are the same skills in highdemand by employers . Successful completion of a research degree indicates to a prospective employerthat you have excellent project and personal management skills , you can think independently and ,crucially , solve problems and communicate effectively . For many graduates , the decision to undertakefurther study is made after several years in the workplace , so keep this in mind .

For Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents and for New Zealand Citizens , the Research TrainingScheme RTS) exempts candidates undertaking research Doctorates and Masters degrees from payingtuition fees . For research Doctorates the duration of study is up to four years full time equivalent and forresearch Masters , up to two years full time equivalent. Each year scholarship applications fall due in lateOctober . More information is available at http ://www.postgraduate .uwa .edu .au/home/prospective/fees

Tuition fees are applicable to International students undertaking postgraduate research; however , thereare a number of scholarships available to you . These include the International Postgraduate ResearchScholarships IPRS) and the Scholarships for International Research Fees SIRFs) . Each yearscholarship applications fall due in late August. More information is available at

http ://www .scholarships .uwa .edu.au/home/postgrad/internationalIf you would like more information about research degrees at UWA , please contact our GraduateResearch School at [email protected] .edu .au or 61 8 6488 2807 .
