Thursday 1st November 2018
Dear Parents/Caregivers
The NZEI has advised the Forrest Hill School Board of Trustees that the Principal and teachers at our school may be taking possible strike action on Monday the 12th November from 2018.The union is required to give at least three calendar days’ notice of a strike. The Board are giving our parents and caregivers as much notice as possible of the decision to close the school if the proposed strike happens. The Board of Trustees can’t provide teaching for students during the upcoming strike. The Board has carefully considered the availability of teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can’t provide the normal teaching services during the strike so the school will officially be closed for instruction during the above times. Accordingly, it’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children during the period of the strike as no supervision can be provided.I know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern. Thank you for your understanding. Please contact Mel Cadman if you have any queries relating to this decision. Yours sincerelyMel CadmanChair Board of Trustees
Westlake Share Lunch
This week students from the Westlake Buddy programmes for maths and reading meet together for a shared lunch. This was to celebrate an amazing year, meeting each week to work together. This is a mutually beneficial programme to supplement our existing maths and literacy programmes. It also offers our younger students the opportunity to develop relationships with older role models. Watching these relationships between the students and schools develop has been a real honour. Thank you to all parents for supporting both initiatives this year.
Class Placements 2019
I know some of you are asking about classes for 2019, and I ask that if you have anything you would like to be taken into account such as students your child is better kept with or separated from, that we may not know, please email me at [email protected]. Please do not request specific teachers as we are currently organising year group teams. I ask that you trust the current teacher and their team to make the best placement for your child, based on their professional experience.

I have a beautiful glossy cape that I am going to wear for Halloween. My cape came from a shop and has brooms and pumpkins that are golden on it. I am going to be a Vampire and say “Trick or Treat!”Elizabeth Stirling
I made Mr Marwick walk the plank because I am a pirate. He fell in the water and he swam away to an island. I sailed the pirate ship to my home.Emma-Marie
At discovery time I went to the Post Office and wrote a letter to Santa. In my letter I asked him for a Play Station. I put it in an envelope and I posted it in the mailbox.Dimath Koote Wijeweera
