Dear Parishioners,

As many of you are aware, the chapel floor is in need of repair. I delayed the repairsbecause (1) I was assured by contractors and inspectors the floor was not in danger ofcollapse; (2) I made the repairs part of last year's Renew and Rebuild Campaign in hope ofraising funds; (3) without knowing the money that may or may not become available fromthe campaign, I couldn't determine exactly what we could afford to do. Finally, we onlyhave a small window of opportunity every year during which we can close the chapel to dothe work. That window is now.

That stated, in relation to our parish goal, we didn't raise enough money through theRenew and Rebuild Campaign. However, a very generous anonymous parishioner, anothergenerous couple and approximately $25,000 of parish funds have made it possible to redothe entire chapel floor. I have listed below the timetable. I apologize for the late notice butthis was a very involved process with many moving parts. Everything is just gettingfinalized. The total cost is in the area of, but below, $90,000.

Starting the weekend of February 3rd, all weekend Masses will be at St Peter's School.Daily Masses will be held at Our Lady of the Way Chapel, at the Culinary Institute ofAmerica (CIA), starting Tuesday, January 30th. During the repair of the chapel floor, therewill be no Monday night Purgatorial Masses. During this period, funeral masses will beheld at Regina Coeli Parish. Father Michael Morris, Pastor of Regina Coeli Parish, hasbeen generous enough to permit us to use their parish church during our floor restoration. Thank you for your understanding. Hopefully, we can celebrate Easter on a beautifulnew chapel floor.

God bless,Father Patrick Curley

A Reading from the Book of Jonah

The word of the LORD came to Jonah, saying: “Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and

announce to it the message that I will tell you.” So Jonah made ready and went to Nineveh,

according to the LORD’S bidding. Now Nineveh was an enormously large city; it took

three days to go through it. Jonah began his journey through the city, and had gone but a

single day’s walk announcing, “Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed,” when the

people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small,

put on sackcloth. When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way, he

repented of the evil that he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out.

Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

A Reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians

I tell you, brothers and sisters, the time is running out. From now on, let those havingwives act as not having them, those weeping as not weeping, those rejoicing as notrejoicing, those buying as not owning, those using the world as not using it fully.For the world in its present form is passing away.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint MarkPeople: Glory to you, O Lord.

After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God:

“This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand.

Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

As he passed by the Sea of Galilee,

he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea;

they were fishermen.

Jesus said to them,

“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Then they abandoned their nets and followed him.

He walked along a little farther

and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.

They too were in a boat mending their nets.

Then he called them.

So they left their father Zebedee in the boat

along with the hired men and followed him. Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

The Responsorial: Teach me your ways, O Lord. (PS 25: 4-5, 6-7, 8-9)

Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father;

through Him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation He came down

from heaven,At the words that follow, up to and including and became Man, all bow

and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the

Virgin Mary and became Man.

For our sake He was crucified under Pontius

Pilate,

He suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living

and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of

Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

Who with the Father and the Son is adored and

glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic

Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the

dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

We Gather Together

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;

He chastens and hastens His will to make known.

The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.

Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,

Whose kingdom calls all to the love which endures.

So from the beginning the fight we were winning;

You, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Yours!

We all do extol You, Our Leader triumphant,

And pray that You still our Defender will be.

Let Your congregation escape tribulation;

Your Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

Entrance

Here I am Lord

I, the Lord of sea and sky,I have heard My people cry.All who dwell in dark and sin,My hand will save.I who made the stars of night,I will make their darkness bright.Who will bear My light to them?Whom shall I send?

RefrainHere I am Lord, Is it I Lord?I have heard You calling in the night.I will go Lord, if You lead me.I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,I have born my peoples pain.I have wept for love of them, They turn away.I will break their hearts of stone,Give them hearts for love alone.I will speak My word to them,Whom shall I send?

Refrain

Offertory

Immaculate Mary

Immaculate Mary, thy praises we sing;

Who reignest in splendor with Jesus our King.

Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

In heaven, the blessed thy glory proclaim;

On earth we, thy children, invoke thy fair name.

Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

We pray for God's glory; may His kingdom come;

We pray for His vicar, our father, and Rome.

Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

We pray for our Mother, the Church upon earth,

And bless, dearest Lady, the land of our birth.

Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

Next Sunday’s GospelThe text of next Sunday’s Gospel is provided here, so that,

during the week, we can think and pray about it, and be ready

to receive it into our minds and hearts when it is proclaimed at mass.

Mark 1: 21-28

Then they came to Capernaum, and on the sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. The people were astonished at his teaching,

for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out,

"What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the Holy One of God!"

Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet! Come out of him!" The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him.

All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they

obey him." His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

St. Peter’s Parish Book ClubThe St. Peter’s Parish Book Club will meet early in 2018 at St. Peter’s School. The next book is

“Mystery of the Magi: The Quest to Identify the Three Wise Men” by Dwight Longenecker.

Book DescriptionModern biblical scholars tend to dismiss the Christmas story of the “wise men from the East” aspious legend. Matthew’s gospel offers few details, but imaginative Christians filled out the story

early on, giving us the three kings guided by a magical star who join the adoring shepherds in everyChristmas crèche. For many scholars, then, there is no reason to take the gospel story seriously.

Dwight Longenecker makes a powerful case that the visit of the Magi to Bethlehem really happened.

Annunciation Novena I greet you, Ever-blessed Virgin, Mother of God, Throne of Grace, miracle of Almighty Power! I greet you, Sanctuary

of the Most Holy Trinity and Queen of the Universe, Mother of Mercy and refuge of sinners! Most loving Mother,attracted by your beauty and sweetness, and by your tender compassion, I confidently turn to you, miserable as I am,

and beg of you to obtain for me from your dear Son the favor I request in this novena: (mention your request).

Obtain for me also, Queen of heaven, the most lively contrition for my many sins and the grace to imitate closelythose virtues which you practiced so faithfully, especially humility, purity and obedience. Above all, I beg you to be my Mother and Protectress, to receive me into the number of your devoted children, and to guide me from

your high throne of glory. Do not reject my petitions, Mother of Mercy! Have pity on me, and do not abandon me during life or at the moment of my death. Amen.
