Quote for the Week:

Dear Parents,

Our school is committed to building a safe and happy environment for

students, staff, parents and the broader community. We encourage parents and carers to advocate strongly on their child’s

behalf and, as part of this, expect them to raise concerns about their child.

Sometimes these concerns may relate to the way a child may have been treated by another student at this school. It is natural

for parents and carers to feel protective of their children. However you must not raise any concerns you have about the

behaviour of another child directly with that child (or his or her parents while they are at school) but should instead report your

concerns to the principal or a member of the executive team.

Your concerns will be taken seriously and responded to promptly.

If a parent, carer or other community member raises their concerns directly with a child (or their parents while they are at

school) this may result in the access that person has to the school site being restricted or withdrawn. We greatly value the

contribution parents, carers and other community members make to the school community and do not wish to take any action

that impacts on their participation in school activities.

Please let us know if you have concerns about the behaviour of another person’s child while they are at school or on school

related activities. Raising your concerns directly with the child (or his or her parents while they are at school) could result in

your access to the school site being restricted or withdrawn.

(The content above has been compiled by DoE Legal Services for distribution in a school’s

newsletter.)

Please do not hesitate to contact the school at any time with concerns or issues about

student behaviour. We take all communication seriously and will do our utmost to work

towards a successful resolution.

Many thanks for your understanding and support,

Sue Mackay

DEPUTY’S REPORT

Classroom News KM had a wonderful learning experience on Friday with our new Spheros. The students were very excited and quick to learn how to program their Spheros to change directions, colour and speed. They built ramps and tunnels for the Spheros and worked well in teams to solve problems and learn how to use them.

3/4TS have also had their introductory lesson on Spheros

Over the last 5 weeks Southern

Cross University students have

participated in our SHAPE program

where the SCU students observe

lessons to build their knowledge

and skills to become quality

teachers in the classroom and how

daily routines are organised in the

whole school environment to direct

learning, keep students safe and

organise resources. Our teachers have many talents and know

their students and how they learn and this program allows our

new teachers to prepare for their future in the classroom.

Congratulations to Summer W who has received a $500 grant

for NSW PSSA Swimming Championships. The Local Sporting

Champions program is an Australian Government initiative

which provides funding assistance to young sportsmen and

women who are participating in state, national or international

sporting competition. The grant can contribute towards the

cost of travel, accommodation, equipment and or uniforms for

their nominated sporting competition.

The Kororo girls basketball

team had their final round in

the PSSA knockouts on

Thursday against a very tall and

strong Lismore team. They

played an amazing game and

will know represent the North

Coast in Bathurst on 11th

September.

Team members include: Lily B, Bella H, Mekayla W, Kiyarna P,

Charlotte C, Charli M, Joey K and Katrina R. Thank you to Mrs

Martyn for coaching the girls and parents who have assisted

along the way. Fantastic effort everyone!

BOOK PARADE

Last week’s Book Parade was exciting and fun. The students and staff had a wonderful time dressing up, using their imagination, sharing their favourite book and celebrating Book Week together. Thank you to all the parents, family and friends who helped students with costumes and joined us to celebrate.

Kindergarten was very lucky to have a visit from a 'real' author! David Dodd, author of the very funny children's book titled Sid Nottley: Loser or Legend? came to read the first chapter of his book and to tell them a little about the future books he has planned. It was particularly special for some of the parents and teachers of the Kindergarten students as they remembered being taught at Kororo Public School by Mr Dodd and recognised a few of the 'characters' in the novel including the lovely 'ice-pack fairies', (the office ladies) who were also able to join us during the reading, and are now forever immortalised in print!!!

Look out for the book in book stores and in the school library, it is a really great read.

Congratulations to Martha and Patrick in 2LB for winning major prizes in the Book Warehouse 91 Storeys Tree Competition. They both received a copy of the book and a drink bottle. A copy of their art work has been sent to Andy Griffith. Congratulations to 2LB for winning a collection of books for their classroom written by Andy Griffiths and illustrated by Terry Dent. 2LB students enjoyed using their imaginations and colour to designed their tree houses for the competition.

Thank you to Miss O’Shea and staff for

organising such a fun educational

experience. What a great way of

promoting reading.
